Biochar regulates biogeochemical cycling of iron and chromium in a soil-rice system by stimulating Geobacter and Clostridium

In soil-rice systems,microbial reduction of iron （Fe） has been recognized as a crucial biogeochemical process that regulates Fe and chromium （Cr）translocation;however,the underlying processes are *** investigate the impacts of biochar on the biochemical cycling of Fe and Cr and their toxicity to rice,maize straw biochar was applied at 1.（weight/weight） to a paddy soil spiked with 300 mg kg-1.r under two phosphorus （P） levels (0 or 90 mg kg-1. in a pot *** key microbial groups affecting Fe dissimilatory reduction and their environmental drivers were *** inhibited root Cr uptake by 36%,owing to the promoted iron plaque （IP） formation on the rice root *** analysis showed that Fe concentration in pore water was strongly linked to the abundances of Geobacter （r=0.81.0.94,P<0.05） and Clostridium （r=0.83–0.95,P<0.05）,indicating that Geobacter and Clostridium played essential roles in Fe *** analysis showed that labile carbon and pore water P concentrations were the key determinants influencing Fe-reducing bacterial abundances,accounting for 42%and 32%of the variation in community composition,***,biochar increased Fe and P concentrations in root cell walls,which retained more ***,Cr stress in rice under biochar treatment was relieved through increasing IP formation and altering subcellular *** mechanistic insights had important implications for reducing Cr uptake by rice.

Membrane separation strategies offer promising platform for the emulsion ***,the low mechanical strength of membrane separation layers and the trade-off between separation flux and efficiency present significant *** this study,we report a CFM@UiO-66-NH_(2)membrane with high separation flux,efficiency and stability,through utilizing a robust anti-abrasion collagen fiber membrane(CFM)as the multifunctional support and UiO-66-NH_(2)by an in-situ growth as the separation *** high mechanical strength of the CFM compensated for the weakness of the separation layer,while the charge-breaking effect of UiO-66-NH_(2),along with the size sieving of its constituent separating layers and the capillary effect of the collagen fibers,contributed to the potential for efficient ***,the CFM@UiO-66-NH_(2)membrane exhibited superhydrophilic properties,making it suitable for separating oil-in-water microemulsions and nanoemulsions stabilized by anionic *** membrane demonstrated remarkable separation efficiencies of up to 99.960%and a separation flux of370.05 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1..Moreover,it exhibits stability,durability,and abrasion resistance,maintaining excellent separation performance even when exposed to strong acids and alkalis without any damage to its structure and *** six cycles of reuse,it achieved a separation flux of 41..97 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1.and a separation efficiency of 99.747%.Furthermore,after undergoing 500 cycles of strong abrasion,the separation flux remained at 1.4.39 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1.,with a separation efficiency of 99.992%.These properties make it suitable for the long-term use in harsh operating *** attribute these properties to the electrostatic effect resulting from the amino group on UiO-66-NH_(2)and its in-situ growth on the CFM,which forms a size-screening separation *** work highlights the potential of the CFM@UiO-66-NH_(2)membrane as an environmentally friendly size-screening

Microplastics in sediment of the Three Gorges Reservoir:abundance and characteristics under different environmental conditions

Freshwater microplastic pollution is an urgent issue of global concern,and research on the distribution in reservoirs is *** investigated the microplastic pollution levels in wet sediments collected from the Three Gorges Reservoir,the largest reservoir of *** show that microplastics were ubiquitous in the sediments of the Three Gorges Reservoir,and their abundance ranged from 59 to 276 pp/kg(plastic particles per kg,dry weight).Economic development and total population were important factors affecting the spatial heterogeneity of microplastic abundance,and the contribution of large cities along the reservoir to microplastic pollution should be paid with more *** microplastics were the most abundant type of microplastic particles in reservoir sediments,whereas polystyrene,polypropylene,and polyamide were the main types of *** apparent spatial heterogeneity in morphology and color of microplastics is attributed to different anthropogenic or landbased pollution ***,the accumulation of microplastics near the inlet of tributaries reflects the role of potential contributors of *** importantly,multiple bisphenols(BPs)and heavy metals detected at the microplastic surfaces indicate that microplastics can act as carriers of these pollutants in the environment in the same way as sediments did,which may alter the environmental fate and toxicity of these ***,we conclude that the Three Gorges Reservoir had been contaminated with microplastics,which posed a stress risk for organisms who ingest them along with their associated pollutants(BPs,heavy metals).

