Enrichment of anammox biomass during mainstream wastewater treatment driven by achievement of partial denitrification through the addition of bio-carriers

Anammox is widely considered as the most cost-effective and sustainable process for nitrogen ***,how to achieve the enrichment of anammox biomass remains a challenge for its large-scale application,especially in mainstream wastewater *** this study,the feasibility of enrichment of anammox biomass was explored through the realization of partial denitrification and the addition of *** using ordinary activated sludge,a sequencing batch reactor(SBR)followed by an up-fow anaerobic sludge bed(UASB)was operated at 25±2℃ for 21. *** long-term operation was divided into five phases,in which SBR and UASB were started-up in Phases I and II,*** eliminating oxygen and adjusting the infow ratios in Phases III-V,advanced nitrogen removal was achieved with the effuent total nitrogen being 4.7 mg/L and the nitrogen removal efficiency being 90.5%in Phase *** in-situ and ex-situ activity tests demonstrated the occurrence of partial denitrification and ***,1.S rRNA high-throughput sequencing analysis revealed that Candidatus Brocadia was enriched from below the detection limit to in biofilms(0.4%in SBR,2.2%in UASB)and the foc sludge(0.2%in SBR,1.3%in UASB),while Thauera was mainly detected in the foc sludge(8.1.in SBR,8.8%in UASB),which might play a key role in partial ***,this study provides a novel strategy to enrich anammox biomass driven by rapid achievement of partial denitrification through the addition of bio-carriers,which will improve large-scale application of anammox processes in mainstream wastewater treatment.

A study on carbon emission calculation in operation stage of residential buildings based on micro electricity usage behavior:Three case studies in China

Along with the improvement of social productivity and living standard,residential buildings generate a growing portion of carbon emissions,especially during the operation ***,energy use behaviors are usually ignored in carbon emission *** study focuses on calculating carbon emissions during the operation stage for residential buildings based on the characteristics of energy use behaviors in different ***,we investigated energy use behaviors in dwellings across three cities in China:Xi'an,Shanghai and ***,we established calibrated carbon emission models and optimization models with different green building measures for residential *** results of this research reveal a significant disparity between the energy usage habits of residents in different climate *** carbon emissions of residential electricity bills in Xi'an,Shanghai and Fuzhou are 1..6 kgCO_(2)/(m^(2)·a)(excluding central heating),29.3 kgCO_(2)/(m^(2)·a)and 1..2 kgCO_(2)/(m^(2)·a),*** carbon emissions account for 32.2%-64.1. of the *** comparison to the model based on internal standard setting,the accuracy of the models using actual internal has improved by 25.9%-37.4%.The three-star green building methods have the highest carbon reduction rate among different star buildings,the emission reduction rates are around 30%.This study's findings are useful for carbon emission calculation and green building design of residential buildings in the future.

In-depth understanding of transport behavior of sulfided nano zerovalent iron/reduced graphene oxide@guar gum slurry: Stability and mobility

Nanoscale zero-valent iron(NZVI),which has the advantages of small particle size,large specific surface area,and high reactivity,is often injected into contaminated aquifers in the form of ***,the prone to passivation and agglomeration as well as poor stability andmobility of NZVI limit the further application of this technology in ***,sulfided NZVI loaded on reduced graphene oxide(S-NZVI/rGO)and guar gum(GG)with shearthinning properties as stabilizers were used to synthesize S-NZVI/rGO@GG ***,TEM,and FT-IR confirmed that the dispersion and anti-passivation of NZVI were optimized in the coupled *** stability and mobility of the slurry were improved by increasing the GG concentration,enhancing the pH,and decreasing the ionic strength and the presence of Ca^(2+)ions,respectively.A modified advection-dispersion equation(ADE)was used to simulate the transport experiments considering the strain and physicochemical deposition/***,colloidal filtration theory(CFT)demonstrated that Brownian motion plays a dominant role in themigration of S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurry,and the maximummigration distance can be increased by appropriately increasing the injection ***-Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek(XDLVO)theory showed that the excellent stability and migration of S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurry mainly came from the GG spatial *** study has important implications for the field injection of S-NZVI/rGO@GG *** to the injection parameters,the injection range of S-NZVI/rGO@GG slurry is effectively controlled,which lays the foundation for the promotion of application in actual fields.

