trace element and sulfur isotope compositions of pyrite from the Tianqiao Zn–Pb–Ag deposit in Guizhou province,SW China:implication for the origin of ore-forming fluids

The Tianqiao Zn–Pb–Ag deposit in SW China,hosted by Devonian and Carboniferous limestone and clay rocks,is composed of sulfides such as sphalerite,galena,and pyrite.Pyrite is present in different paragenetic stages and can be divided into four types based on textures and mineral assemblages.Pyrite from the adjacent Shanshulin deposit(Py-SSL)is also used for comparison.Py1 shows framboid texture with grain diameter up to 1 mm and was commonly replaced by sphalerite.Py2 is characterized by overgrowth texture and displays inner oscillatory zoning.Py2 is associated with abundant sphalerite and galena.Py3 shows replacement relics textures where galena fills the fractures of pyrite.Py4 is a euhedral to subhedral crystal disseminated in dolomite and is characterized by deformation and fragmentation textures.Minor sphalerite and galena are associated with Py4.Py-SSL is subhedral and disseminated in dolomite,similar to Py4.Py1 was formed by a diagenetic or sedimentary process,whereas Py2 and Py3 were formed by multiple stages of ore fluids.Py4 and Py-SSL were formed at the carbonate-sulfide stage,but Py4 suffered from deformation after its formation.Py1,Py2,and Py3 are characterized by relative enrichment of Sb,Cu,and As,in contrast to Py4 and Py-SSL with higher Cr,W,Ge,Sn,Tl,Ni,and Ga contents.However,critical metals such as Ge,Ga,and In in pyrite are generally lower than10 ppm,which are not economically important.The trace element variation in Tianqiao pyrite with paragenesis results from fluid evolution in the Pb–Zn ore system and competition with co-precipitating minerals.Diagenetic and ore-forming hydrothermal fluids are responsible for the formation of different types of pyrite.Ore-related pyrite from the Tianqiao and Shanshulin deposits has Co and Ni distribution features similar to pyrite from sedimentary pyrite and submarine hydrothermal vents,different from those in volcanogenic massive sulfide,iron oxide-copper–gold,and porphyry Cu deposits,indicating their derivation of relatively low-temperature(<~250°C)hydro

This paper describes a combined method of simultaneously measuring U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopes as well as trace elements in Phalaborwa baddeleyite and 91500,GJ-1,TEMORA-1 and SK10-2 zircons by means of Neptune MC-ICPMS and Agilent Q-ICPMS connected to a 193 nm excimer laser ablation system. Material ablated by laser was carried in different proportions into Q-ICPMS for U-Pb isotopic and trace elemental and MC-ICPMS for Lu-Hf isotopic compositions.Experiments indicate that different proportions of ablated material for the Q-ICPMS and MC-ICPMS(6:4,5:5 and 4:6 respectively) do not show any bias for the zircon/baddeleyite U-Pb age,Lu-Hf isotope and trace elemental compositions within analytical errors.Using 40—60μm spot size,the obtained U-Pb ages of Phalaborwa baddeleyite,91500, GJ-1,TEMORA and SK10-2 zircons are 2065±15(2σ,n=20),1063±6(2a,n=19),613±6(2a,n=20),416±5 (2σ,n=20) and 32.6±0.5(2σ,n=20) Ma,respectively.The Hf/Hf ratios are 0.281231±24(2SD,n=20), 0.282310±35(2SD,n=19),0.282028±34(2SD,n=20),0.282687±34(2SD,n=20) and 0.282752±53(2SD, n=20),respectively.The obtained trace elemental compositions are identical to the reference values. Therefore,this kind of technique makes it possible to simultaneously obtain the U-Pb age,Lu-Hf isotopes and trace elemental compositions of zircon and baddeleyite,which could be an important tool in solving problems in earth sciences.

