Double helix DNAs become intertwined around one another during replication and recombination.Here we used magnetic tweezers to make braided DNA molecules and measured their torques under various catenations(Ca)at forces ranging from 0.3 to 8 pN.Images of braided DNA constructs under tensions were captured by scanning electron microscopy which showed major and minor grooves of DNAs and plectonemes of the braids.When the two DNA molecules were braided,the extension decreased as the catenation increased from 0 to 50 turns.We used a thermodynamic Maxwell relation to deduce the torque by integrating the change in the braid extension as a function of the force.The torque increased with the catenation,force and intertether distance until the catenation reached a buckling point.Under the condition of 2 pN force and Ca=20,the torque was computed to be 31,21 and 15 pN nm for the braids of which the intertether distances were 54%,31%and 26%of the DNA contour length,respectively.At an 8.03 pN holding force,the torque was computed to be 76 pN nm as the catenation increased from 0 to 30 turns,or as the catenation density varied from 0 to 0.053.The torque reached a plateau when the catenation increased above 20,indicating formation of braid-plectonemes.The twist modulus increased with the catenation prior to reaching a peak.Before reaching the peak,the moduli were higher than those of a single twisted DNA under the same catenation and applied force.Our experimental data agrees well with the calculation results by a recently developed semiflexible polymer model.Our measurements of the nonlinear torque of the braid establish new fundamental properties of DNA intertwining,which is key to understanding DNA replication and gene expression.The speaker will also introduce briefly other projects in the Xiao group including direct measurements of theforce spectrum of single unlabeled proteins such as adhesive nano-fibers for biofilm,the screening of integrin-targeted peptides drugs by single cell approaches,and the micromechanical appro

In the compact spinning with lattice apron, twist distribution of the fiber bundle in the compact zone is influenced by the airflow. In order to study the twist change of the fiber bundle in the compact zone,a theoretical model was established and the twist was calculated based on the experimental parameters. Experiments were carried out to verify the theoretical model. Theoretical and experimental results show consistency. The study indicates that the twist distribution of the fiber bundle in the compact zone is related to the tension, the offset angle and the linear density of the fiber bundle.

Forty-two (male 28, female 14) athletes with quadriceps / hamstring strain, or knee injury were the subjects. The strength of knee extensor and nexor were measured on Bodex system before,during, and after rehabilitation. Peak torque of 60°/sec concentric, 240°/sec concentric, and 60°/sec eccentric contrsction were taken and evaluated using the"Evaluation Scales", and torque Curves were analysed. The results indicated: except Hamstring /Quadriceps torque Ratio of 60°/sec concentric contraction of involved side much higher, and Involved/ Uninvolved torque Ratio lower, the abnormal torque Curve of quadriceps (60°/sec concentric) may be a good indicator of quadriceps strain, knee sprain, and chronic knee injury. Abnormal torque Curve might also be used in selecting athletes. When the subjects took part in the rehabilitation program according to the Biodex reports, the results were satisfying.

This paper built a power transmission model based on Hybrid Electric Vehicle（HEV）.Based on this model,the Kalman filtering algorithm which was used to estimate the clutch transmitting was derived by the state vector that was constituted by the engine rotation torque and speed.The PID controller which was built for clutch transmitting torque based on the Kalman filtering was used to control the deviation for estimated value and the target torque,and to analyze control errors by comparing the controlled and simulated values of the clutch torque for vehicle starting process by engine-driven.The conclusion show that the PID controller has the sufficient accuracy and response speed.Therefore,the PID controller for clutch transmitting torque are feasible.

Mechanical properties and material mixing patterns of friction stir spot welded (FSSW) joints of dissimilar aluminum alloys were investigated.Two aluminum alloys typically used in automotive applications,5052-H32 and 6061-T6,were selected.During the experiment,the process parameters including the z-axis force and torque histories were measured as a function of the tool displacement.The mechanical properties were investigated by microhardness measurements of the joint,and the material mixing in the stir zone was investigated by EPMA.The experimental results illustrate different process parameter histories,material mixing in the stir zone and material properties including microhardness distributions for FSSW joints of dissimilar aluminum alloys,likely due to different mechanical behaviors of the selected aluminum alloys in the FSSW process temperature range.

根据BESIII集群的实际需求,在测试和研究了不同类型的高能物理数据处理作业不同配置机器上的运行效果的基础上,提出了一种改进的DRF资源分配算法,加入了机器性能评级和作业类型匹配两个因素作为资源调度的依据,对算法进行实现并使用真实数据进行了实验测试。测试结果表明:新算法能够更加合理地分配资源,有效提高系统资源利用率,缩短作业运行时间。
