Plant peroxisomes have the capacity to gen erate different reactive oxygen and nitrogen species(ROS and RNS),such as H2O2,superoxide radical(O2^·-),nitric oxide and peroxynitrite(ONOO^-).These organelles have an active nitrooxidative metabolism which can be exacerbated by adverse stress conditions.Hydrogen sulfide(H2S)is a new signaling gasotransmitter which can mediate the posttranslational modification(PTM)persulfidation.We used Arabidopsis thaliana transgenic seedlings expressing cyan fluorescent protein(CFP)fused to a canonical peroxisome targeting signal 1(PTS1)to visualize peroxisomes in living cells,as well as a specific fluorescent probe which showed that peroxisomes contain H2S.H2S was also detected in chloroplasts under glyphosate-induced oxidative stress conditions.Peroxisomal enzyme activities,including catalase,photorespiratory H2O2-generating glycolate oxidase(GOX)and hydroxypyruvate reductase(HPR),were assayed in vitro with a H2S donor.In line with the persulfidation of this enzyme,catalase activity declined significantly in the presence of the H2S donor.To corroborate the inhibitory effect of H2S on catalase activity,we also assayed pure catalase from bovine liver and pepper fruit-enriched samples,in which catalase activity was inhibited.Taken together,these data provide evidenee of the presence of H2S in plant peroxisomes which appears to regulate catalase activity and,consequently,the peroxisomal H2O2 metabolism.

The Key triggers for the Transitioning of Informal SMMEs to Formal SMMEs:A Baseline Survey of the Gauteng Province——South Africa

This paper presents the views of 623 informal and formal small,medium,and micro enterprises(SMMEs)operating in the Gauteng Province of South Africa.The objective of the study was to identify challenges and benefits that are experienced by SMMEs during and after the registration process leading to the transition from informal to formal business,the level of awareness by the SMMEs of the registration information,and the procedures in addition to the potential factors that inspire or discourage informal and prospective business registration.The reason for including both informal and formal SMMEs in the survey was to compare the perceptions of these groups of businesses regarding the triggers and/or barriers to register as a formal business.The results show that for both informal and formal businesses,the liability of paying taxes was a major challenge while improved workers’health and safety accrued as a major benefit.Own research emerged as the main source of access to business registration information and procedure.The costs involved in registration were highlighted as one of the major factors discouraging registration but the prospects of expanding the customer base and the ability to achieve a higher turnover as some of the main inspiring factors.The study recommends the development of policies that provide an enabling environment for sustainable enterprises but also to implement measures that improve productivity through access to finance,skills,infrastructure,markets,and technology transfers.

A Study of Presupposition triggers in Chinese Romantic Conversations

Presupposition means an implied fact or information which is accepted by both speaker and hearer in a conversation,or at least the information that can always be inferred from the context after hearing the discourse.In the analysis of how speaker's assumptions are typically expressed,presupposition has been associated with the use of a large number of words,phrases,and structures,known as presupposition-triggers.There are many studies on trigger language at home and abroad,but there are relatively few studies on analyzing presupposition triggers from the perspective of romantic conversations.In this paper,by analyzing what presupposition triggers are used in the conversations and what functions the triggers perform,also the various ways of communication in which a boyfriend annoys his girlfiriend,we can solve the doubts of many male friends,so that people can have a deeper understanding of presupposition triggers and the application of it in romantic conversations,which may help us a lot in our daily interpersonal communication life.

Mandative Subjunctive triggers in American English A Corpus-Based Case Study

Preface of the Chinese version of “The seismite problem”

During the past 30 years(1987-2016), a great progress has been made in researches of softsediment deformation structures(SSDS) and seismites in China. However, the research thought of the academic field was not open-minded. It was almost with one viewpoint, i.e., almost all the papers of this field published in China considered the beds with SSDS as seismites. In order to change the phenomenon of one viewpoint, Feng et al.(2016) wrote a paper "Researches of soft-sediment deformation structures and seismites in ChinadA brief review" as "to cast a brick to attract the jade", emailed this paper to many geologists in China and other countries, and invited them to write papers for the symposium of "Multi-origin of softsediment deformation structures and seismites", to orally present their papers at the symposium, and to discuss the problems of SSDS and seismites."The seismite problem" by Prof. Shanmugam is the first paper that we have received from those geologists invited by us. It is an excellent paper that covers 153 years researches of geologists worldwide and has 268 references. It is beneficial to the researches of SSDS and seismites in China. The most important contribution of this paper is to challenge and negate the term "seismites" introduced by Seilacher(1969). Therefore, the term "seismites" should be obsoleted. Chinese geologist translated the term "seismites" into "震积岩"(Zhenjiyan)(the beds induced by earthquake and sedimentation). It is a mistranslated term and should not be used any more. Whether the term "seismites" should be obsoleted or not, and whether the term "震积岩"(Zhenjiyan) should not be used any more, these problems should be discussed and determined by numerous geologists in China and worldwide, and should be determined by geological practice. Decoding white coat hypertension