The Paleocene coals of the Salt Range in the Punjab Province of Pakistan have great economic potential;however,their trace element and stable isotopic characteristics have not been studied in detail except for a few sporadic samples.In this study,a total of 59 coal samples of which 14 are obtained from open cast mines have been investigated for elemental composition andδ^(13)C-δ^(15)N isotopic signatures.Average contents of trace elements such as Co,Cr,Cu,Pb,Sr,Th,U,V,and Zn are 7.4,41.7,11.2,12.5,90.2,4.0,1.9,128,and 31.1 mg/kg,respectively.These values,when compared with the World Coal Clarke values,were relatively higher in low-rank coals in comparison with Clarke values for brown coals.Likewise,As(20.4 mg/kg),Co(6.6 mg/kg),Cr(22.4 mg/kg),Cu(^(13).3 mg/kg),Pb(19.2 mg/kg),Sr(^(15)4.7 mg/kg),Th(2.5 mg/kg),V(47.8 mg/kg),and Zn(75.1 mg/kg)were significantly higher in the sub-bituminous to bituminous coals of the Salt Range.Mineralogical analysis,based on X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,revealed that the studied samples contain illite,kaolinite calcite,gypsum,pyrite,and quartz.Elemental affinity with organic and inorganic phases of coals calculated by an indirect statistical approach indicated a positive association of ash content with Ag,Al,Co,Cr,Cs,Cu,Mn,P,Rb,Pb,Th,U,and V,suggesting the presence of inorganic components in studied coals.However,As,Fe,Sr,and Zn exhibit negative correlations that imply their association with the organic fraction.Theδ^(13)C andδ^(15)N isotopic range and average−24.94‰to−25.86‰(−25.41‰)and−2.77‰to 3.22‰(0.96‰),respectively,reflecting 3C type modern terrestrial vegetation were common in the palaeomires of studied coal seams.In addition,the trivial variations of 0.92‰and 0.45‰among^(13)C and^(15)N values can be attributed to water level fluctuations and plant assemblies.

Over the past several years,China has suffered from severe air quality deterioration,especially fine particulate matter(PM) pollution.Though PM contains only a small proportion of trace elements(TrElems),due to their no-degradability,high toxicity and high bioaccumulation,the corresponding impacts on human health cannot be ignored.Health risk assessment of TrElems in PM has often been estimated based on the total element concentrations or more recently on the phosphate buffered saline(PBS)-soluble concentrations.However,PM can be transported into human body through ingestion,dermal contact and inhalation,and we should not ignore the varying solubility of TrElems in different body fluids via different exposure routes.In this study,the bioaccessibility of particulate-bound TrElems(V,Mn,Co,Ni,Cu,As,Cd and Pb) were investigated using three kinds of simulated body fluids,artificial lung fluid(ALF),artificial sweat(AS),and artificial gastric juice(AGJ),comparing with the commonly used PBS.In all solutions,V,Mn,Cu,As,and Pb presented high bioaccessibility(>60%),while Ni showed low bioaccessibility(～20%) and thus a decreased risk to human health(Table 1).There was also a notable variation in elemental bioaccessibility among different simulated body fluids,which might be attributed to the effects of solution pH,solubility product and chelating agent.Carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic effects were evaluated using ALF,AS and AGJ-soluble fractions(representing the corresponding exposure routes:inhalation,dermal contact and ingestion) according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA) human health risk assessment model(Figure 1).The studied elements in PM appeared to cause non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic effects as indicated by high HIs(>1) and CRs(>1×10-6).Moreover,ingestion pathway was the primary route to increase the potential health risks,and children were more sensitive than adults to PM exposure.Compared with traditional evaluation methods,an overestimate was obtained using the total elemental conce

