Chemical modification of barite for improving the performance of weighting materials for water-based drilling fluids

With increasing drilling depth and large dosage of weighting materials,drilling fluids with high solid content are characterized by poor stability,high viscosity,large water loss,and thick mud cake,easier leading to reservoir damage and wellbore *** this paper,micronized barite(MB)was modified(mMB)by grafting with hydrophilic polymer onto the surface through the free radical polymerization to displace conventional API barite *** suspension stability of water-based drilling fluids(WBDFs)weighted with API barite:mMB=2:1.in 600 g was significantly enhanced compared with that with API barite/WBDFs,exhibiting the static sag factor within 0.54 and the whole stability index of *** viscosity and yield point reached the minimum,with a reduction of more than 40%compared with API barite only at the same *** multi-stage filling and dense accumulation of weighting materials and clays,filtration loss was decreased,mud cake quality was improved,and simultaneously it had great reservoir protection performance,and the permeability recovery rate reached 87%.In addition,it also effectively improved the lubricity of *** sticking coefficient of mud cake was reduced by 53.4%,and the friction coefficient was ***,mMB can serve as a versatile additive to control the density,rheology,filtration,and stability of WBDFs weighted with API barite,thus regulating comprehensive performance and achieving reservoir protection *** work opened up a new path for the productive drilling of extremely deep and intricate wells by providing an efficient method for managing the performance of high-density WBDFs.

Sedimentary environment shift and organic matter enrichment mechanism in response to volcanic ash influence: A case study of the Permian Lucaogou Formation, Santanghu Basin,NW China

The second member of the Lucaogou Formation （P2l2） in the Tiaohu and Malang Sags of the Santanghu Basin （study area） underwent periodic volcanic activity and frequent lithological *** study comprehensively analyzed the organic geochemistry,mineral composition,organic matter （OM） types,volcanic cycle,and palaeoenvironment of shale in the study *** such as total organic carbon （TOC）,rock pyrolysis （Rock-Eval）,organic petrology,scanning electron microscopy （SEM） with energydispersive spectrum （EDS） analysis,X-ray diffraction （XRD）,trace elements,and saturated hydrocarbon gas chromatography and mass spectrometry （GC-MS） were *** findings suggest that limited terrigenous input during the sedimentary period of the P2l2led to the deposition of a distinctive mixture of volcanic ash （felsic） and carbonate （dolomite and calcite）,with a low average clay mineral content of 6%.The P2l2shale emerged as a high-quality source rock,predominantly composed of type I and II kerogens,with moderate OM *** deposition environment was characterized by hot and arid conditions,high salinity,and intensive reducibility,which was favorable for algae development and conducive to OM ***,two lamalginite types,labeled as lamalginite“A”and lamalginite“B,”were ***“B”-rich shales were deposited in a hotter and drier climate compared to lamalginite“A”-rich ***“B”-rich shale inexhibited high levels of C28regular sterane and β-carotenes,distinguishing it from lamalginite“A”-rich shale.A comprehensive analysis involving organic petrology,SEM,sedimentary environment,and biomarker characteristics suggests that lamalginite“B”may be a salt-tolerant green alga,while lamalginite“A”may be a ***,an OM enrichment model for the P2l2shale was established.

Axial-torsional nonlinear vibration of bottom hole assembly in the air drilling technology

The safety and efficiency of drilling engineering are greatly impeded by destructive vibrations of drill string in air drilling,such as stick-slip,bit-bounce and their coupled *** avoid or suppress these vibrations improving the stability of drilling operations,revealing the occurrence mechanisms of abovementioned harmful vibrations are indispensable by investigating dynamics characteristics of drill string *** this paper,an axial-torsional coupled dynamics model that can capture the motion behaviors of bottom hole assembly(BHA)is established adopting the lumped parameter ***,a rate of penetration(ROP)model appropriating for air drilling is obtained firstly by linear fitting ***,a novel discontinuous support model is established to describe the bitformation ***,BHA dynamics are discussed using numerical simulations under different vibration scenarios:normal operation;stick-slip;bit-bounce;bit-bounce and stick-slip ***,in two drilling modes:the continuous and intermittent drilling,the vibration mitigation strategies and dynamics sensibility study of BHA are carried out based on the parametric *** results show that increasing torsional stiffness of drill-pipes,appropriately adjusting rotation speed of top driven system and dynamic weight on bit(WOB)are deemed as an effective strategy suppressing or eliminating stick-slip and bit-bounce vibrations of *** that the rotation speed of top driven system and dynamic WOB are 5 rad/s and 3.5 kN,***,the constructed probability maps allow to driller to choose reasonable mechanical parameters,thereby realizing smooth drilling operation in the air drilling.