Effects of air damping on quality factors of different probes in tapping mode atomic force microscopy

The AFM probe in tapping mode is a continuous process of energy dissipation,from moving away from to intermittent contact with the sample *** present,studies regarding the energy dissipation mechanism of this continuous process have only been reported sporadically,and there are no systematic explanations or experimental verifications of the energy dissipation mechanism in each stage of the continuous *** quality factors can be used to characterize the energy dissipation in TM-AFM *** this study,the vibration model of the microcantilever beam was established,coupling the vibration and damping effects of the microcantilever *** quality factor of the vibrating microcantilever beam under damping was derived,and the air viscous damping when the probe is away from the sample and the air squeeze film damping when the probe is close to the sample were *** addition,the mechanism of the damping effects of different shapes of probes at different tip–sample distances was *** accuracy of the theoretical simplified model was verified using both experimental and simulation methods.A clearer understanding of the kinetic characteristics and damping mechanism of the TM-AFM was achieved by examining the air damping dissipation mechanism of AFM probes in the tapping mode,which was very important for improving both the quality factor and the imaging quality of the TM-AFM *** study’s research findings also provided theoretical references and experimental methods for the future study of the energy dissipation mechanism of micro-nano-electromechanical systems.

In vitro performance of a biodegradable zinc alloy adjustable-loop cortical suspension fixation for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

Anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)injuries of the knee are one of the most common and serious athletic *** widely used cortical suspension fixation buttons for ligament reconstruction are permanent implants,particularly those made from conventional steel or titanium *** this study,a biodegradable Zn-0.45Mn-0.2Mg(ZMM42)alloy with the yield strength of 300.4 MPa and tensile strength of 329.8 MPa was prepared through hot *** use of zinc alloys in the preparation of cortical suspension fixation buttons was proposed for the first *** 35 d of immersion in simulated body fluids,the ZMM42 alloy fixation buttons were degraded at a rate of 44μm/a,and the fixation strength was retained(379.55 N)in the traction ***,the ZMM42 alloy fixation buttons exhibited an increase in MC3T3-E1.cell viability and high antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus *** results reveal the potential of biodegradable zinc alloys for use as ligament reconstruction materials and for developing diverse zinc alloy cortical suspension fixation devices.

Time-domain Differential Protection Based on Operating and Restraining Trajectory Indices for Lines Connecting Battery Storage Energy Stations

Battery energy storage stations(BESSs)pose sever-al challenges for both phasor-based differential protection and the newly-proposed time-domain differential *** challenges include low sensitivity and even ***,the negative impact of various nonideal conditions,including current transformer(CT)saturation,errors,and outliers,on the security of differential protection remains an important *** by the aforementioned issues,this study ac-counts for the trajectory distribution discrepancy on Cartesian plane under various conditions and proposes a time-domain dif-ferential protection *** this paper,the trajectory formed by operating and restraining current samples is ***,after considering different operating states,the fault severity levels,and nonideal conditions,the variances in trajectory distribution between internal and external faults are extensively *** this basis,the Cartesian plane is divided into operating,uncertainty,and restraining ***-ther,the operating and restraining trajectory indices are meticu-lously designed and a protection criterion based on these indi-ces is formed to accurately separate internal faults from other events,unaffected by CT saturation,errors,and *** exceptional performance of the proposed protection method is extensively validated through PSCAD simulations and a hard-ware-in-the-loop testing *** the dependability,sensitivity,and security,the proposed protection method outper-forms three state-of-the-art differential protection methods.

Exploring the Effect of Plasticity on the Phase Imaging of TM-AFM Through Molecular Dynamics Simulations

In the tapping-mode atomic force microscope(TM-AFM),the probe tip continuously taps the sample surface,which may cause plastic deformation of the sample and result in energy *** energy dissipation of the probe is closely related to the scanned phase *** quantify the energy dissipation due to plastic indentations of the sample,this study utilized a combination of molecular dynamics(MD)simulations and experiments on single-crystal copper samples,including multiple nano-indentation *** energy dissipation of the probe due to the plastic deformation of the sample was calculated by integrating the hysteresis curve of the indentation depth versus the force applied to the *** simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental *** sets of results have demonstrated that the plastic energy dissipation decreases as the number of indentations increases,and eventually the energy of the probe tends to *** equilibrium energy dissipation is associated with other dissipation ***,it was observed that,after hundreds of taps,the dissipated energy of plastic deformation could be ignored,implying that the scanned image may not reflect the plasticity information of the sample after multiple taps of the probe on the sample surface for scanning.
