Objective:To assess the attitude and willingness of medical students of the Faculty of Medicine,University of Jaffna,regarding gamete donation.Methods:An institutional-based descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine,University of Jaffna,from September 2022 to May 2023 among undergraduate medical students who gave their voluntary participation.A self-administered questionnaire was used as a study instrument to collect data regarding their attitude and willingness toward gamete donation.Results:A total of 345 participants were recruited and their sociodemographic data revealed that 56.8%of the participants were female,62.3%aged between 26 and 30 years,and 92.2%were unmarried.Many of them received information regarding gamete donations during their clinical appointments.Over half(67.8%)of them showed a negative attitude towards gamete donation.Regarding willingness,only 39.7%of participants had a positive approach for being a gamete donor;among them,84.7%preferred anonymous donations.Religion and ethnicity had a significant influence on their attitudes and willingness.In addition,male was also found to be more willing to donate gametes.Conclusions:Most medical students have negative views about gamete donation.Imparting awareness and knowledge of assisted reproductive technology and gamete donation within medical students'sociocultural and ethical backgrounds might facilitate a change in attitude towards gamete donation amongst future medical practitioners.

This paper presents a novel movement planning algorithm for a guard robot in an indoor environment, imitating the job of human security. A movement planner is employed by the guard robot to continuously observe a certain person. This problem can be distinguished from the person following problem which continuously follows the object. Instead, the movement planner aims to reduce the movement and the energy while keeping the target person under its visibility. The proposed algorithm exploits the topological features of the environment to obtain a set of viewpoint candidates, and it is then optimized by a cost-based set covering problem. Both the robot and the target person are modeled using geodesic motion model which considers the environment shape. Subsequently, a particle model-based planner is employed, considering the chance constraints over the robot visibility, to choose an optimal action for the robot. Simulation results using 3D simulator and experiments on a real environment are provided to show the feasibility and effectiveness of our algorithm.

The role of bridging locoregional therapy(LRT)for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)within Milan criteria before liver transplantation(LT)has been controversial.Recently,Agopian et al.(1)retrospectively investigated the impact of bridging LRT on post-LT HCC recurrence and survival based on 3,601 patients undergoing LT from 2002 to 2013,collected in the US Multicenter HCC Transplant Consortium.They observed no significant differences in the recurrence-free survival(RFS)among patients not receiving RT and the type and combination of treatment modality[transarterial chemoembolization(TACE),thermal ablation(radiofrequency or microwave ablation),and others]used.The increasing number of LRT and the dynamic serum alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)changes were correlated with a higher risk of HCC recurrence.The authors concluded that LRT improved survival only in the subset of patients who achieved complete pathologic response(cPR)with a superior 5-year RFS of 72%compared to both untreated patients(69%;P=0.01)and LRT-treated patients not achieving cPR(67%;P=0.01).Admittedly,this is a benchmark study,and the authors should be congratulated on undertaking a sophisticated analysis in a large,heterogeneous cohort of patients.

Background:The assessment and management of misophonia need a team approach,and audiologists are essential team members.However,the role of an audiologist in this condition is not well understood,and there is a lack of awareness even among professionals about their role in the assessment and management of misophonia.Purpose:The main aim of our study is to document the present level of awareness and knowledge about misophonia assessment and management among audiologists in India.Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out among audiologists from all over India.Descriptive statistical procedures were measured based on the type of questions being addressed,and a non-parametric chi-square test was done to see the association among variables.Results:The results show a lack of knowledge about misophonia even among audiologists,as only 15.3%of the audiologist reported being confident in handling cases with misophonia.Conclusion:Although the exact assessment and management of misophonia is still the topic of debate,it is clear that audiologists are the team's key members.However,the results clearly show a lack of confidence in handling cases of misophonia among audiologists in India.This result shows the future need for Research in misophonia from an audiological perspective.

Compared with linear causality,nonlinear causality has more complex characteristics and content.In this paper,we discuss certain issues related to nonlinear causality with an emphasis on the concept of causality field.Based on widely used computation models and methods,we present some viewpoints and opinions on the analysis and computation of nonlinear causality and the identification problem of causality fields.We also reveal the importance and practical significance of nonlinear causality in handling complex causal inference problems via several specific examples.

This paper presents an analysis on how objectivity is discursively constructed in journalistic narratives by drawing on the theories of viewpoint and mental space in Cognitive Linguistics. It is posited that at least three mental spaces are projected by a narrative discourse, i.e., a narrated event space, a narrating space, and a basic space, and the distance between the first two spaces determines the degree of objectivity in the narrative discourse. A schema which represents the configuration of the different spaces is proposed and applied in the analysis of journalistic narratives to explore the strategies of objectivity construction. The analysis reveals that what the different journalistic narratives have in common in the construction of objectivity is to distance the narrated event space and the narrating space with the former being foregrounded in the viewpoint arrangement.

What is the essence of translating activities?Up to now,many scholars or translators have conducted this study.This thesis aims to study the essence of translating activities from a new perspective—Marxism’s Practice viewpoint.Translating is a kind of language activity of reproduction,using another language to retell the content of the original accurately and completely.The author also makes his comments on the debate as to whether translating is a science or an art.The conclusion is that translating is neither an art nor a science.It is an activity marked by artistic creativity and scientific creativity,a scientific and artistic unity.