There is arguably no less understood or more intriguing problem in hypertension that the"white coat"condition,the standard concept of which is significantly blood pressure reading obtained by medical personnel of authoritative standing than that obtained by more junior and less authoritative personnel and by the patients themselves.Using hospital-initiated ambulatory blood pressure monitoring,the while effect manifests as initial and ending pressure elevations,and,in treated patients,a low daytime profile.The effect is essentially systolic.Pure diastolic white coat hypertension appears to be exceedingly rare.On the basis of the studies,we believe that the white coat phenomenon is a common,periodic,neuro-endocrine reflex conditioned by anticipation of having the blood pressure taken and the fear of what this measurement may indicate concerning future illness.It does not change with time,or with prolonged association with the physician,particularly with advancing years,it may be superimposed upon essential hypertension,and in patients receiving hypertensive medication,blunting of the nighttime dip,which occurs in about half the patients,may be a compensatory mechanisms,rather than an indication of cardiovascular risk.Rather than the blunted dip,the morning surge or the widened pulse pressure,cardiovascular risk appears to be related to elevation of the average night time pressure.

Design and Implementation of the Security Subsystem in Payroll Management System

This paper designs a security subsystem based on password protection and triggers mechanism in database management systems. Structure and function of the security subsystem is described in a payroll management system as an example of how the security subsystem gives additional security from possible intended or accidental attacks to the entire database system. The security subsystem involves password protection, triggers and improved physical storage mechanism, which combine together to be integrity to enhance security performance.Implementation of the security subsystem in a payroll database has proved its effectiveness.

Takotsubo syndrome is a wide spectrum disease with a dramatic clinical presentation mimicking acute coronary syndrome albeit without obstructive coronary disease and typically manifests in the backdrop of intense emotional or physical trigger.Pathophysiology is incompletely understood with multifactorial mechanistic pathways circling around a heart-brain-endocrine axis.Several anatomic and phenotypic variants exist with varied clinical manifestations.The aftermath of Takotsubo syndrome is not always benign and both short-and longterm complications can occur which may impact its prognosis.Several gaps in knowledge exist providing an impetus for tremendous future research opportunities.

Using markedly abnormal vital signs in the emergency department to anticipate needs for intensive care unit admission

Objective: To assess the utility and relative strength of markedly abnormal vital signs thresholds (triggers) in prediction of the needs for intensive care unit (ICU) admission from the emergency department (ED). Methods: A retrospective cohort study performed in a 37 000 annual visit, urban, community teaching ED. All adult patient encounters from July 10, 2011 to July 9, 2013 were eligible for inclusion. The primary outcome was ICU admission from the ED. We collected the incidence of trigger vital signs (heart rate>130 bpm, heart rate30 breaths per minute, respiratory rate< breaths 8 per minute, oxygen saturation<90%, systolic blood pressure<90 mmHg) as binary variables for each patient enrolled. Univariate and multi-variable logistic regression models were created to determine the ability of the trigger vital signs to predict ICU admission. Results: Total of 68 554 patient encounters were included in the analysis. Of these, 2 355 [3.4%, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 3.3%-3.6%] patients exhibited trigger vital signs, and 1 135 (1.7%, 95% CI 1.6%-1.8%) patients were admitted to ICU. All trigger vital signs were strongly associated with admission to the ICU and demonstrated higher odds of ICU admission with HR<40 (odds ratio 5.2, with 95% CI 2.7-10.1) being the best predictor among the studied covariates. The likelihood of ICU admission increased in a linear fashion with the number of trigger vital signs exhibited. Conclusions: Trigger vital signs serve as predictors that an ED patient may need admission to the ICU and may serve as a tool to expedite disposition of these resource-intensive patients.

How to Predict Earthquakes with Microsequences and Reversed Phase Repetitive Patterns

A strong earthquake is always preceded by groupings of shocks whose identification and understanding constitute a sound method for improving short-term earthquake forecasts. Thanks to a graphical method, we have identified and classified some microsequences and reversed phase repetitive patterns that precede the hazardous events. The seismic microsequences include a series of information useful to know in advance the beginning of energy release and accumulation phases that usually precede and follow a moderate-to-high magnitude earthquake. Their identification and correct interpretation allow us to determine various warning signals. In particular, through the analysis of their shape and position in the seismic sequence we can claim that the strongest earthquakes occur shortly after the formation of some peculiar micro-sequences. The checks carried out on large data sets related to earthquakes occurred in the past have shown that the analysis procedures developed do not depend on the size of the area analyzed while predicting a high percentage of moderate-to-high magnitude earthquakes.
