Two Main Linguistic and Semantic Approach in Islamic Theologoical Tradition

Theology is one of the main areas in which linguistics and semantics take up a significant space. The same issue also appears in the Islamic theological works known ＂kalam＂. There are two main semantical approaches regarding the theological doctrines in the Islamic thought. However the theological reasons are the primary aims in these semantical works, but they include serious philosophical and linguistic content. One of them is the main Islamic strand （orthodox Islam） represented by some astonishing Islamic scholars such as Ici, Guwaini, Sahristani, Ghazali, and Razi. According to this tradition, meaning is an inner state and a state of mind which is specified by the intent of the interlocutor or the author. The utterances have only an instrumentel role in speech. This approach can also be compared to the primary semantic view ranging from Aristotele to P. Grice---with some variations in the Western philosophical tradition. The second thesis is argued by the Mu＇tazili sect who are called Islamic rationalists that objected to Ahl us-Sunnah in their prominent ideas. From Mu＇tazila＇s point of view meaning should only be looked for among linguistic facts. There is no intentional content in the mind before the utterances. Meaning is produced within the structure of language itself and the conventional social context. In other words, meaning is nothing but the usage of the language, These two approaches also mean that there is going to arise different forms of interpretation in the theological perception. The aforementioned approach carries similarities with the approaches of Western thinkers like Wittgenstein and his followers. In this paper, the author deal with these two theological approaches by focusing on their linguistic and semantic views and comparing them with some modem western theories.

The present paper aims to examine the occurrence of I think in different genres.A collected data of I think from graduate student research interview and objectivism group study within Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English(MICASE)is *** quantitative and qualitative analyses are included and the selection tool Antconc 3.4.4 are adopted in the *** using concordance,all the context including I think are ***,some phrases(such as I think so,what I think,I think of,etc.)are deleted from the *** is found that I think in different positions and with different collocations fulfill different pragmatic functions *** phrase I think is very frequent in GSRI and OSG,which is due to the nature of the discourse,where the participants are engaged in the *** the perspective of syntax and collocation,a lot of examples are analyzed in *** is found that the interpretation of I think cannot be reached without exploring its linguistic *** addition,a more detailed observation of linguistic context of I think in OSG and GSRI is *** epistemic certainty(certainly,really,etc.)are included in research interview,with the function of emphasis and *** study might help to reconsider the functions of I think in different genres.

This paper offers a reflection on the essential characteristics and conditions of communication, hence on what makes communication possible. Reflection on communication inevitably calls for a focus on the production of meaning and understanding, on the problem of interpretation. The primary vocation of communication is the other, therefore dialogic listening and responsiveness by the other for the other, beyond communication with the same, that is, beyond the conventions of official communication and the order of discourse. The paper is developed according to the following main topics: 1. utterance, text, interpretation; 2. The apparent paradox of communication; 3. The "rustle" of communication: between implicit meaning and explicit meaning; 4. Sense, significance, ambiguity: reading together Welby and Bakhtin; 5. More characteristics of live discourse—silence, listening, responsive understanding.

Relevance theory is a research field of pragmatics in linguistics. It is a new type of interpersonal communication theorybased on the general perspective of cognition. Based on the interpretation of relevance theory, this paper explores whether utteranceis related to speakers and recipients simultaneously. As the latest theory of interpretation of verbal communication, this paper ex-pounds the progressive significance of the communicative concept of relevance theory and fully demonstrates the explanatory powerof the theory to the two types of communication by means of utterance coding/decoding and modern pragmatic meaning, utteranceinterpretation, relevance principle and case analysis. It also proposes ways to help solve the rhetorical dilemma and modern prag-matic practice. For both native language and foreign language, it is a very noteworthy theory of verbal communication.
