Purpose:This comparative study identifies core values expressed in Early Childhood Education(ECE)official policy documents from a sample of thirteen countries.Design/Approach/Methods:This study employs document analysis as well as content and thematic analysis.ECE values identified in the policy documents are categorized into three groups:political and society-related values,educational values,and individual and relational values.Findings:Document analysis reveals the values that are common across countries and those that are more specific to just one or a few countries at most.This study discusses the characteristics of these values from the perspective of globalization.In doing so,this comparative study llustrates and discusses the tendencies for both convergence and divergence in ECE values in policymaking worldwide.

The concept of missing data is important to apply statistical methods on the dataset. Statisticians and researchers may end up to an inaccurate illation about the data if the missing data are not handled properly. Of late, Python and R provide diverse packages for handling missing data. In this study, an imputation algorithm, cumulative linear regression, is proposed. The proposed algorithm depends on the linear regression technique. It differs from the existing methods, in that it cumulates the imputed variables;those variables will be incorporated in the linear regression equation to filling in the missing values in the next incomplete variable. The author performed a comparative study of the proposed method and those packages. The performance was measured in terms of imputation time, root-mean-square error, mean absolute error, and coefficient of determination (R^2). On analysing on five datasets with different missing values generated from different mechanisms, it was observed that the performances vary depending on the size, missing percentage, and the missingness mechanism. The results showed that the performance of the proposed method is slightly better.

Background: Lack of available reference values in a research setting under local conditions can be a drawback for beginners, as the accuracy of data from control samples cannot be checked at the beginning of a research project. This affects comparisons with data from test samples. To avoid these complications in their research projects,beginners tend to have a greater number of animals in the control group compared to test groups in order to have control group measurements within 2 SDs of the mean.Methods: As non-availability of reference values was a long-felt need, the described project was conducted in order to establish a reference database for selected haematological, biochemical and physiological parameters using apparently healthy Sprague-Dawley rats bred in the Animal House of Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo(UCFM).Results: Differences in mean values of packed cell volume(PCV), mean corpuscular volume(MCV) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration(MCHC), serum creatinine and blood glucose levels between the two genders were statistically significant. Lipid profile measurements did not differ significantly between genders, but mean and median values of triglycerides(TG) between male and female rats showed a difference of more than 10 mg/dL. The liver enzymes alkaline phosphatase(AP)and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) were also statistically significantly different between sexes. Despite wide variation in mean alanine aminotransferase(ALT)between sexes, the difference was not statistically significant.Conclusion: The findings of this project should support to a certain extent the"Reduction" aspect of the 3 Rs concept of Russell and Burch by reducing the number of Sprague-Dawley rats used in future research projects at UCFM.

Objecive:To screen the fatty acid(FA) composition of 20 marine microalgae species,including seven Diophyceae,six Bacillariophyeae four Chlorophyceae,two Haptophyceae and one Raphidophyceae species.Methods:Microalgal cells cultured at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology were harvested during the late exponential growth phase and the FA composition analyzed.Results:The FA composition of microalgae was speciesspecific.For example,seven different species of Dinophyceae were composed primarily of C14:0,C16:0.C18:0.C20:4n-6.C20:5n-3 and C22:6n-3.while C14:0.C16:0,C16:1.C18:0.C20:5n-3 and C22:6n-3 were abundant FAs in six species of Bacillariophyceae.In addition,four Chlurophyceae,two Haptopkyeeae and one Raphidophyceae species all contained a high degree of C16:1 n-7[(9.2R-34.91)%and(34.48-35.04)%].C14:0[(13.34-25.96)%]and[(26.69-Z8.24)%],and C16:0[(5.89-29.15)%]and[(5.70-16.81)%].Several factors contribute to the nutritional value of microalgae.including the polyunsaturated FA content and n-3 to n-6 FA ratio,which could be used to assess the nutritional quality of microalgae.Conclusions:This study is the first comprehensive assessment of the FA composition and nutritional value of microalgae species in South Korea,and identifies the potential utility of FAs as species-specific biomarkers.

Objective: To determine the endemic values of cutaneous leishmaniasis in different cities of Fars province, Iran. Methods: Totally, 29 201 cases registered from 2010 to 2015 in Iranian Fars province were selected, and the endemic values of cutaneous leishmaniasis were determined by retrospective clusters derived from spatiotemporal permutation modeling on a time-series design. The accuracy of the values was assessed using receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve. SPSS version 22, Arc GIS, and ITSM 2002 software tools were used for analysis. Results: Nine statistically significant retrospective clusters(Pvalues(Pvalues which are essential for future prediction and prevention policies in the area.

Purpose:The purpose of this paper is to explore whether the four value alignment strategies available to educators(Scaffolding,Balancing,Intervention,and Refuge)previously identified in the mathematics education literature comprehensively capture educator value alignment strategies in an in terve ntion con text.Design/Approach/Methods:To this end,we analyse semi-structured interview data with two teacher-leaders involved in the Getting Ready in Numeracy(G.R.I.N.)intervention program through a value alignment lens.Findings:We ascertain that a fifth strategy,the Beacon strategy,is needed to describe the range of value alignment strategies employed by educators in the GRI.N.program.The Beacon strategy involves the educator digging in and reasserting their expectations until the student behaves in a manner that aligns with the educator's values.In part it invoIves the educator being able to recognize their own values and clearly communicating these values to students.O rigin al ity/Value:This article further explores strategies that educators have at their disposal for aligning their values with those of their students.The uncovering of the Beacon strategy is particularly valuable as it suggests that educators could be purposefully pursuing value alignment even when they do not appear to take any active steps to move further towards their students'sets of values.

It is obvious that the value of American culture has influence on social development. Its action and function values can effectively boot the formation of a new trend to develop culture schools. On the contrary,abusively considering the values to dominate decisively the society’s development will restrain the overall development of American culture schools undoubtedly. Hence,in order to study the factors of values influencing on restraint of development of culture schools in America,the paper mainly goes about from the three aspects of freedom value,social value and ideological value with conclusions that value restraint on American culture schools is deucedly emphasized,and a sound direction should be established to steer the American culture schools to form along.

Shadow removal has evolved as a preprocessing step for various computer vision tasks.Several studies have been carried out over the past two decades to eliminate shadows from videos and images. Accurate shadow detection is an open problem because it is often considered difficult to interpret whether the darkness of a surface is contributed by a shadow incident on it or not. This paper introduces a color-model based technique to remove shadows from images. We formulate shadow removal as an optimization problem that minimizes the dissimilarities between a shadow area and its non-shadow counterpart.To achieve this, we map each shadow region to a set of non-shadow pixels, and compute an anchor value from the non-shadow pixels. The shadow region is then modified using a factor computed from the anchor value using particle swarm optimization. We demonstrate the efficiency of our technique on indoor shadows, outdoor shadows, soft shadows, and document shadows, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
