During air injection into an oil reservoir, an oxidation reaction generates some heat to raise the reservoir temperature. When the reservoir temperature reaches an ignition temperature, spontaneous ignition occurs. There is a time delay from the injection to ignition. There are mixed results regarding the feasibility of spontaneous ignition in real-field projects and in laboratory experiments. No analytical model is available in the literature to estimate the oxidation time required to reach spontaneous ignition with heat *** paper discusses the feasibility of spontaneous ignition from theoretical points and experimental and field project observations. An analytical model considering heat loss is proposed. Analytical models with and without heat loss investigate the factors that affect spontaneous ignition. Based on the discussion and investigations, we find that it is more difficult for spontaneous ignition to occur in laboratory experiments than in oil reservoirs; spontaneous ignition is strongly affected by the initial reservoir temperature, oil activity, and heat loss; spontaneous ignition is only possible when the initial reservoir temperature is high, the oil oxidation rate is high, and the heat loss is low.

MPa and 323.1. *** presence of H2S inhibits the CO2adsorption in calcite nanopores due to competitive adsorption,and a higher mole fraction of H2S leads to less *** quantity of CO2adsorbed is lessened by approximately 33% when the mole fraction of H2S reaches ***2molecules preferentially occupy the regions near the po re wall and H2S molecules tend to reside at the center of nanopore even when the molar ratio of CO2is low,indicating that CO2has an adsorption priority on the calcite surface over *** addition,moisture can weaken the adsorption of both CO2and H2S,while CO2is more *** interestingly,we find that pure CO2is more suitable to be sequestrated in the shallower formations,i.e.,500-1.00 m,whereas CO2with H2S impurity should be settled in the deeper reservoirs.

The continental shale reservoirs of Jurassic Lianggaoshan Formation in Sichuan Basin contain thin lamina, which is characterized by strong plasticity and developed longitudinal shell limestone *** improve the production efficiency of reservoirs by multi-cluster fracturing, it is necessary to consider the unbalanced propagation of hydraulic fractures and the penetration effect of fractures. This paper constructed a numerical model of multi-fracture propagation and penetration based on the finite element coupling cohesive zone method; considering the construction cluster spacing, pump rate,lamina strength and other parameters studied the influencing factors of multi-cluster fracture interaction propagation; combined with AE energy data and fracture mode reconstruction method, quantitatively characterized the comprehensive impact of the strength of thin interlayer rock interfaces on the initiation and propagation of fractures that penetrate layers, and accurately predicted the propagation pattern of hydraulic fractures through laminated shale oil reservoirs. Simulation results revealed that in the process of multi-cluster fracturing, the proportion of shear damage is low, and mainly occurs in bedding fractures activated by outer fractures. Reducing the cluster spacing enhances the fracture system's penetration ability, though it lowers the activation efficiency of lamina. The high plasticity of the limestone interlayer may impact the vertical propagation distance of the main fracture. Improving the interface strength is beneficial to the reconstruction of the fracture height, but the interface communication effect is limited. Reasonable selection of layers with moderate lamina strength for fracturing stimulation, increasing the pump rate during fracturing and setting the cluster spacing reasonably are beneficial to improve the effect of reservoir stimulation.

Due to limited data on the geochemical properties of natural gas, estimations are needed for the effective gas source rock in evaluating gas potential. However, the pronounced heterogeneity of mudstones in lacustrine successions complicates the prediction of the presence and geochemical characteristics of gas source rocks. In this paper, the Liaohe Subbasin of Northeast China is used as an example to construct a practical methodology for locating effective gas source rocks in typical lacustrine basins. Three types of gas source rocks, microbial, oil-type, and coal-type, were distinguished according to the different genetic types of their natural gas. A practical three-dimensional geological model was developed, refined, and applied to determine the spatial distribution of the mudstones in the Western Depression of the Liaohe Subbasin and to describe the geochemical characteristics(the abundance, type, and maturation levels of the organic matter). Application of the model in the subbasin indicates that the sedimentary facies have led to heterogeneity in the mudstones, particularly with respect to organic matter types. The effective gas source rock model constructed for the Western Depression shows that the upper sequence(SQ2) of the Fourth member(Mbr 4) of the Eocene Shahejie Formation(Fm) and the lower and middle sequences(SQ3 and SQ4) of the Third member(Mbr 3) form the principal gas-generating interval. The total volume of effective gas source rocks is estimated to be 586 km3. The effective microbial, oil-type, and coal-type gas source rocks are primarily found in the shallow western slope, the central sags, and the eastern slope of the Western Depression, respectively. This study provides a practical approach for more accurately identifying the occurrence and geochemical characteristics of effective natural gas source rocks, enabling a precise quantitative estimation of natural gas reserves.

