Themed"Better Sub-Regional and urban Development from the Perspective of the Belt and Road Initiative,"the 2023 Annual Conference of the International urban Planning Branch of the urban Planning Society of China(UPSC)was successfully held in Kunming from Jun.23 to 25,2023.The conference,organized by the International urban Planning Branch and hosted by the School of Architecture and Planning,Yunnan University,coincided with the 1ou anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative.Thus it aimed to share new insights and practices related to sub-regional cooperation,sustainable development,global industrial restructuring,urban vitality,cross-border cultural exchanges,and more,both in China and internationally.Furthermore,the conference presented in-depth research and analysis on the strategic advantages of the Belt and Road Initiative and held dialogues and case studies on high-quality sub-regional and urban development worldwide.The goal was to provide innovative perspectives for China to implement high-quality cross-border collaboration under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.The keynote speeches given at the conference have been collected by China City Planning Review and meticulously proofread by the respective speaker.

Stroke is characterised by high mortality and disability rate in China.This study aimed to explore the temporal trends in years of life lost(YLL)and loss of life expectancy due to stroke and its subtypes in urban and rural areas in China during 2005-2020.Data were obtained from China National Mortality Surveillance System.Abbreviated life and stroke-eliminated life tables were generated to calculate loss of life expectancy.The YLL and loss of life expectancy due to stroke in urban and rural areas at both national and provincial level during 2005-2020 were estimated.In China,the age-standardised YLL rate due to stroke and its subtypes were higher in rural areas than in urban areas.The YLL rate due to stroke showed a downward trend in both urban and rural residents from 2005 to 2020,decreased by 39.9%and 21.5%,respectively.Loss of life expectancy caused by stroke decreased from 1.75 years to 1.70 years from 2005 to 2020.During which,loss of life expectancy due to intracerebral haemorrhage(ICH)decreased from 0.94 years to 0.65 years,while that of ischaemic stroke(IS)increased from 0.62 years to 0.86 years.A slightly upward trend was observed in loss of life expectancy caused by subarachnoid haemorrhage(SAH),from 0.05 years to 0.06 years.Loss of life expectancy due to ICH and SAH was always higher in rural areas than in urban areas,whereas that of IS was higher in urban areas than in rural areas.Rural males suffered the greatest loss of life expectancy due to ICH and SAH,while the highest loss of life expectancy caused by IS was found in urban females.Furthermore,Heilongjiang(2.25 years),Tibet(2.17 years)and Jilin(2.16 years)were found to have the highest loss of life expectancy caused by stroke in 2020.Loss of life expectancy caused by ICH and SAH was higher in western China,while the disease burden of IS was heavier in northeast China.Stroke remains a major public health problem in China,although the age-standardised YLL rate and loss of life expectancy due to stroke decreased.Evidence-based strategies should be co

The rapid pace of global urbanization is profoundly reshaping our planet and will have significant implicatins for global sustainable development.According to the United Nations,urbanization is projected to surge from 56%in 2020to 67%by 2050,an 11%increase.'The expanding urban population has led to the con-version of an increasing amount of natural land into urban areas.It is anticipated that by 2030,urban areas across the globe will cover approximately 587 million km2,which is double the rate of population growth.2 In general,the availability of flat land resources suitable for both production and habitation is limited,and the relentless pace of urbanization consistently encroaches upon these resources.Consequently,adopting the"slope climbing"model for urban expansion has been prevalent in numerous regions and nations as a strategy to address the conflict between urban expansion and the scarcity of flat land resources.

Extreme heat is among the deadliest of weather-related hazards,exerting far-reaching impacts on the natural environment and human society globally.Its risk has been rising worldwide over the past decades,particularly in densely populated urban settlements in which more than half the world’s population live.1,2 This rise is primarily attributed to anthropogenic greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,of which the dominant share is contributed by the Global North.1 The Global North comprises economically developed countries with higher levels of industrialization,technology,infrastructures,energy consumption,and GHG emissions(e.g.,North America and West Europe)whose cities are major emission hotspots.1 Besides,emission transfers via international trade from the Global South,encompassing countries with lower economic development and energy consumption,higher poverty,and more vulnerable infrastructures(e.g.,India and Brazil)compared with the Global North,contribute a nonnegligible share of GHGs.

Promoting market coordination and enhancing the efficiency of green growth is a necessity for China’s effective economic development.Using panel data from 2007 to 2020,this paper conducts a comprehensive study on 226 cities at the prefecture-level and above,combining theoretical analysis and empirical tests to systematically explore the impact of market cohesion on urban green total factor productivity(GTPF)and the mediating role of factor mismatch.Findings demonstrate that market coordination maximizes urban GTPF.At the mechanism level,factor mismatch plays a mediating role,and market coordination can enhance GTPF by addressing capital and labor mismatch.In terms of heterogeneity analysis,market coordination significantly promotes GTPF positively in the east-central region and negatively in the western region.In terms of technological progress and technical efficiency,the eastern region shows a larger significance than the central and western regions combined.In view of the above,the concept of market coordination development has been implemented to promote GTFP in cities.
