Pea3 expression promotes the invasive and metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma

AIM:To investigate the function of Pea3 in colorectal carcinoma(CRC)invasion and metastatic potential.METHODS:The expression of Pea3 during clinical progression of human CRC was investigated using Oncomine Research Edition.To assay Pea3 expression in established CRC cell lines,we performed western blotting of cell lysates.We employed sh RNA-mediated knockdown of Pea3 in HCT116(HCT)and LS174T CRC cells which was confirmed by real-time quantitative PCR(q PCR)and western blotting.transwell invasion assays,MTS proliferation assays,anoikis assays,and fluorometric matrix metalloprotease(MMP)assays wereperformed to determine the effects of Pea3 knockdown on invasion,proliferation,anoikis and MMP activity in CRC cells in vitro.Alterations in epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)and matrix metalloprotease(MMP)m RNA levels were determined by q PCR.CRC cells were injected into the flanks of nude mice to generate xenografts and tumor growth monitored with serial calliper measurements.To assay metastatic potential,CRC cells were injected into the spleen of nude mice,and histological analysis performed on the livers 21 d later.RESULTS:We demonstrated that reduction of Pea3expression in CRC cells significantly impaired their invasive capacity(HCT.sh Pea3,0.28±0.04 fold,P0.05).In keeping with a pro-metastatic function for Pea3 in CRC,several EMT markers and MMPs were downregulated in sh Pea3-expressing cells,suggesting that Pea3 may exert its effects through these processes.A reduction in overall MMP activity

Outcome of transarterial chemoembolization-based multi-modal treatment in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM:To investigate the efficacy and safety of transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)-based multimodal treatment in patients with large hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:A total of 146 consecutive patients were included in the analysis,and their medical records and radiological data were reviewed retrospectively.RESULTS:In total,119 patients received TACE-based multi-modal treatments,and the remaining 27 received conservative management.Overall survival(P<0.001)and objective tumor response(P=0.003)were significantly better in the treatment group than in the conservative group.After subgroup analysis,survival benefits were observed not only in the multi-modal treatment group compared with the TACE-only group(P=0.002)but also in the surgical treatment group compared with the loco-regional treatment-only group(P<0.001).Multivariate analysis identified tumor stage(P<0.001)and tumor type(P=0.009)as two independent pre-treatment factors for survival.After adjusting for significant pre-treatment prognostic factors,objective response(P<0.001),surgical treatment(P=0.009),and multi-modal treatment(P=0.002)were identified as independent post-treatment prognostic factors.CONCLUSION:TACE-based multi-modal treatments were safe and more beneficial than conservative management.Salvage surgery after successful downstaging resultedin long-term survival in patients with large,unresectable HCC.

translation Principles and Methods for Long Sentences in English Sale Contracts of Goods

The translation of English sale contracts of goods has become an important step in international goods sales. In order to resolve the difficulties, the translation of long sentences, the author defines what the translation of English sale contracts of goods is in the international goods sales based on skopos theory. Then the author presents four principles: accuracy, fluency, standard and preciseness for the translation of long sentences in view of the purpose of translation, the nature of readership and the type of texts. And the author further advances feasible methods for the translation of long sentences after analyzing their features. These principles and methods are proven to be meaningful in the translation of English sale contracts of goods.

Time-crystal ground state and production of gravitational waves from QCD phase transition

We propose a novel mechanism for the production of gravitational waves in the early Universe that originates from the relaxation processes induced by the QCD phase transition. While the energy density of the quark-gluon mean-field is monotonously decaying in real time, its pressure undergoes a series of violent oscillations at the characteristic QCD time scales that generate a primordial multi-peaked gravitational waves signal in the radio frequencies’ domain. The signal is an echo of the QCD phase transition that is accessible by planned measurements at the FAST and SKA telescopes.

The Manipulation of Poetic and Ideology: Human translation in Sour Sweet

Timothy Mo,a famous British writer whose works have won many important prizes,experiences both Chinese culture and English culture since his childhood.Due to this kind of experience,his works are usually concerned with the issue of cultural conflict.Among these works,Sour Sweet is the most well-known one in China,and it has also been filmed as Soursweet in 1988 with the famous actress Zhang Aijia.In Sour Sweet,Timothy Mo tells a story about a Chinese family’s struggle in the UK.After experiencing a serious of cultural conflict,among the three family members Chen,Lily and Mui,only Lily achieves a delicate balance.After defining the process of establishing oneself in a new environment as a kind of human translation,the article applies AndréLefevere’s theory to study the three characters’different responses to the cultural conflict,analyze how different poetic and different strategies adopted to deal with ideology affect their translation,explain why does or doesn’t he/she translates himself/herself successfully,and finally gets the conclusion:because Lily deals well with the dominant ideological and poetical currents,and makes appropriate choice in face of cultural translatability and untranslatability,so only she can translate herself successfully.