Deformable gel particles(DGPs) possess the capability of deep profile control and flooding. However, the deep migration behavior and plugging mechanism along their path remain unclear. Breakage, an inevitable phenomenon during particle migration, significantly impacts the deep plugging effect. Due to the complexity of the process, few studies have been conducted on this subject. In this paper, we conducted DGP flow experiments using a physical model of a multi-point sandpack under various injection rates and particle sizes. Particle size and concentration tests were performed at each measurement point to investigate the transportation behavior of particles in the deep part of the reservoir. The residual resistance coefficient and concentration changes along the porous media were combined to analyze the plugging performance of DGPs. Furthermore, the particle breakage along their path was revealed by analyzing the changes in particle size along the way. A mathematical model of breakage and concentration changes along the path was established. The results showed that the passage after breakage is a significant migration behavior of particles in porous media. The particles were reduced to less than half of their initial size at the front of the porous media. Breakage is an essential reason for the continuous decreases in particle concentration, size, and residual resistance coefficient. However, the particles can remain in porous media after breakage and play a significant role in deep plugging. Higher injection rates or larger particle sizes resulted in faster breakage along the injection direction, higher degrees of breakage, and faster decreases in residual resistance coefficient along the path. These conditions also led to a weaker deep plugging ability. Smaller particles were more evenly retained along the path, but more particles flowed out of the porous media, resulting in a poor deep plugging effect. Pulsating hydraulic fracturing(PHF) is a promising fracturing method and can generate a dynamic periodic pressure. The periodic pressure can induce fatigue failure of rocks and decrease initiation pressure of fracture. If the frequency of periodic pressure exceeds 1. Hz, the distribution of pressure along the main fracture will be heterogeneous, which is much different from the one induced by the common fracturing method. In this study, the impact of this special spatial feature of pressure on hydraulic fracture is mainly investigated. A coupled numerical simulation model is first proposed and verified through experimental and theoretical solutions. The mechanism of secondary fracture initiation around the main fracture is then discovered. In addition, sensitivity studies are conducted to find out the application potential of this new method. The results show that(1. this coupled numerical simulation model is accurate. Through comparison with experimental and theoretical data, the average error of this coupled model is less than 1.01..(2) Even if a reservoir has no natural fracture, this heterogeneous distribution pressure can also cause many secondary fractures around the main fracture.(3) The mechanism of secondary fracture initiation is that this heterogeneous distribution pressure causes tensile stress at many locations along the main fracture.(4) Through adjusting the stimulation parameters, the stimulation efficiency can be improved. The average and amplitude of pressure can increase possibility of secondary fracture initiation. The frequency of this periodic pressure can increase number of secondary fractures. Even 6 secondary fractures along a 1.0 m-length main fracture can be generated.(5) The influence magnitudes of stimulation parameters are larger than ones of geomechanical properties, therefore, this new fracturing method has a wide application potential.

Oilfield analogy and productivity prediction based on machine learning: Field cases in PL oilfield, China

In the early time of oilfield development, insufficient production data and unclear understanding of oil production presented a challenge to reservoir engineers in devising effective development plans. To address this challenge, this study proposes a method using data mining technology to search for similar oil fields and predict well productivity. A query system of 1.5 analogy parameters is established based on geological and reservoir engineering research, and the weight values of these parameters are calculated using a data algorithm to establish an analogy system. The fuzzy matter-element algorithm is then used to calculate the similarity between oil fields, with fields having similarity greater than 70% identified as similar oil fields. Using similar oil fields as sample data, 8 important factors affecting well productivity are identified using the Pearson coefficient and mean decrease impurity（MDI） method. To establish productivity prediction models, linear regression（LR）, random forest regression（RF）, support vector regression（SVR）, backpropagation（BP）, extreme gradient boosting（XGBoost）, and light gradient boosting machine（Light GBM） algorithms are used. Their performance is evaluated using the coefficient of determination（R2）, explained variance score（EV）, mean squared error（MSE）, and mean absolute error（MAE） metrics. The Light GBM model is selected to predict the productivity of 30 wells in the PL field with an average error of only 6.31., which significantly improves the accuracy of the productivity prediction and meets the application requirements in the field. Finally, a software platform integrating data query,oil field analogy, productivity prediction, and knowledge base is established to identify patterns in massive reservoir development data and provide valuable technical references for new reservoir development.
