wireless mesh network is a promising technology with many challenges yet to be addressed. Novel and efficient algorithms need to be developed for routing and admission control with the objective to increase the acceptance ratio of new calls without affecting the Quality of Service (QoS) of the existing calls and to maintain the QoS level provided for the mobile calls. In this paper, a novel Markov Decision-based Admission Control and Routing (MDACR) algorithm is proposed. The MDACR algorithm finds a near optimal solution using the value iteration method. To increase the admission rate for both types of calls, a multi-homing admission and routing algorithm for handoff and new calls is proposed. This algorithm associates the user with two different access points which is beneficial in a highly congested network and proposes a new routing metric to assure seamless handoff in the network. Our proposed algorithm outperforms other algorithms in the literature in terms of handoff delay, blocking probability, and number of hard handoff.

Incorporating network Coding into TCP Grounded on network Utility Maximization in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel wireless mesh networks

Based on the characteristics of weak mobility in wireless mesh network, this paper researched the Destination Sequenced Distance Vector（DSDV） routing and proposed Divide Cluster-DSDV protocol. This protocol introduces the clustering algorithm in the information redundancy problem for DSDV routing. Based on the existing clustering algorithm, the protocol also modifies the standard of evaluation link Metric in DSDV protocol which using the relay node to maximize the throughput of the network. Further this paper refers to the design idea of Mixed Routing Protocol（ZRP） to alleviate the problem of heavy load of cluster head in DC-DSDV. This paper adopts the wireless ad-hoc network on-demand plane distance vector routing protocol（AODV） routing lookup between clusters and proposes domain-AODV protocol to solve the problem of broadcast storm（BSP） which by means of probability radio avoid BSP.

A new approach, named TCP-I2NC, is proposed to improve the interaction between network coding and TCP and to maximize the network utility in interference-free multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks. It is grounded on a network Utility Maxmization (NUM) formulation which can be decomposed into a rate control problem and a packet scheduling problem. The solutions to these two problems perform resource allocation among different flows. Simulations demonstrate that TCP-I2NC results in a significant throughput gain and a small delay jitter. network resource is fairly allocated via the solution to the NUM problem and the whole system also runs stably. Moreover, TCP-I2NC is compatible with traditional TCP variants.

This article describes a new model of a cooperative file sharing system in a wireless mesh network. The authors＇ approach is to develop an efficient and cooperative file sharing mechanism based on opportunistic random linear network Coding. Within this mechanism, every node transmits random linear combination of its packets according to cooperative priority, which is computed in a distributed manner according to the node-possible contribution to its neighbor nodes. With this mechanism, the more a node contributes to others, the more the node has chances to recover the entire file first. The performance metrics of interest here are： the delay until all the packets in a file have been delivered to all nodes, and an ideal packet size, by the use of which the authors can get the minimum transmission delay. Through extensive simulation the authors compare their mechanism with the current transmission process in a wireless mesh network without random linear network Coding. The authors found that using their mechanism, the nodes can cooperatively share the entire file with less transmission time and delay than the current transmission process without random linear network.

Cost-Sensitive and Load-Balancing Gateway Placement in wireless mesh networks with QoS Constraints

In wireless mesh networks （WMNs）, gateway placement is the key to network performance, QoS and construction cost. This paper focuses on the optimization of the cost and load balance in the gateway placement strategy, ensuring the QoS requirements. Firstly, we define a metric for load balance on the gateways, and address the minimum cost and load balancing gateway placement problem. Secondly, we propose two algorithms for gateway placement. One is a heuristic algorithm, which is sensitive to the cost, selects the gateway candidates according to the capacity/cost ratio of the nodes, and optimizes the load balance on the gateways through scanning and shifting methods. The other is a genetic algorithm, which can find the global optimal solution. The two algorithms differ in their computing complexity and the quality of the generated solutions, and thus provide a trade-off for WMN design. At last, simulation is done, and experimental results show that the two algorithms outperform the others. Compared with OPEN/CLOSE, the average cost of gateway placement generated by our algorithms is decreased by 8%~32%, and the load variance on the gateways decreased by 77%-86%. For the genetic algorithm, the performance improvement is at the price of the increase of the CPU execution time.

Communication security is a critical aspect of QoS provisioning in wireless mesh network （WMN）. Because of the inherent characteristics of WMN, conventional security mechanisms cannot be applied. In order to guarantee the communication security, a novel communication security mechanism is proposed. The mechanism uses a communication encryption scheme to encrypt data packets and employs a risk avoidance scheme to avoid the malicious nodes during communications. Simulation results indicate that the mechanism is able to provide secure communication effectively and reduce the damage of attacks through multiple paths.

Opportunistic routing （OR） involves multiple candidate forwarders to relay packets by taking advantage of the broadcast nature and multi-user diversity of the wireless medium. Compared with traditional routing （TR）, OR is more suitable for the unreliable wireless link, and can evidently improve the end to end throughput. At present, there are many achievements concerning OR in the single radio wireless network. However, the study of OR in multi-radio wireless network stays the beginning stage. To demonstrate the benefit of OR in multi-radio multi-channel network, we propose a new route metric -- multi-channel expected anypath transmission time （MEATT）, which exploits the channel diversity and resource of multiple candidate forwarders for OR. Based on the new metric, a distributed Mgorithm named Channel Aware Opportunistic Routing （CAOR） is proposed. The simulation results demonstrate that MEATT improves 1.14 and 1.53 times of the average throughput than existing expected anypath transmission time （EATT）and metric of interference and channel switching cost （MIC） respectively. The average delay of MEATT is 17% and 40% lower than those of EATT, MIC, respectively.
