Basic characteristics and development of yield criteria for geomaterials

The yield criteria of geomaterials play a crucial role in studying and designing the strength of materials and *** basic characteristics of yield criteria for geomaterials need to be studied under the framework of continuum *** characteristics include the effects of strength difference（SD） of materials in tension and compression,normal stress,intermediate principal stress,intermediate principal shear stress,hydrostatic stress,twin-shear stresses,and the convexity of yield *** of the proposed yield criteria possess only one or some of these basic *** example,the Tresca yield criterion considers only single-shear stress effect,and ignores the effect of SD,normal stress,intermediate principal stress,intermediate principal shear stress,hydrostatic stress,and twin-shear *** Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion accounts for the effect of SD,normal stress,single-shear stress and hydrostatic stress,but disregards the effect of intermediate principal stress,intermediate principal shear stress,and twin-shear *** basic characteristics remain to be fully addressed in the development of yield *** this paper,we propose a new yield criterion with three features,that is,newly developed,better than existing criteria and ready for *** is shown that the proposed criterion performs better than the existing ones and is ready for *** development of mechanical models for various yield criteria and the applications of the unified strength theory to engineering are also *** to a new tetragonal mechanical model,a tension-cut condition is added to the unified strength *** unified strength theory is extended to the tension-tension region.

The commonly used linear yield criteria of frozen soil, such as Mohr-Comlomb, von Mises-Botkin or Drucker-Prager criteria, have shown limitation. Under combined stress state, as confining pressure is increased, the strength increases to its maximum value and then decreases with the continuous increase in confining pressure. The failure surface in the principal stress space forms a paraboloid whose shape depends upon cohesion and friction angle, and changes with *** on test data, a parabolic yield criteria and relevant parameters are given. At low stress levels, the criteria can transform into linear criteria.

Influence of material models on theoretical forming limit diagram prediction for Ti-6Al-4V alloy under warm condition

Forming limit diagram (FLD) is an important performance index to describe the maximum limit of principal strains that can be sustained by sheet metals till to the onset of localized necking. It offers a convenient and useful tool to predict the forming limit in the sheet metal forming processes. In the present study, FLD has been determined experimentally for Ti?6Al?4V alloy at 400 °C by conducting a Nakazima test with specimens of different widths. Additionally, for theoretical FLD prediction, various anisotropic yield criteria (Barlat 1989, Barlat 1996, Hill 1993) and different hardening models viz., Hollomon power law (HPL), Johnson?Cook (JC), modified Zerilli–Armstrong (m-ZA), modified Arrhenius (m-Arr) models have been developed. Theoretical FLDs have been determined using Marciniak and Kuczynski (M?K) theory incorporating the developed yield criteria and constitutive models. It has been observed that the effect of yield model is more pronounced than the effect of constitutive model for theoretical FLDs prediction. However, the value of thickness imperfection factor (f0) is solely dependent on hardening model. Hill (1993) yield criterion is best suited for FLD prediction in the right hand side region. Moreover, Barlat (1989) yield criterion is best suited for FLD prediction in left hand side region. Therefore, the proposed hybrid FLD in combination with Barlat (1989) and Hill (1993) yield models with m-Arr hardening model is in the best agreement with experimental FLD.

Simulated and experimental investigation of stretch sheet forming of commercial AA1200 aluminum alloy

The simulation and experimental results obtained from stretching test of a commercial sheet of AA1200 aluminum alloy were compared and evaluated. Uniaxial tensile tests were carried out to obtain the required input parameters for simulation. Finite element analysis of the forming process was carried out using Abaqus/Explicit by considering von Mises and Hill-1948 yield criteria. Simulation results including punch force and strain distribution were compared and validated with the experimental results. The results reveal that using anisotropic yield criteria for simulation has a better match in both cases with the experiments.