Further study on the genesis of lamellar calcite veins in lacustrine black shale--A case study of Paleogene in Dongying Depression, China

Lamellar calcite veins are prevalent in carbonate-rich,lacustrine dark *** formation mechanisms of these veins have been extensively debated,focusing on factors such as timing,depth,material source,and driving *** paper examines dark lacustrine shale lamellar calcite veins in the Paleogene strata of Dongying Depression,using various analytical techniques:petrography,isotope geochemistry,cathodoluminescence,inclusion thermometry,and electron probe *** distinct types of calcite veins have been identified:granular calcite veins and sparry calcite *** two types differ significantly in color,grain structure,morphology,and *** further investigation,it was observed that vein generation occurred from the shallow burial period to the maturation of organic matter,with a transition from granular calcite veins to sparry calcite *** granular calcite veins exhibit characteristics associated with the shallow burial period,including plastically deformed laminae and veins,the development of strawberry pyrite,the absence of oil and gas,weak fractionation in oxygen isotopes,and their contact relationship with sparry calcite *** granular calcite veins were likely influenced by the reduction of sulfate *** the other hand,sparry calcite veins with fibrous grains are antitaxial and closely linked to the evolution and maturation of organic *** contain oil and gas inclusions and show a distribution range of homogenization temperature between 90℃ and 1.0℃ and strong fractionation in oxygen isotopes,indicating formation during the hydrocarbon expulsion *** carbon isotope analysis of the surrounding rocks and veins suggests that the material for vein formation originates from the shale itself,specifically authigenic micritic calcite modified by the action of *** opening of horizontal fractures and vein formation is likely driven by fluid overpressure resulting from undercompaction and hydrocarb

Heat transfer enhanced inorganic phase change material compositing carbon nanotubes for battery thermal management and thermal runaway propagation mitigation

Developing technologies that can be applied simultaneously in battery thermal management(BTM)and thermal runaway(TR)mitigation is significant to improving the safety of lithium-ion battery *** phase change material(PCM)with nonflammability has the potential to achieve this dual *** study proposed an encapsulated inorganic phase change material(EPCM)with a heat transfer enhancement for battery systems,where Na_(2)HPO_(4)·1.H_(2)O was used as the core PCM encapsulated by silica and the additive of carbon nanotube(CNT)was applied to enhance the thermal *** microstructure and thermal properties of the EPCM/CNT were analyzed by a series of characterization *** different incorporating methods of CNT were compared and the proper CNT adding amount was also *** preparation,the battery thermal management performance and TR propagation mitigation effects of EPCM/CNT were further investigated on the battery *** experimental results of thermal management tests showed that EPCM/CNT not only slowed down the temperature rising of the module but also improved the temperature uniformity during normal *** peak battery temperature decreased from 76℃to 61.2℃at 2 C discharge rate and the temperature difference was controlled below 3℃.Moreover,the results of TR propagation tests demonstrated that nonflammable EPCM/CNT with good heat absorption could work as a TR barrier,which exhibited effective mitigation on TR and TR *** trigger time of three cells was successfully delayed by 1.9,474 and 551.s,respectively and the propagation intervals were greatly extended as well.

Seafloor topography plays an important role in the evolution of submarine ***,it is still not so clear how the shape of slope affects the three-dimensional(3-D)architecture of submarine *** this study,we analyze the effect of topography factors on different hierarchical lobe architectures that formed during Pliocene to Quaternary in the Rovuma Basin offshore East *** characterize the shape,size and growth pattern of different hierarchical lobe architectures using 3-D seismic *** find that the relief of the topographic slope determines the location of preferential deposition of lobe complexes and single *** the topography is irregular and presents topographic lows,lobe complexes first infill these *** lobes are deposited preferentially at positions with higher longitudinal(***-slope)slope *** the longitudinal slope becomes higher,the aspect ratio of the single lobes ***(***-slope)topography does not seem to have a strong influence on the shape of single lobe,but it seems to affect the overlap of single *** the lateral slope gradient is relatively high,the single lobes tend to have a larger overlap ***,as the average of lateral slope and longitudinal slope gets greater,the width/thickness ratio of the single lobe is smaller,*** tend to accumulate *** results demonstrate that the shape of slopes more comprehensively influences the 3-D architecture of lobes in natural deep-sea systems than previously other lobe deposits and analogue experiments,which helps us better understand the development and evolution of the distal parts of turbidite systems.

