This paper presents an efficient algorithm for generating a spherical multiple-cell(SMC)*** algorithm adopts a recursive loop structure and provides two refinement methods:(1)an arbitrary area refinement method and(2)a nearshore refinement *** experiments are carried out,and the results show that compared with the existing grid generation algorithm,this algorithm is more flexible and operable.

A numerical study of sea waves generated by tropical cyclone Jelawat is carried out using the cycle 4 version of the *** model domain currently covers the latitudes 20-45 N and longitudes 115-135 E,and the model spatial resolution reaches 0.25 ×*** of the model results with buoy observations reveals that the model can fairly reproduce the temporal variation of observed ***-dimensional comparison is also made against the satellite altimeter significant wave heights derived from TOPEX/POSEIDON and ERS-2 data,showing high quality of the model performance.

The computer model for near shore wave propagation,SWAN,was used to study wave climates in Liverpool Bay,northwest England with various input parameters,including bottom friction factor,white capping,wind drag formulation and effects of tidal *** were compared with in-situ measurements and reveal the impacts from these inputs on the predictions of wave height and propagation *** particular,the model results were found very sensitive to different input formulations,and tend to underestimate the wave parameters under storm conditions in comparison with the *** is therefore important to further validate the model against detailed field measurements,particularly under large storms that are often of the primary concern.

Three-dimensional ( 3-D) directional wave focusing is one of the mechanisms that contribute to the generation of freak waves. To simulate and analyze this phenomenon,a 3-D wave focusing model is proposed based on the enhanced high-order spectral method,which solves the fully nonlinear potential flow equations with a free surface within periodic unbounded 3-D domains. The numerical model is validated against a fifth-order Stokes solution for regular waves. Laboratory-scale freak waves are observed with wave components having equal amplitudes. Investigations of the appearance and propagation of freak-wave events in a 3-D open wavefield defined by a directional wave spectrum are then realized.

Worldwaves is a global wave and wind climate package developed through EU and industry sponsorship over many years. The offshore data incorporates global hindcast and operational wave and wind data from ECMWF. validated and calibratcd with independent satellite and buoy data worldwide. This paper reports on the construction of global, regional and high precision offshore and nearshore wave energy resource and variability maps using the Worldwaves database. Areas exhibiting a stable energy-rich wave climate are pinpointed as are areas with a favourable ratio of extreme to mean annual wave power density, a rough indicator of the economic potential of a site. Use of shallow water models such as SWAN together with short-term in-situ wave measurements （buoys） is generally needed at the feasibility stage for a wave farm. At the pre-feasibility stage, the nearshore mapping of coastal wave energy resources is often required over larger areas and full SWAN modelling is then usually too expensive. An alternative, utilising the offshore Worldwaves data together with nearshore satellite observations is a cost-effective alternative in some cases. This method is described and validated against nearshore buoy data on the US West Coast.
