This research paper assesses the effect of seasonal variation on mycorrhizal fungi. Based on the richness of medicinal plants in Himalayan region, this research work considered three medicinal plants i.e. Catharanthus roseus Linn., Ocimum spp. and Asparagus racemosus Willd. The study was conducted at five districts of Uttarakhand state of India viz. Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar, Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Almora. To account for seasonal variations, soil and root samples were collected in months of Jan-Feb, May-June and Sep-Oct from year 2006 to 2008. Furthermore, the study was directed to collect information about the distribution of VAM fungi in the medicinal plants in relation to spore population. This research work evaluated and analyzed the effect of temperature, altitude and seasonal conditions. The undisturbed natural vegetations revealed maximum spore numbers followed by cultivated and non-cultivated regions. Similarly, root colonization by VAM fungi was observed at higher levels in natural vegetations and cultivated sites in comparison to non-cultivated lands. The monthly and seasonal temperature varied and had considerable effect on VAM fungal population. The data obtained in the present study undoubtedly indicate that the sea-sonal variation in VAM fungi is significant with few exceptions. VAM fungi in medicinal plants differ in the manner and extent with which root colonization rate occurs and also differ in their capacity to form propagules. Most of the study reveals that host plant had much more effect on spore population. Number of spores also varied with the growing season of the host plant. During the present study most of the sites showed a general increase in spore number from Sep-Oct to Jan-Feb.

A number of transmembrane receptors are targeted to the nucleus and convincingly localized therein. However, what remains a conundrum is how these cell-surface receptors end up in the nucleus. In this study, we reported that the transmembrane receptor phosphorylated TrkA was located in a series of carrier vesicles, including ring-like vesicles near the plasma membrane, large core vesicles and small dense core vesicles around the nuclei, as well as in the nucleus in human glioma cell line U251 using immunocytochemistry and immunofluorescence staining. Meanwhile, we also showed that small dense core vesicles budded from large core vesicles, and interacted with the nuclear envelope. Accordingly, our results suggested that such a series of membrane compartments might be involved in the pathway of nuclear translocation of the transmembrane receptor TrkA.

Potential of Sunflower to Extract Heavy Metals from Leachate

The effectiveness of sunflower to extract harmful heavy metals from landfill leachate using phytoremediation technique was studied in this paper. A case study of Phursungi garbage dump yard located in Phursungi village in Pune, India was taken for this study as the residents have to deal with contaminated water throughout the year which induces diseases like dysentery, cholera, hepatitis, and heavy metal poisoning related diseases. There are various methods in phytoremediation, among which phytoextraction was used for this study. An experiment was carried out to test the removal efficiency of BOD, COD, TS, and heavy metals namely As, Hg and Pb from the soil by sunflowers with and without the addition of vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi. These fungi were used in soil to accelerate the process of extraction. Leachate diluted with 60% water was supplied such that the Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) was more than 15 days (19 days achieved). The values of contaminants were checked for permissible limits according to standards for land disposal of treated leachates given in Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSW) rules, 2016 and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), India. The removal efficiency of Pb from soil was almost the same for plants supplied with VAM (67.92%) and plants without VAM (66.67%). Arsenic (As) removal efficiency was 100% for plants with and without VAM. For mercury (Hg), it was more for plants without VAM (96.29%) than plants with VAM (77.78). Thus, it was concluded that VAM was ineffective. Cd and Cr concentrations in leachate samples were observed to be within the permissible limits. Hence, they were discarded for calculation of removal efficiency.

The synthesis of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-derived transport vesicles is dictated by the contents and derivation of the cellular cytosol. The ER transport vesicles synthesized in the presence of gastric epithelial cells cytosol are destined for en bloc fusion with apical epithelial membrane, whereas those generated in hepa-tocytes-derived cytosol are destined for en bloc fusion with basolateral membrane. Moreover, during assembly of the dominant fraction of the apical or basolateral transport vesicles, a sub-stantial fraction of the vesicles is produced that fuses with endosomes, and the vesicles with still unknown destination that remain in cytosol. The process of ER vesicles synthesis is blocked by RNase treatment, whereas Golgi vesicles as-sembly is not affected. The experiments indicate that transport vesicles’ membrane composition and fidelity of its construction is defined in ER. The process involves synchronous membrane lipid synthesis, cotranslational intercalation of integral membrane proteins and containment of the vesicular cargo.

Herpes zoster is caused by reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus that resides in a dorsal root ganglion. Herpes zoster can develop at any time after a primary infection or varicella vaccination. The incidence among children is approximately 110 per 100,000 person-years. Clinically, herpes zoster is characterized by a painful, unilateral vesicular eruption in a restricted dermatomal distribution. In young children, herpes zoster has a predilection for areas supplied by the cervical and sacral dermatomes. Herpes zoster tends to be milder in children than that in adults. Also, vaccine-associated herpes zoster is milder than herpes zoster after wild-type varicella. The diagnosis of herpes zoster is mainly made clinically, based on a distinct clinical appearance. The most common complications are secondary bacterial infection, depigmentation, and scarring. Chickenpox may develop in susceptible individuals exposed to herpes zoster. Oral acyclovir should be considered for uncomplicated herpes zoster in immunocompetent children. Intravenous acyclovir is the treatment of choice for immunocompromised children who are at risk for disseminated disease. The medication should be administered ideally within 72 hours of rash onset.

AIM:To investigate the activity of vesicular glutamate transporter-3(VGLUT3) in a visceral hyperalgesia rat model of irritable bowel syndrome,and the role of mast cells(MCs).METHODS:Transient intestinal infection was inducedby oral administration of Trichinella spiralis larvae in *** the 100th day post-infection(PI),the rats were divided into an acute cold restraint stress(ACRS)group and a non-stressed ***-matched untreated rats served as *** abdominal withdrawal reflex was used to measure the visceromotor response to colorectal distension(CRD).The expression levels of VGLUT3 in peripheral and central neurons were analyzed by immunofluorescence and western ***:VGLUT3 expression in the L6S1 dorsal root ganglion cells was significantly higher in the PI group than in the control group(0.32±0.009 vs0.22±0.008,P<0.01),and there was no significant difference in the expression of VGLUT3 between MCdeficient rats and their normal wild-type *** showed that the expression levels of VGLUT3 in PI+ACRS rats were enhanced in the prefrontal cortex of the brain compared with the control ***:VGLUT3 is involved in the pathogenesis of visceral *** of c-fos,5-hydroxytryptamine and VGLUT3 after CRD was observed in associated neuronal *** VGLUT3 induced by transient intestinal infection was found in peripheral nerves,and was independent of ***,the expression of VGLUT3 was enhanced in the prefrontal cortex in rats with induced infection and stress.
