wave radiation by a Floating Body in Water of Finite Depth Using an Exact DtN Boundary Condition

The present paper focuses on the wave radiation by an oscillating body with six degrees of freedom by using the DtN artifi-cial boundary *** artificial boundary is usually selected as a circle or spherical surface to solve various types of fields,such as sound waves or electromagnetic waves,provided that the considered domain is infinite or unbounded in all ***,the substantial wave motion is considered in water of finite depth,that is,the fluid domain is bounded vertically but unbounded ***,the DtN boundary condition is given on an artificial cylindrical surface,which divides the water domain into an interior and exterior *** boundary integral equation is adopted to implement the present *** the case of a floating cylinder,the results of hydrodynamic coefficients of a chamfer box are discussed.

Chip-Based Square wave Dynamic Micro Atom Trap

We propose a scheme for a chip-based dynamic micro atom trap where the trap potentials are created by square wave radiation and an inhomogeneoas static magnetic field. The parameters of this kind of trap array can be modulated dynamically. Both one-dimensional （I-D） and two-dimensional （2-D） trap array potentials for 6Li atoms are discussed. The 1-D trap is combined by a square wave radiation （6 kHz） and a gradient magnetic field （300G/cm）, the array constant of 1-D trap is 0.85 μm. Since the trap array does not require any laser field, it can be easily integrated on a chip and it is useful in applications of scalable quantum information processing.

Fully nonlinear modeling of radiated waves generated by floating flared structures

The nonlinear radiated waves generated by a structure in forced motion, are simulated numerically based on the potential theory. A fully nonlinear numerical model is developed by using a higher-order boundary element method （HOBEM）. In this model, the instantaneous body position and the transient free surface are updated at each time step. A Lagrangian technique is employed as the time marching scheme on the free surface. The mesh regridding and interpolation methods are adopted to deal with the possible numerical instability. Several auxiliary functions are proposed to calculate the wave loads indirectly, instead of directly predicting the temporal derivative of the velocity potential. Numerical experiments are carried out to simulate the heave motions of a submerged sphere in infinite water depth, the heave and pitch motions of a truncated flared cylinder in finite depth. The results are verified against the published numerical results to ensure the effectiveness of the proposed model. Moreover, a series of higher harmonic waves and force components are obtained by the Fourier transformation to investigate the nonlinear effect of oscillation frequency. The difference among fully nonlinear, body-nonlinear and linear results is analyzed. It is found that the nonlinearity due to free surface and body surface has significant influences on the numerical results of the radiated waves and forces.

Estimation of wave Forces on Large Compliant Platforms

Compliant offshore structures such as spars,tension leg platforms(TLPs) and semi-submersibles have been dramatically improved in recent years due to their capability for deep water operation. waves are the most important environmental phenomenon affecting these offshore structures. Estimation of wave forces is vital in offshore structure design. For large compliant offshore platforms,Morrison's equation is not valid anymore and usually diffraction theory is used. In this research,by using the finite difference method,a detailed analysis of the first-order diffraction of monochromatic waves on a large cylinder as a structural element is performed to solve the radiation and diffraction potentials. The results showed that the developed model is a reliable tool to estimate the wave forces and hydrodynamic coefficients on large structure elements when wave diffraction and radiation are considered.
