This paper describes signalized roundabouts with GPSS and developa simulation model to assess the traffic performance of the signalizedroundabout and its capacity. Average delay and stop frequency are used to analyze a few signal control strategies. A real small roundabout which is assumed to be signalizedis simulated by this model. The results is inclined to show thatsignalizing theN small round about would not be a good traffic control strategy.

Mixed traffic consisting of cars and bicycles is a typical pattern of urban traffic in China. To study the impact of bicycles on traffic performance, a microscopic simulating model based on the principle of cautious driving and collision free was proposed. The interaction between cars and bicycles were described by lateral friction and overlapping driving. The dynamical features of speed and time-headway were investigated by numerical simulations. The results show that bicycles have a significant impact on travel speed and time-headway. The effect of bicycles can cause different results in the free flow phase and congestion phase respectively. The results also indicate the necessity to mitigate the interaction between motorized vehicles and non-motorized vehicles.

Based on the principles of urban traffic planning and forecasting, a traffic simulation modal of approaching the existing OD trip volumes of the traffic zones from the observed link flows has been introduced by analyzing the relations between the OD trip volumes of a traffic zone and the link flows. The modal is defined as an "inverse traffic simulation modal" because its process is a reverse to that of the staged traffic forecast modal.

To meet the challenges in software testing for automated vehicles,such as increasing system complexity and an infinite number of operating scenarios,new simulation methods must be developed.Closed-loop simulations for automated driving(AD)require highly complex simulation models for multiple controlled vehicles with their perception systems as well as their surrounding context.For the realization of such models,different simulation domains must be coupled with co-simulation.However,widely supported model integration standards such as functional mock-up interface(FMI)lack native support for distributed platforms,which is a key feature for AD due to the computational intensity and platform exclusivity of certain models.The newer FMI companion standard distributed co-simulation protocol(DCP)introduces platform coupling but must still be used in conjunction with AD co-simulations.As part of an assessment framework for AD,this paper presents a DCP compliant implementation of an interoperable interface between a 3D environment and vehicle simulator and a co-simulation platform.A universal Python wrapper is implemented and connected to the simulator to allow its control as a DCP slave.A C-code-based interface enables the co-simulation platform to act as a DCP master and to realize cross-platform data exchange and time synchronization of the environment simulation with other integrated models.A model-in-the-loop use case is performed with the traffic simulator CARLA running on a Linux machine connected to the co-simulation master xMOD on a Windows computer via DCP.Several virtual vehicles are successfully controlled by cooperative adaptive cruise controllers executed outside of CARLA.The standard compliance of the implementation is verified by exemplary connection to prototypic DCP solutions from 3rd party vendors.This exemplary application demonstrates the benefits of DCP compliant tool coupling for AD simulation with increased tool interoperability,reuse potential,and performance.

This article surveys the state-of-the-art crowd simulation techniques and their selected applications, with its focus on our recent research advances in this rapidly growing research field. We first give a categorized overview on the mainstream methodologies of crowd simulation. Then, we describe our recent research advances on crowd evacuation,pedestrian crowds, crowd formation, traffic simulation, and swarm simulation. Finally, we offer our viewpoints on open crowd simulation research challenges and point out potential future directions in this field.

Recently,Chinese megacities have suffered serious air pollution.Previous studies have pointed out that transportation systems have become one of the major sources of air pollution and on-road pollutant concentrations are significantly higher than off-road.Electric vehicle(EV)introduction is proposed as a method to alleviate the current situation.In order to better understand the benefit of the use of EVs in Beijing,a simulation platform has been developed to evaluate the improvement of air quality with the use of EVs quantitatively within the selected area.Four scenarios with different EV penetration rates are proposed and the results revealed 5%,10%,15%EV penetration rates which will bring about improvement of 0.86%,9.01%and 12.23%for PM2.5,0.92%,9.01%and 13.32%for nitrogen oxides(NO_(x)),0.95%,8.86%and 13.73%for CO,respectively.The results revealed a promising improvement of air quality with the introduction of EVs.

In this paper, a systemic method to traffic impact analysis is proposed. Firstly, the traffic demand that the project generates is forecasted according to the survey and analysis of the background traffic information. Then, the traffic volume is distributed reasonably in order to make sure the balance of the project won’t be destroyed. At the same time, we put forward the corresponding evaluation index and method and an integrated assessment index calculation method and evaluation standard, thus reinforce the traffic organization management, and promote the development of the city and the progress.

Vehicle automation holds significant opportunities in the efforts for safer road traffic.Even lower levels of automation like adaptive cruise control(ACC)systems have great potential.Apart from safety benefits,ACC systems could improve the efficiency of traffic networks.However,contemporary ACC systems are designed to be comfortable,but not guaranteed to be safe.Moreover,according to recent literature studies,they have been found to be conservative and string unstable,with traffic oscillations being amplified when traveling downstream.Due to those issues,severe problems can arise in the traffic flow and the efficiency of road traffic networks may deteriorate.Automating the vehicles’longitudinal movement through ADAS systems offers new opportunities in improving the safety conditions on the roads by designing more consistent controllers.In the present paper,a fuzzy controller is developed for automated longitudinal vehicle control.The controller is validated through simulation and real-world data of ACC systems that are currently available in the market.Using fuzzy surrogate safety metrics,the controller becomes aware of the safety level of any situation and can react properly.Moreover,the driving behavior is efficient for the traffic flow,comfortable and string stable,dampening traffic shockwaves that travel upstream.Results prove the robustness of the proposed solution.