Potassium,calcium,sodium,magnesium,copper,zinc,iron and manganese were measured by AAS in 5 colostrum samples,5 transitional milk samples and 30 mature milks from healthy Chinese lactating women collected between 0-5,6-20 and 21～180d after parturition.The mean concentration of potassium and sodium(P≤0.05) were significantly higher in the colostrum milk as compared to the mature milk and the mean concentration of potassium(P≤0.05) was significantly higher in the transitional milk as compared to the mature milk,while the comparison of the mean concentration of potassium between colostrum and transitional milk,and the mean concentrations of sodium between colostrum and transitional milk,and transitional milk and mature milk were not significantly different.And the mean concentrations of calcium,magnesium, copper,zinc,iron and manganese between colostrum and transitional milk,colostrum and mature milk and transitional milk and mature milk were not significantly different.The mean concentrations of potassium,calcium,sodium,magnesium, copper,zinc,iron and manganese were measured according to the daily food intake of the lactating women and were compared with the Chinese Dietary Reference Intake.The results showed that the mainly constant and trace elements intake by mothers were significantly under the standard recommended amounts.

Objects: Hemodialysis（HD） patients are potentially at risk of deficiency or excess of trace elements（TEs）. However, few studies have been reported on TEs’ alterations in uremic patients undergoing long-term（＞24 months） HD by using the whole blood as the biological fluid for the measuring purpose, especially in West China. The application of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry（ICP-MS） allows the simultaneous quantification of very small amounts of multiple TEs with greater sensitivity and higher specificity. Our objective was to develop an improved ICP-MS method for enabling simultaneous analysis of whole blood concentrations of calcium（Ca）, magnesium（Mg）, copper（Cu）, zinc（Zn）, iron（Fe）, manganese（Mn）, selenium（Se） and lead（Pb） in uremic patients receiving long-term HD. Methods: A reproducible and reliable method with a simple whole blood sample preparation procedure was firstly established for the simultaneous quantification of various elements based on ICP-MS. 124 eligible uremic patients（75 males and 49 females） receiving long-term hemodialysis and 77 healthy subjects（54 males and 23 females） were further recruited and all the Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Se and Pb levels were determined.Results: An accurate, reproducible and stable ICP-MS method had been successfully established and fully validated. Then it was applied in uremic patients undergoing long-term HD as well as healthy controls. Results revealed that uremic HD patients showed significantly higher blood levels of Ca（P＜0.001）, Mg（P＜0.001）, Zn（P＜0.001） and Pb（P＜0.001） than healthy controls and lower concentrations of Cu（P＜0.001）, Fe（P=0.004）, Se（P=0.033） and Mn（P=0.003）. Moreover, Significant differences of trace element concentrations were found between female and male subjects in both healthy controls and uremic HD patients in our findings. Conclusion: Uremic patients undergoing long-term HD might be at increased risk of some essential trace elements deficiency（especially for Cu, Fe and Se） or toxic trace element excess（Pb） in respect to healthy

Carbon isotope,sulfur isotope,and trace element(including Rare Earth elements,REE)analyses were conducted on the carbonates of the Dengying Formation at Lianghekou section in southern Shaanxi to reconstruct the terminal Ediacaran shallow-water environment on the northwestern margin of the Yangtze Platform.At Lianghekou section,samples in the middle50-m of the Beiwan Member show characteristics of low∑REE concentrations,no MREE-enriched REE distribution patterns,high Ce/Cevalues close to 1,and enriched redox-sensitive elements,whereas samples in the lower 30-m and upper 10-m show opposite characteristics of high SREE concentrations,MREE-enriched REE distribution patterns,low Ce/Cevalues around 0.6,and no redox-sensitive elements enriched,indicating that oxygenation did occur in the shallow water on the northwestern margin of the Yangtze Platform and redox conditions of the shallow water fluctuated from relatively oxygenated to anoxic and then back to oxygenated again.We propose that the anoxia appeared in middle of the Beiwan time may associate with the anoxic upwelled water.On one hand,abundant nutrients were brought in by this upwelling event,which stimulated the photosynthetic carbon fixation and increased the organic carbon burial under this anoxic condition,causing a peak of 3.6‰inδC.On the other hand,because the anoxic upwelled water replaced the oxic shallow water,together with the increasing organic matter in the water column,bacterial sulfate reduction was enhanced and therefore quickly reduced the sulfate concentration,which eventually causedδS increasing to 50‰.However,as the upwelling gradually disappeared,δC andδSvalues decreased as well in the late Beiwan time,indicating the shallow water went back to suboxic or oxic again.