Source apportionment and specific-source-site risk of quinolone antibiotics for effluent-receiving urban rivers and groundwater in a city, China

There is a large surface-groundwater exchange downstream ofwastewater treatment plants(WWTPs),and antibiotics upstream may influence sites downstream of ***,samples from 9 effluent-receiving urban rivers(ERURs)and 1. groundwater sites were collected in Shijiazhuang City in December 2020 and April *** ERURs,8 out of 1. target quinolone antibiotics(QNs)were detected,and the total concentration of QNs in December and April were 1.0.6-4,398 ng/L and 8.02–2,476 ng/L,*** groundwater,all target QNs were detected,and the total QNs concentration was 1.09–23.03 ng/L for December and 4.54–1.0.3 ng/L for *** distribution of QNs was dissimilar between ERURs and *** QN concentrations were weakly correlated with land use types in the *** results of a positive matrix factorization model(PMF)indicated four potential sources of QNs in both ERURs and groundwater,and WWTP effluents were the main source of *** December to April,the contribution of WWTP effluents and agricultural emissions increased,while livestock activities *** value decomposition(SVD)results showed that the spatial variation of most QNs was mainly contributed by sites downstream(7.09%-88.86%)of ***,a new method that combined the results of SVD and PMF was developed for a specific-source-site risk quotient(SRQ),and the SRQ for QNs was at high level,especially for the sites downstream of *** temporal variation,the SRQ for WWTP effluents,aquaculture,and agricultural emissions ***,in order to control the antibiotic pollution,more attention should be paid to WWTP effluents,aquaculture,and agricultural emission sources for the benefit of sites downstream of WWTPs.

Enhanced interfacial charge transfer on Bi metal@defective Bi_(2)Sn_(2)O_(7) quantum dots towards improved full-spectrum photocatalysis:A combined experimental and theoretical investigation

To mitigate the water pollution problem by photocatalytic degradation of typical antibiotics of tetracycline(TC),we prepared defective Bi_(2)Sn_(2)O_7(BSO)quantum dots(QDs)with a full spectral response due to Bi metal deposition,using a one-pot hydrothermal method,labeled as Bi@*** optimized Bi@BSOOV showed 73.4% removal of TC in 1.h under irradiation with a 50 W LED lamp in the wavelength band in the visible-near-infrared(vis-NIR)light,a rate that is substantially greater than that of pure BSO(1..7%).The synergistic interaction of Bi metal and oxygen vacancies(OVs)is crucial to boosting photocatalytic *** near-infrared region of the photo-response is extended by the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)effect of Bi metal,enhancing the photocatalytic performance and dramatically raising the efficiency of solar energy *** addition to inducing defect levels in BSO,the OVs also activate the surface adsorbed O_(2) to promote the production of·O_(2)^(-)and ^(1.O_(2).DFT calculations reveal that Bi metal and OVs can mutually tune the charge transfer *** the one hand,Bi metal can act as both a charge transfer bridge and an electron donor to assist charge *** the other hand,OVs-induced defect levels allow electrons that leap to the conduction band(CB)to first leap from the valence band(VB)to the defect levels,notably improving interfacial charge separation and *** concept of design executed in this study for altering the catalyst by introducing both OVs and Bi metal can provide a rational design idea and potential insight for improving the photocatalytic activity for environmental applications.

Rock strength weakening subject to principal stress rotation:Experimental and numerical investigations

During the construction and operation of gas storage reservoirs,changes in the principal stress direction can induce fracture propagation under conditions of lower differential stress,potentially leading to failure in the surrounding ***,the weakening of strength due to pure stress rotation has not yet been *** on fracture mechanics,an enhanced Mohr-Coulomb strength criterion considering stress rotation is proposed and verified with experimental and numerical *** micro-damage state and the evolution of the rock under the pure stress-rotation condition are *** findings indicate that differential stress exceeding the crack initiation stress is a prerequisite for stress rotation to promote the development of rock *** the differential stress increases,stress rotation is more likely to induce rock damage,leading to a transition from brittle to plastic failure,characterized by wider fractures and a more complex fracture ***,a negative exponential relationship exists between the stress rotation angle required for rock failure and the differential *** feasibility of applying the enhanced criterion to practical engineering is discussed using monitoring data obtained from a mine-by *** study introduces new concepts for understanding the damage evolution of the surrounding rock under complex stress paths and offers a new theoretical basis for predicting the damage of gas storage reservoirs.

