Influences of Post-fires on Subsequent Population of Japanese Pine Sawyer Beetles, Monochamus alternatus Hope (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in Masson Pine Forests

[Objective]Both fire and insect outbreaks are considered as important natural disturbance factors in many forest ecosystems,yet few studies have addressed the effects of fires on subsequent insect outbreaks.[Method]In this paper,tree mortality,larval density and vertical distribution were measured through field investigation and sampling method to evaluate the short-term response of Japanese pine sawyer beetle,Monochamus alternatus Hope to Masson pine,Pinus massoniana *** the second year after the fire in Jiangxi Province,China.[Results]compared with unburned Masson pine forest,burned Masson pine forest suffered from higher tree mortality and more pine trees were attacked by *** Masson pine tended to harbor much higher larval density further up along the trunk than unburned pine trees,and most individuals distributed in the middle section and middle-lower section of the trunk.[Significance]The results confirmed that Masson pine forest after being damaged by non-lethal fires were more susceptible to attacks by Japanese pine sawyer beetles,displaying higher population density and higher vertical distribution *** study will provide an important guideline for the managers of Masson pine forests suffering from fires and pest invaded areas.

The Hydromedusae and its distribution in Chukchi Sea and adjacent southern edge waters of Canada Basin, Arctic Ocean

The present paper is based on materials collected in Chukchi Sea and adjacent southern edge waters of Canada Basin, Arctic Ocean during the period from July to August 1999 on the icebreaker, the R/V “Xuelong”, by the Chinese First Arctic Scientific Expedition. Totally, 8 species of pelagic Hydromedusae were identified, of which 4 species belonged to Anthomedusae, 2 species to Leptomedusae, 1 species to Trachymedusae and 1 species to Narcomedusae, the Neoturris breviconis is recorded for the first time in Chukchi Sea. Their principal morphological characteristics are described and illustrated. The 8 species of Hydromedusae occurring in the Chukchi Sea were all cold water species, of which 6 species belong to neritic species and 2 species to ocean species. According to the geographic distribution of species, they may be divided into three groups: Arctic species, Arctic-boreal species and Boreal-temperate species. From the view-point of zoogeography, species from these waters belong to the Arctic *** abundance of Hydromedusae in Chukchi Sea was generally low, with a mean value of 108 ind.*10-2*m-3. Rathkea octopunctata and Aglantha digitale were dominant species. From the view-point of vertical distribution Aglantha digitale is inhabiting in the depth of 0 300 m and with the maximum in the depth of 50 m to 100 m.

Dinoflagellate Cysts Records from Core Samples of Modern Marine Sediment at the Luoyuan Bay Mouth

Thirty species of dinoflagellate cysts in 15 genus are identified from KMZK5 Core samples of recent marine sediment at the Luoyuan Bay mouth, Fujian. All of these dinoflagellate cysts are first recorded in the Luyuan Bay, 12 species of them are not distributing in the near sea area such as Sansha Bay and Minjiang estuary, including 6 kinds of toxic species, such as Alexandrium affine, A. minutum, A. tamarense, Gonyaulax spinifera, Gymnodinium catenatum and Scrippsiella trochoidea. The abundance and vertical distribution characterestics of the main and the toxic dinoflgellate cysts are also studied in the paper.

vertically-resolved indoor measurements of air pollution during Chinese cooking

Chinese cooking features several unique processes,e.g.,stir-frying and pan-frying,which represent important sources of household air ***,factors affecting household air pollution and the vertical variations of indoor pollutants during Chinese cooking are less ***,using low-cost sensors with high time resolutions,we measured concentrations of five gas species and particulate matter(PM)in three different sizes at multiple heights in a kitchen during eighteen different Chinese cooking *** found indoor gas species were elevated by 21%-106%during cooking,compared to the background,and PMs were elevated by 44%-159%.vertically,the pollutants concentrations were highly variable during cooking *** species generally showed a monotonic increase with height,while PMs changed more diversely depending on the cooking activity's *** cooking,e.g.,stir-frying,pan-frying,or cooking on high heat,tended to shoot PMs to the upper layers,while moderate ones left PMs within the breathing *** with different heights would be subject to different levels of household air pollution exposure during *** high vertical variability challenges the current indoor standard that presumes a uniform pollution level within the breathing zone and thus has important implications for public health and policy making.

