Effective capacity region and power allocation for two-way spectrum sharing cognitive radio networks

In this paper, we consider a spectrum sharing cognitive radio(CR) network where a pair of twoway secondary users(SUs) is allowed to coexist with a primary user(PU) as long as the interference power received at the PU is below an acceptable limit. Under the interference power constraint, we investigate the effective capacity region for two-way SUs. In particular, we derive a closed-form solution for the power allocation problem to achieve the boundary points of an inner bound on the effective capacity region. We also propose a key parameter referred to as weighted-transmission-interference-ratio(WTIR), which plays a significant role in the power allocation policy. In the proposed power allocation policy, the exclusive transmission of SUs shall be performed if one SU’s WTIR is much larger than the others. That is, the one with much larger WTIR shall be allocated non-zero power and the other one shall be allocated zero power. Otherwise, if the difference of their WTIRs is not significant, the concurrent transmission shall be performed. That is, both SUs shall be allocated non-zero power. It is shown that a loose interference power constraint leads to the concurrent transmission in most situations, while a stringent interference power constraint leads to the exclusive transmission in most situations. It is also shown that for the stringent interference power constraint and loose delay quality-of-service(Qo S) constraint, the proposed power allocation policy is almost optimal and thus the obtained inner bound on the effective capacity region is tight.

Quantum hacking of two-way continuous-variable quantum key distribution using Trojan-horse attack

We present a Trojan-horse attack on the practical two-way continuous-variable quantum key distribution system. Our attack mainly focuses on the imperfection of the practical system that the modulator has a redundancy of modulation pulsewidth, which leaves a loophole for the eavesdropper inserting a Trojan-horse pulse. Utilizing the unique characteristics of two-way continuous-variable quantum key distribution that Alice only takes modulation operation on the received mode without any measurement, this attack allows the eavesdropper to render all of the final keys shared between the legitimate parties insecure without being detected. After analyzing the feasibility of the attack, the corresponding countermeasures are put forward.

Droplet Motion and Phase Change Model with two-way Coupling

The droplet interacts intensively with surrounding gas when moving and evaporating in the gas,of which the mutual effects of the gas and the evaporating droplet need to be taken into account.For the typical droplet model,the gas parameters are usually considered as that at infinity and the local parameter variation surrounding the droplet is neglected,consequently leading to some discrepancies.This research tries to develop a new moving droplet phase change model with two-phase coupling which characterizes the local parameter variation of gas phase surrounding the evaporating droplet.Firstly,the interaction mechanism of two phases is presented based on the droplet evaporation phenomena.Then,the droplet motion and phase change model is developed through the theoretical derivation.Subsequently,the analysis of the evaporation characteristics of the injected droplets in the hot air is conducted to simulate the operation process of the containment spray system in the nuclear power station.The numerical simulation indicates the refined droplet model is more capable for precise prediction of the situations with large quantities of evaporating droplets and with intensive interactions between two phases.

Semidefinite relaxation aided noncoherent detection in two-way relay transmission

A high-performance noncoherent transmission scheme is proposed in the broadcasting phase of a twoway relay transmission(TWRT),where multiple-symbol differential detection(MSDD)is performed because of its excellent detection performance with no channel estimation.Specifically,the generalized likelihood ratio test aided MSDD(GLRT-MSDD)is developed for the down-link.Furthermore,GLRT-MSDD is reformulated and a semidefinite relaxation aided MSDD(SDR-MSDD)is proposed.The reformulation of GLRT-MSDD to SDR-MSDD is desirable owing to its reduced complexity.Performance analysis and the simulations validate that the proposed SDR-MSDD provides the bit-error-rate performance close to that of GLRT-MSDD with reasonable complexity in TWRT.

Optimization model and algorithm for system operation division of labor at two-way marshaling station

Based on the systematic analysis of the operation process at two-way marshaling station, the operation ways of through car flows, sorting car flows and loading car flows are comprehensively studied. An optimal model of system operation division of labor based on resource constraint is constructed. The model is solved by using genetic algorithm, and the improving strategy for solving the model is proposed. The application example indicates that the model and algorithm can effectively solve the problem of operation division of labor at two-way marshaling station.

Distributed Relay Beamforming in Cognitive two-way Networks: SINR Balancing Approach

In this paper, we study the problem of distributed relay beamforming for a bidirectional cognitive relay network which consists of two secondary transceivers and K cognitive relay nodes and a primary network with a transmitter and receiver, using underlay model. For effective use of spectrum, we propose a Multiple Access Broadcasting (MABC) two-way relaying scheme for cognitive networks. The two transceivers transmit their data towards the relays and then relays retransmit the processed form of signal towards the receiver. Our aim is to design the beamforming coefficients to maximize quality of service (QoS) for the secondary network while satisfying tolerable interference constraint for the primary network. We show that this approach yields a closed-form solution. Our simulation results show that the maximum achievable SINR improved while the tolerable interference temperature becomes not strict for primary receiver.

Speed Reduction Mitigation Strategies on Rural Highways at two-way Stop Control Intersections and Curves

Studies conducted on crashes at rural intersections of state highways and local roads/streets with two-way stop control have proved that the problem was likely poor judgment by the stopped driver on the minor approach of the speed of an oncoming vehicle and/or safe gap in traffic on the major highway. Several mitigating strategies have been suggested and studied in various studies to improve safety at the two-way stop control rural intersections and at other rural highway segments. There are also several low-cost techniques used, mostly in foreign countries, to slow drivers on major highways as they enter small towns and villages, e.g., narrowing pavement lines, establishing visual gateways, etc. Lowered speeds would decrease crash severity. In this study, four strategies including solar speed display units, mobile speed trailers, optical speed bars, and colored pavement were tested and assessed in some locations in Kansas. The results of this research indicate that both solar speed display units and mobile speed trailers are effective in speed reduction at the desired points, but optical speed bars and colored pavements do not yield reliable results. Additional studies and longer term studies, should be conducted.

Secure Communications for two-way Relay Networks Via Relay Chatting

In this paper, we investigate a two-way relay network consisting of two sources, multiple cooperative relays and an eavesdropper. To enhance secure communications, a new relay chatting based on transmission scheme is proposed. Specifically, the proposed scheme selects a best relay that maximize the sum mutual information among the sources to forward the sources’ signals using an amplify-and-forward protocol, and the remaining relays transmit interference signals to confuse the eavesdropper via distributed beam forming. It can be found that the proposed scheme with relay chatting does not require the knowledge of the eavesdropper’s channel, and outperforms the joint relay and jammer selection scheme, which introduces the interference into the sources. Numerical results show that the secrecy outage probability of the proposed scheme converges to zero as the transmit power increases.
