Emergency response facility location in transportation networks: A literature review

Emergency response activity relies on transportation networks. Emergency facility location interacts with transportation networks clearly. This review is aimed to provide a combined framework for emergency facility location in transportation networks. The article reveals emergency response activities research clusters, issues, and objectives according to keywords co-occurrence analysis. Four classes of spatial separation models in transportation networks, including distance, routing, accessibility, and travel time are introduced. The stochastic and time-dependent characteristics of travel time are described. Travel time estimation and prediction method, travel time under emergency vehicle preemption,transportation network equilibrium method, and travel time in degradable networks are demonstrated. The emergency facilities location models interact with transportation networks, involving location-routing model, location models embedded with accessibility,location models embedded with travel time, and location models employing mathematical program with equilibrium constraints are reviewed. We then point out the-state-of-art challenges: ilities-oriented, evolution landscape and sequential decision modelling, datadriven optimization approach, and machine learning-based algorithms.

The spatial spread of COVID-19 during early 2020 in China was primarily driven by outbound travelers leaving the epicenter,Wuhan,Hubei *** studies focus on the influence of aggregated out-bound population flows originating from Wuhan;however,the impacts of different modes of transportation and the network structure of transportation systems on the early spread of COVID-19 in China are not well ***,we assess the roles of the road,railway,and air transportation networks in driving the spatial spread of COVID-19 in *** find that the short-range spread within Hubei province was dominated by ground traffic,notably,the railway *** contrast,long-range spread to cities in other provinces was mediated by multiple factors,including a higher risk of case importation associated with air transportation and a larger outbreak size in hub cities located at the center of transportation *** further show that,although the dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 across countries and continents is determined by the worldwide air transportation network,the early geographic dispersal of COVID-19 within China is better predicted by the railway *** the recent emergence of multiple more transmissible variants of SARS-CoV-2,our findings can support a better assessment of the spread risk of those variants and improve future pandemic preparedness and responses.

In the last three decades, bridge stock seismic retrofitting prioritization has become one of the cult topics for scientific discussions in the bridge management strategies. More recent methods are focusing on the evaluation of the generalized failure cost, of a specific bridge derived from direct and indirect costs induced to the users/residents of the area exposed to the seismic hazard as a consequence of bridge collapse. However, when these approaches have to be applied to large transport networks, appear still very complex and computational demanding, and therefore simplified methods to evaluate the impact in terms of social cost related to the reduced efficiency of a transportation network due to potential bridge failure, are *** this work, a simplified method for seismic retrofitting prioritization on a bridge stock is proposed, which is based on a “blended” approach considering specific fragility curves according to several bridge features and condition state, seismic inputs and generalized failure costs related to the transportation network. The effectiveness of the method has been showed on a case study of a local bridge stock placed in central Italy and the obtained results have been compared with those provided by more refined transport simulation models, on one hand, and by more traditional prioritization approaches, on the other. It is highlighted that this method can be very useful for transportation network managers with in a limited budget scenario, in case of lack of information about possible earthquakeinduced impacts on a transportation network efficiency.

In order to analyze the structural stability of transportation networks, a dynamic structure optimization method combining with betweenness and network entropy, named Fast Betweenness Entropy Maximization（Fast BEM）, is proposed in this paper, which uses iterative calculation process to enhance stability of network structure, and finally reaches a stable structure of transportation networks. The Fast BEM improves the speed of convergence on the basis of the existing open shortest path first algorithm, despite an increase in the work done in each optimization iteration. But the number of optimized iterations and the running time are reduced in general. Consequently, the stable structure can be found more quickly. The experiments show that by using the Fast BEM, the convergence speed tends to be stable to reduce volatility, and the effectiveness of this algorithm is verified.

Predicting the effects of the introduction of alternative transportation means on air quality is an important task for urban mobility *** study proposes a methodology that uses simulation to estimate the impact of changes in public transport on the traffic emissions of *** using mobility planning information simulation models can be built,which can provide estimation of the dynamics of traffic over ***,coupling simulated traffic with emission factors of vehicles,an emission model can be used to estimate the total amount of PM2.5 *** this approach,the effect of changes in the public transportation system can be assessed with respect to PM2.5 *** the paper,we explore a case study in the city of Bogotá,Colombia,when a bus rapid transport system is to be added alongside a major city avenue.
