Effects of loading contact on electric-power generation of lead zirconate titanate piezoelectric ceramic plate

To better understand the generation of electric power for piezoelectric Pb Zr Ti O3(PZT)ceramic plate(?25 mm),an attempt was made to investigate experimentally and numerically electricpower generation characteristics during cyclic bending under various loading fixtures(?0–?20 mm),i.e.,different contact areas.Increasing the load-contact area on the PZT ceramic leads to a nonlinear decrease in the generated voltage.Decreasing contact area basically enhances the generated voltage,although the voltage saturates during loading when the contact area is less than?5 mm.A similar voltage is generated for?0 and?5 mm,which is attributed to strain status(ratio of compressive and tensile strain)and material failure due to different stress distribution in the PZT ceramic.On the basis of the obtained electric generation voltage,suitable loading conditions are clarified by loading with the?5 mm fixture,which generates a higher voltage and a longer lifetime of the PZT ceramic.From this approach,it is appeared that the area contact with the area ratio of 0.04(?5 mm/?20 mm)is suitable to obtain the high efficiency of the electric voltage.

The volume anomalies with temperature variations in tin-modified lead zirconate titanate ceramics are investigated. Experimental results show that the volume changes are related to the phase transitions induced with temperature. The magnitude and orientation of crystal volume changes are dependent on the particular phase transition. When antiferroelectrics is transformed to ferroelectrics or paraelectrics the volume expands. Oppositely when ferroelectrics is transformed to antiferroelectrics or paraelectrics the volume contracts. In the transition of antiferroelectric orthorhombic structure to tetragonal structure or ferroelectric low-temperature rhombohedral structure to high-temperature rhombohedral structure, there are also revealed apparent anomalies in the curves of thermal expansion. Among them, the volume strain caused by the transition between antiferroelectrics and ferroelectrics is the biggest in magnitude, and the linear expansion dL/L0 and the expansion coefficient (dL/L0)/dT can reach 2.

Highly dispersed gadolinium zirconate(GZ)nanoparticles with fluorite structure were successfully synthesized by co-precipitation method,and their phase composition and microstructure,formation mechanism,and grain growth kinetics were investigated.The results suggest that the nanoparticles were obtained through hydroxide dehydration and solid phase reaction.High dispersion was accomplished by ethanol solvent to reduce the hydrogen bond and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS)surfactant to increase the electrostatic repulsion between the nanoparticles.The grain growth activation energy of GZ powders calcined at lower temperature(1200°C)is 148.4 kJ/mol(Qh).The current study shows that the optimal process to synthesize dispersed GZ nanoparticles includes ethanol solvent,3 wt.%SDBS surfactant,and 1100°C as calcining temperature.

Oxide powders of Zr1_xTixO2(x=0-1)solid solutions with micron-sized particles were synthesized via a solution combustion method.The synthesis process and Zr/Ti molar ratio were optimized to produce powders with the tetragonal crystal structure.X-ray diffraction,Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron spectroscopy results confirm that a full crystallization microstructure with the single tetragonal phase is obtained after calcination at 600℃while maintaining the crystallite size67 mol%exhibit a tetragonal crystal structure and the embedding Ti in ZrO2 improves the structure stability.The nitrogen sorption results indicate that the powders possess mesoporous morphology with medium specific surface areas(~10-50 m^2/g).Chemical stability tests show that these powders are relatively stable with negligible removal of titanium and zirconium after elution by 0.5 mol/L HC1.Density functional theory was used to calculate the most stable structure with low energy for the selected composition.

The influences of CaZrO3 on the dielectric properties and microstructures of BaTiO3 (BT)-based ceramics have been investigated. The experiment results showed that the dielectric constant at room temperature increased with the addition of CaZrO3 in the range of 0―3.0 mol%, which could be explained by the growth of BT grains. XRD analysis revealed that the tetragonality declined as CaZrO3 concentration in-creased. XRD patterns of BT ceramics with different amounts of CaZrO3 doping were analyzed by a recently developed procedure-materials analysis using diffrac-tion (MAUD), which was based on the Rietveld method combined with Fourier analysis. The results depicted that the high temperature peak of tempera-ture-capacitance characteristics (TCC) was largely dependent on the micro-strain of samples. Furthermore, more CaZrO3 doping resulted in lower porosity and higher density. It was revealed that proper usage of CaZrO3 could improve the di-electric properties significantly, which was benefit to develop X8R multi-layer ce-ramic capacitors.

The relationship between composition and the electric mechanical properties for La2O3-doped lead niobium stibium zirconate titanate(La2O3-doped PNSZT) piezoelectric ceramics,in which there are tetragonal and rhombohedral coexistent phases, was studied. A series of piezoelectric ceramics with good properties was obtained, having dielectric constants(ε=1500～2500), plane electromechanical coupling factor(Kp=0.45～0.65), mechanical quality factor(Qm=500～1600). These materials are used for making ultrasonic sensor and filter, and marine acoustic launching and receiving device, and so on. It has been explored that the influence of composition on the lattice constant and phase composition of La2O3-doped PNSZT piezoelectric ceramics by XRD(X-ray diffraction). The character of dielectric constant changing of La2O3-doped PNSZT piezoelectric ceramics before polarization and after polarization was studied. The affecting mechanism about composition on the electric machine properties of phase coexistent La2O3-doped PNSZT piezoelectric ceramics was analyzed and discussed.

Synthesis of PZT power by wet-dry method and its structure

To prepare PZT powder at lower temperature, lead zirconate titanate (PZT) powder (x(Zr)/x(Ti)=56?44) was prepared by wet-dry method. Glycol was used as the solvent, and zirconium oxychloride was used as zirconium source. The properties and structure of the powder were analyzed by XRD, SEM and Sedimentograph. The effects of sintering parameter such as sintering temperature, keeping time and heating-up velocity on structure of PZT power were investigated. The results show that homogeneous PZT with single-phase perovskite structure can be obtained after sintering at 730 ℃ for 2 h, and the average size of PZT powder is about 113 nm.

A multilayer piezoelectric actuator, with dimension of 10 mm×10 mm×60 mm, which can output a tensile displacement directly by exploring the d31 effect of piezoelectrics, was fabricated using soft Lead zirconate Titanate(PZT) ceramics. The performance of the actuator was characterized by a special home-made experimental setup under electric fields varying from 200 to 1 000 V/mm with the preload varying from-150 to 100 N at room temperature. Results showed that it can output a maximum tensile displacement of 12 μm under unipolar electric field of 1 000 V/mm and preload was independent with generative displacement in the range of testing preload. Additionally, using the actuator, we built a micro loading apparatus, which can be used to test the fracture behavior of brittle materials.
