The photodegradation （λ=365 nm） of the biomolecule vitamin b12, catalyzed by the photocatalyst TiO2 nanoparticles （NPs）, has been investigated in aqueous suspension. The photodegradation process of vitamin b12 has been monitored by means of electronic absorption （Abs）, Fourier-transform infrared （FT-IR）, and resonance Raman （RR） spectroscopies, respectively. The results show that only under UV illumination in the presence of TiO2 is there effective degradation, and the photocatalytic degradation of vitamin b12 is strongly influenced by the amount of TiO2 NPs, the pH, and the initial concentration of vitamin b12. The photocatalytic reaction kinetics of vitamin b12 conforms to a Langmuir-Hinshelwood isotherm model. Changes involving the three structural units of the carbon-metal bond C-Co, the organic corrin macrocycle combined with the benzimidazole nucleotide, and the inorganic CN in the vitamin b12 molecule during the photocatalytic degradation are also discussed.

The Interaction between vitamin b12 （VbI2） and fish sperm DNA was investigated in physiological buffer （pH 7.4） using the methylene blue （Mb） dye as a spectral probe by spetcrophotometery, viscosity measurements and cyclic voltammetry. The apparent binding constant of vitamin b12 with DNA was found to be 3.2 × 10^5 mol^-1·L. The voltammetric behavior of vitamin b12 has been investigated at glassy carbon electrode using cyclic voltammetry. Thermodynamic parameters including △H^0, △S^0 and △G^0 for the interaction between Vb12 and DNA have determined as -2.3 × 10^4, 27.54 and -3.1 × 10^4j·mol^-l·K^-1 respectively. One indication of DNA binding mode with VbI2 was the change in viscosity when a small molecule associates with DNA. The diffusion coefficients of Vb12 in the absence （D0）f and presence of DNA （D0）b was calculated as 5.04 × 10^-6 and 1.13 × 10^-6 cm^2·s^-1 respectively. The results indicated that vitamin b12 can bind to DNA and the major binding mode was intercalative binding.

vitamin b 12 is an organometallic compound with important metabolic derivatives that act as cofactors of certain enzymes,which have been grouped into three subfamilies depending on their *** them,methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MCM) has been extensively *** enzyme catalyzes the reversible isomerization of L-methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA using adenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl) as a cofactor participating in the generation of radicals that allow isomerization of the *** crystal structure of MCM determined in Propionibacterium freudenreichii *** has helped to elucidate the role of this cofactor AdoCbl in the reaction to specify the mechanism by which radicals are generated from the coenzyme and to clarify the interactions between the enzyme,coenzyme,and *** existence of human methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) due to the presence of mutations in MCM shows the importance of its role in *** recent crystallization of the human MCM has shown that despite being similar to the bacterial protein,there are significant differences in the structural organization of the two *** studies have identified the involvement of an accessory protein called MMAA,which interacts with MCM to prevent MCM's inactivation or acts as a chaperone to promote regeneration of inactivated *** interdisciplinary studies using this protein as a model in different organisms have helped to elucidate the mechanism of action of this isomerase,the impact of mutations at a functional level and their repercussion in the development and progression of MMA in *** is still necessary to study the mechanisms involved in more detail using new methods.

Neuritis of lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh, also called meralgia paresthetica, is a commonly encountered disease in clinical practice. The author has treated 28 cases of meralgia paresthetica since 1996 by acupuncture plus point-injection with satisfactory results. A report follows.Clinical Data Among the 28 cases, 13 were male and 15 female. Their age ranged from 24 to 72 years, most of the patients being 35 to 50 years; the duration of illness varied from one month to ten years and 6 cases were affected on left side, 8 cases on right side and 14 cases on both sides.

From January 1993 to December 1996, we treated 482 cases of cervical spondylopathy with a combined method of point-injection and needle-warming via moxibustion. Except for the cases of sympathetic nerve type and spinal cord type, the combined method was superior to traction therapy in the control group and reported as follows.Clinical DataThe Criteria of Diagnosis and Curative Effect in TCM issued by the State Administrative bureau of TCM and Pharmacy in 1994 was adopted for the enrollment of patients of cervical spondylopathy and the pathological typing. Only the patients who had completed the treatment and with complete records were collected for analysis.
