This study makes an attempt to investigate through statistical analysis the correlation between changes in ice volume and area of glaciers. Using data from nine sample glaciers in the Tian Shan, the results show that a linear relation exists between changes in ice volume and area, with a correlation coefficient of 0.700. However, the accuracy estimation is difficult due to the limited number of samples. The correlation was not improved after adding eleven glacier samples in other mountains. Two reference glaciers are then analyzed in more detail. The linear correlation coefficient is higher than 0.800 when using the observed changes in ice volume and area during different periods on Urumqi Glacier No. 1, which suggests that the linear relation is valid for one glacier for different periods if its shape does not change noticeably and also for other glaciers of the same shape during the same period. The relation between changes in ice volume and area of Qingbingtan Glacier No. 72 is different during different periods due to change in the shape of the glacier tongue and the influence of the debris cover. Moreover, errors in glacier-change monitoring and-volume estimation have an important influence on the correlation results. Therefore, further study needs to focus not only on the distinction between glacier types and between different periods but also on the accuracy of volume estimation.

Objective To observe the sensitivity of stroke volume variation(SVV) for assessing volume change during induction period of general anesthesia. Methods Patients who underwent orthopaedic surgery under general anesthesia and mechanical ventilation were divided into two groups randomly. Patients in the group Ⅰwere subjected to progressive central hypovolemia and correction of hypovolemia sequentially; patients in the Group Ⅱ were exposed to hypervolemia alone. Each step was implemented after 5 minutes when the hemodynamics was stable. SVV and cardiac index(CI) were recorded, and Pearson's product-moment correlation was used to analyze correlation between SVV and CI. Results Forty patients were included in this study, 20 cases in each group. For group Ⅰ patients, SVV was increased significantly along with blood volume reduction, and changes in CI were negatively correlated with changes in SVV(r=-0.605, Pvolume; changes in CI were negatively correlated with changes in SVV(r=-0.651, Pvolume increase, SVV did not change significantly; changes in CI revealed no significant correlation with changes in SVV(r=0.067, P>0.05). Conclusion SVV is a useful indicator for hypovolemia, but not for hypervolemia.

Effects of volume weight of soil on corn growth and yield

With pot-culture method, effects of volume weight of soil on corn growth andyield had been studied. The results indicated that corn yield had shown quadratic relation with volume weight of soil,and the top yield appeared in the condition of soil volume weight of 1. 20 - 1. 30 g/cm3. Responses of leaf area, dry matter weight of aerial part, ear grain number and thousand-grain weight of corn to volume weight of soil were in keeping with that of the yield. volume weight of soil showed significant or ultra-significant linear relation with the corn root length,root diameter,root number and root dry weight.

BACKGROUND Major hepatectomies are routinely performed because they are often the only curative treatment for metastatic liver *** has been a trend to concentrate major hepatectomies in referral hospitals that perform these operations at high *** high volume referral centers are usually located in developed countries,but many patients in developing nations are not able to access these centers because of financial limitations,lack of social support and/or travel ***,local hospitals are often the only options many of these patients have for surgical treatment of metastatic liver *** is the situation in many Caribbean *** To determine the clinical outcomes after major liver resections in a low-resource hepatobiliary center in the *** We prospectively studied all patients who underwent major liver resections over five *** following data were extracted:patient demographics,diagnoses,ECOG status,operation performed,post-operative morbidity and *** analyses were performed using SPSS ver 16.0 RESULTSThere were 69 major liver resections performed by two teams at a mean case volume of 13.8 major resections/***-nine major hepatic resections were performed for:colorectal liver metastases 40(58%),non-colorectal metastases 9(13%),hepatocellular carcinoma 8(11.6%),ruptured adenomas 4(5.8%),hilar cholangiocarcinomas 4(5.8%),hemangiomata 2(2.9%),trauma 1(1.5%) and hepatoblastoma 1(1.5%).Twenty-one patients had at least one complication,for an overall morbidity rate of 30.4%.There were minor complications in 17(24.6%)patients,major complications in 11(15.9%) patients and 4(5.8%) *** There are unique geographic,political and financial limitations to healthcare delivery in the ***,clinical outcomes are acceptable in the established,low-volume hepatobiliary centers in the Eastern Caribbean.

Objective To evaluate the relation between sperm count and ejaculatory volume. Methods Semen samples from 1 364 men were collected and ejaculate volume and sperm count were performed. Results A low correlation （11.6%） was found but statistically significant （P 〈O.O00 1） and a trend was observed to decrease in the linear regression analysis. In addition, the ejaculate volume was lower in the group with higher sperm count. Conclusion Sperm cells are diluted in the ejaculate volume, for this reason the ejaculates with more volume present less sperm count.

AIM To examine the effect of center size on survival differences between simultaneous liver kidney transplantation(SLKT) and liver transplantation alone(LTA) in SLKT-listed *** The United Network of Organ Sharing database was queried for patients ≥ 18 years of age listed for SLKT between February 2002 and December 2015. Posttransplant survival was evaluated using stratified Cox regression with interaction between transplant type(LTA vs SLKT) and center *** During the study period, 393 of 4580 patients(9%) listed for SLKT underwent a LTA. Overall mortality was higher among LTA recipients(180/393, 46%) than SLKT recipients(1107/4187, 26%). The Cox model predicted a significant survival disadvantage for patients receiving LTA vs SLKT [hazard ratio, hazard ratio(HR) = 2.85; 95%CI: 2.21, 3.66; P volume increased, with a 3% reduction(HR = 0.97; 95%CI: 0.95, 0.99; P = 0.010) for every 10 SLKs *** In conclusion, LTA is associated with increased mortality among patients listed for SLKT. This difference is modestly attenuated at more experienced centers and may explain inconsistencies between smaller-center and larger registry-wide studies comparing SLKT and LTA outcomes.