As an unconventional resource, oil shale possesses abundant reserves and significant potential for industrial applications. The rational and efficient development of oil shale resources holds immense importance in reducing national energy demand. In-situ catalytic technology, characterized by its high efficiency, low pollution, and minimal energy consumption, represents a key direction for future oil shale development. This paper provides a comprehensive review of research progress in in-situ oil shale mining technology, oil shale pyrolysis catalysts, the pyrolysis mechanism of kerogen, and the compatibility of different heating processes and catalysts. Furthermore, the paper proposes future research directions and prospects for oil shale in-situ catalytic technology, including reservoir modification, highefficiency catalyst synthesis, injection processes, and high-efficiency heating technology. These insights serve as valuable technical references for the advancement of oil shale in-situ catalytic technology.

Leakage and diffusion characteristics of underground hydrogen pipeline

Soil corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement are the main factors of hydrogen pipeline failure. The gas escapes, diffuses and accumulates in the soil and enters the atmosphere when leak occurs. The mechanism of gas diffusion in buried pipelines is very complicated. Mastering the evolution law of hydrogen leakage diffusion is conducive to quickly locating the leakage point and reducing the loss. The leakage model of the underground hydrogen pipeline is established in this paper. The effect of leakage hole, soil type, pipeline pressure, pipeline diameter on hydrogen leakage diffusion were investigated. The results show that when the hydrogen pipeline leaks, the hydrogen concentration increases with the increase of leakage time, showing a symmetrical distribution trend. With the pipeline pressure increase, hydrogen leakage speed is accelerated, and longitudinal diffusion gradually becomes the dominant direction. As the leakage diameter increases, hydrogen leakage per unit of time increases sharply. Hydrogen diffuses more easily in sandy soil, and its diffusion speed, concentration, and range are higher than that in clay soil. The research content provides a reference and basis for the detection and evaluation of buried hydrogen pipeline leakage.

A Gasification Technology to Combine Oil Sludge with Coal-Water Slurry:CFD Analysis and Performance Determination

The development of more environment-friendly ways to dispose of oil sludge is currently regarded as a hot *** this context,gasification technologies are generally seen as a promising way to combine oil sludge with coal–water slurry(CWS)and generate resourceful *** this study,a novel five-nozzle gasifier reactor was analyzed by means of a CFD(Computational fluid dynamic)*** several influential factors,special attention was paid to the height-to-diameter ratio of the gasifier and the mixing ratio of oil sludge,which are known to have a significant impact on the flow field,temperature distribution and gasifier *** to the numerical results,the optimal height-to-diameter ratio and oil mixing ratio are about 2.4:1.and 20%,***,the carbon conversion rate can become as high as 98.55%with the hydrolysis rate reaching a value of 53.88%.The consumption of raw coal and oxygen is generally reduced,while the effective gas production is increased to 50.93 mol/%.

Frequency Domain Fatigue Evaluation on SCR Girth-Weld Based on Structural Stress

The Steel Catenary Riser(SCR)is a vital component for transporting oil and gas from the seabed to the floating *** harsh environmental conditions and complex platform motion make the SCR’s girth-weld prone to fatigue *** structural stress fatigue theory and Master S-N curve method provide accurate predictions for the fatigue damage on the welded joints,which demonstrate significant potential and compatibility in multi-axial and random fatigue ***,we propose a new frequency fatigue model subjected to welded joints of SCR under multiaxial stress,which fully integrates the mesh-insensitive structural stress and frequency domain random process and transforms the conventional welding fatigue technique of SCR into a spectrum analysis technique utilizing structural ***,a full-scale FE model of SCR with welds is established to obtain the modal structural stress of the girth weld and the frequency response function(FRF)of modal coordinate,and a biaxial fatigue evaluation about the girth weld of the SCR can be achieved by taking the effects of multi-load correlation and pipe-soil interaction into *** research results indicate that the frequency-domain fatigue results are aligned with the time-domain results,meeting the fatigue evaluation requirements of the SCR.