Tandem catalysis,capable of decoupling individual steps,provides a feasible way to build a high-efficiency CO_(2) electro-conversion system for multicarbons(C_(2+)).The construction of electrocatalytic materials is one of focusing ***,we fabricated a single atom involved multivalent oxide-derived Cu composite material and found it inclined to reconstruct into oxygen-deficient multiphase Cu based species hybridized with monatomic Ni on N doped C *** this prototype,rapid CO generation and C-C coupling are successively achieved on NiN4 sites and surface amorphized Cu species with defects,resembling a micro-production *** this way,the in situ formed tandem catalyst exhibited a high Faradaic efficiency(FE)of~78%for C_(2+)products along with satisfactory durability over 50 ***,the reconstruction-induced amorphous layer with abundant asymmetric sites should be favorable to improve the ethanol selectivity(FE:63%),which is about 1. times higher than that of the non-tandem Cu-based contrast *** work offers a new approach for manipulating tandem catalyst systems towards enhancing C_(2+)products.

Development of hydrothermally stable,low-temperature catalysts for controlling nitrogen oxides emissions from mobile sources remains an urgent *** have prepared a metal oxide-zeolite composite catalyst by depositing Mn active species on a mixture support of CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3) and *** composite catalyst is hydrothermally stable and shows improved low-temperature SCR activity and significantly reduced N_(2)O formation than the corresponding metal oxide *** with a Cu-CHA catalyst,the composite catalyst has a faster response to NH_(3) injection and less NH_(3) *** characterization results reveal that such an oxide-zeolite composite catalyst contains more acidic sites and Mn^(3+)species as a result of oxide-zeolite interaction,and this interaction leads to the generation of more NH_(4)^(+)species bound to the Br?nsted acid sites and more reactive NOxspecies absorbed on the Mn ***,we report our mechanistic understanding of the oxide-zeolite composite catalyst and its molecular pathway for improving the low-temperature activity and N_(2) selectivity for NH_(3)-SCR ***,this work may provide an alternative methodology for low-temperature NO_(x) control from diesel vehicles.

Nonlinear proinflammatory effect of short-term PM_(2.5)exposure:A potential role of lipopolysaccharide

The association between PM_(2.5)(particulate matter≤2.5μm)short-term exposure and its health effect is non-linear from the epidemiological *** this nonlinearity is suggested to be related with the PM_(2.5)heterogeneity,however,the underlying biological mechanism is still ***,a total of 38 PM_(2.5)filters were collected continuously for three weeks in winter Beijing,with the ambient PM_(2.5)varying between 1. and 270μg/m^(3).Human monocytes-derived macrophages(THP-1.were treated with PM_(2.5)water-soluble elutes at1.μg/mL to investigate the PM_(2.5)short-term exposure effect from a proinflammatory *** proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor(TNF)induced by the PM_(2.5)elutes at equal concentrations were unequal,showing the heterogeneity of PM_(2.5)proinflammatory *** the various chemical and biological components,lipopolysaccharide(LPS)showed a strong positive association with the TNF ***,some outliers were observed among the TNF-LPS ***,for PM_(2.5)from relatively clean air episodes,the higher LPS amount corresponded to relatively low TNF *** this phenomenon was also observed in the promotion tests by treating macrophages with PM_(2.5)elutes dosed with additional trace *** expression analysis indicated the involvement of oxidative-stress related genes in the LPS signaling ***,a potential oxidative-stress-mediated suppression on the PM_(2.5)-borne LPS proinflammatory effect was proposed to be accounted for the ***,the results showed the differential role of LPS in the heterogeneity of PM_(2.5)proinflammatory effects from a component-based *** experimental studies are needed to elucidate the signaling pathway of LPS attached on PM_(2.5)from different air quality episodes.
