virtual inertia Estimation Method of DFIG-based Wind Farm with Additional Frequency Control

With the increasing penetration of wind power,using wind turbines to participate in the frequency regulation to support power system has become a clear consensus.To accurately quantify the inertia provided by the doubly-fed induction generator(DFIG)based wind farm,the frequency response model of DFIG with additional frequency control is established,and then by using Routh approximation,the explicit expression of the virtual moment of inertia is derived for the DFIG gridconnected system.To further enhance the availability of the expression,an estimation method is proposed based on the matrix pencil method and the least squares algorithm for estimating the virtual moment of inertia provided by the wind farm.Finally,numerical results tested by a DFIG grid-connected system and a modified IEEE 30-bus system verify the derived expression of the virtual moment of inertia and the proposed estimation method.

virtual moment of inertia control can effectively improve the frequency response performance of high proportion wind power,but it still has some limitations.The reason is that the rotor kinetic energy provided by the Wind turbine is very limited.When the rotor speed drops to a certain limit,the Wind turbine will exit the frequency modulation and resume the speed.Because of the uncertainty of wind output,there is still a certain probability that the system will produce a secondary frequency drop.To solve these problems,this paper proposes a coordinated control strategy of wind storage,that is,adding liquid flow battery to the grid side of the wind farm to supplement the rotor kinetic energy of the unstable wind turbine,so as to ensure the stability of the wind turbine.In order to maximize the moment of inertia of Wind turbine rotor,PSCAD/EMTDC is used to establish the optimal simulation model of wind storage joint system.The simulation results show that the control strategy proposed in this paper is effective:the frequency drop problem caused by the extraction of rotor kinetic energy can be significantly improved,and then the frequency support ability of high proportion wind power grid connected system can be improved,which verifies the feasibility of wind farm configuration and energy storage.