[Objective]The aim was to establish a method for determining the trace elements in Psidium guajava L.fruits.[Method]Cu and Zn were determined by FAAS and Ni,Cr,Pb,As,Cd and Hg by GFAAS.[Result]Among these samples, content of Cu was the highest,while contents of Zn,Cr,As,Ni,Pb,Cd and Hg were lower.The sample recovery rates of Cu and Zn were found in the range of 99.2% -100.4%,and those for Pb,Cd,Cr,Ni,As and Hg were among the range of 97.6% -102.1%,with all the values of RSD less than 4.46%.[Conclusion]This method was simple,rapid,sensitive and accurate.It could be used for determining the content of trace elements in Psidium guajava L.fruits.

A suite of slightly metamorphosed Carboniferous sedimentary strata occurs in the northern margin of the Dabie Mountains, central China.It consists,in ascending order,of the upper Huayuanqiang Formation(C),the Yangshan Formation(C),the Daorenchong Formation(C),the most widely distributed Huyoufang Formation(C) and the Yangxiaozhuang Formation (C).The provenance of the Carboniferous sedimentary rocks is constrained by the integration of trace elements,detrital mineral chemistry and sensitive high resolution ion microprobe(SHRIMP) dating of detrital zircons,which can help to understand the connection between the provenance and the Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Qinling-Dabie Orogen.The trace element compositions indicate that the source terrain was probably a continental island arc.Detrital tourmalines were mainly derived from aluminous and Al-poor metapelites and metapsammites,and some are sourced from Li-poor granitoids, pegmatites and aplttes.Detrital garnets,found only in the uppermost Huyoufang Formation,are almandine and Mn-almandine garnets,indicating probable sources mainly from garnetiferous schists,and partly from granitoid rocks.The detrital white Kmicas are muscovitic in the Huayuanqiang,Daorenchong and Huyoufang Formations,and phengitic with Si contents(p.f.u.) from 3.20 up to max.3.47-3.53 in the uppermost Huyoufang and the Yangxiaozhuang Formations,a meta-sedimentary source. Major components in the detrital zircon age structure for the Huyoufang Formation range from 506 to 363 Ma,centering on - 400 and - 480 Ma,which is characteristic of the Qinling and Eriangping Groups in the Qinling and Tongbai Mountains, central China.Evidently,the major source of the Carboniferous sedimentary rocks in the northern margin of Dabie Mountains was from the southern margin of the Sino-Korean Craton represented by the Qinling and Eriangping Groups.The source area was an island-arc system during the Early Paleozoic that collided with the Sino-Korea plate towards the end of the Early Paleozoic or during the Devonian

Air pollution has become a major problem in urban areas due to increasing industrialization and urbanization.In this study ambient concentrations of PM1 and metal concentrations as well as source contributions were identified and quantified by using Positive Matrix Factorization(PMF)in receptor modeling in the Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre,Brazil.The PM1 samples were collected on PTFE filters from December 2012 to December 2014 in two sampling sites.Major ion and trace element concentrations were assessed.The average concentrations were 12.8 and 15.2μg/m^(3) for Canoas and Sapucaia do Sul sites,respectively.Major ion contributions of PM1 were secondary pollutants such as sulfate and nitrate.trace elements,especially Cu,Pb,Zn,Cd,and Ni also made important contributions which are directly associated with anthropogenic contributions.Our results show significantly higher levels in winter than in summer.Most of the PM1 and the analyzed PM species and elements originated from anthropogenic sources,especially road traffic,combustion processes and industrial activities,which are grouped in 7 major contributing sources.A back-trajectory analysis showed that the long-range transport of pollutants was not relevant in relation to the contribution to PM1 and metal concentrations.This work highlights the importance of urban planning to reduce human health exposure to traffic and industrial emissions,combined with awareness-raising actions for citizens concerning the impact of indoor sources.