Despite extensive studies into characterization of particle number size distributions at ground level, real-time measurements above the urban canopy in the megacity of Beijing has never been performed to *** we conducted the first simultaneous measurements of size-resolved particle number concentrations at ground level and 260 m in urban Beijing from 22 August to 30 *** results showed overall similar temporal variations in number size distributions between ground level and 260 m, yet periods with significant differences were also ***, accumulation mode particles were highly correlated(r = 0.85) at the two heights while Aitken mode particles presented more *** analysis suggests that the vertical differences in number concentrations strongly depended on particle size, and particles with mobility diameter between 100 – 200 nm generally showed higher concentrations at higher *** growth rates and condensation sinks were also calculated which were 3.2 and 3.6 nm h, and 2.8×10 and 2.9×10 s, at ground level and 260 m, *** linking particle growth with aerosol composition, we found that organics appeared to play an important role in the early stage of the growth(9:00 – 12:00) while sulfate was also important during the later *** matrix factorization of size-resolved number concentrations identified three common sources at ground level and 260 m including a factor associated with new particle formation and growth events(NPE), and two secondary factors that represent photochemical processing and regional transport, *** emission was found to have a large contribution to small particles, and showed much higher concentration at ground level than 260 m at dinner *** result has significant implications that investigation of NPE at ground level in megacities needs to consider the influences of local cooking *** impacts of regional emission controls on particle nu

卧龙自然保护区位于东经102°52′—103°24′,北纬30°45′—31°25′。据1980—1983年的调查材料,该自然保护区的天牛共有45属、73种,其中,东洋种47种,占64.4％;古北种10种,占13.7％;广布种5种,占6.8％;特有种11种,占15.1％。从区系组成上看,这个地区似位于东洋区与古北区的过渡带上,并且有靠近东洋区的趋势。高道蓉等(1981)在对峨嵋山(东经103°20′,北纬29°31′)白蚁区系的研究中也认为,峨嵋山位于这条过渡带上。然而,这两个地区的地带性植被、气侯和昆虫组成都与古北区迥然不同,而且,这两个地区的古北种都分布在高海投带上。因此,卧龙自然保护区应属东洋区;昆虫的地理区划主要应以地带性植被、气侯和昆虫组成为依据。卧龙天牛的垂直分布可分为四个带:(1)亚热带常绿阔叶林带(海拔1120—1600米);(2)常绿、落叶阔叶混交林带(海拔1600—2000米);(3)针、阔叶混交林带(海拔2000—2600米);(4)亚高山针叶林带(海拔2600—3600米)。第1带(基带)东洋种占88.9％,没有古北种;第2带东洋种占50％,古北种占14.3％;第3带东洋种占44.4％,古北种占33.3％;第4带全部为古北种。与中国东部的植被相似,天牛分布每向上移一个垂直带,其成员在水平上也向北移一个带。研究结果还表明,在水平方向分布广的种类在垂直方向也表现

Vascular epiphytes are one of the most important forest components,contributing to microclimatic *** plants find ideal conditions for development in the Amazon due to the spatial heterogeneity and high temperature and humidity typical of this *** recent years,the Brazilian Amazon has undergone dramatic changes in its landscape,mainly due to the increase in deforestation and fire *** present here the floristic composition and analyze the community structure of epiphytic angiosperms of an urban forest fragment in Eastern Amazon.A total of 71 epiphytic individuals were recorded belonging to eight species and four *** was the most representative family,corroborating the pattern for surveys of epiphytic diversity in the Neotropical *** species were found on 24 individuals of 10 tree *** epiphytic importance value(IVe)was low for all species,except for Aechmea tocantina and Rhipsalis *** was the family with the highest *** epiphytes were found in the crown of trees(83.1%).The diversity index of the fragment was H’=1.80 and the equity index was J=0.87,reflecting the absence of highly dominant *** of urban forest fragments is necessary for the maintenance of epiphytic flora and ecosystem services.
