Uterine cervical cancer still remains an important socioeconomic issue because it largely affects women of reproductive *** is highly depended on extent of the disease at diagnosis and,therefore,accurate staging is crucial for optimal *** cancer is clinically staged,according to International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics guidelines,but,currently,there is increased use of cross sectional imaging modalities [computed tomography(CT),magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),positron emission tomography-CT(PET-CT)] for the study of important prognostic factors like tumor size,parametrial invasion,endocervical extension,pelvic side wall or adjacent/distal organs involvement and lymph node *** indications also include cervical cancer follow-up,evaluation of tumor response to treatment and selection of suitable candidates for less radical surgeries like radical trachelectomy for fertility *** preferred imaging method for local cervical cancer evaluation is MRI;CT is equally effective for evaluation of extrauterine spread of the *** shows high diagnostic performance for the detection of tumor relapse and metastatic lymph *** aim of this review is to familiarize radiologists with the MRI appearance of cervical carcinoma and to discuss the indications of cross sectional imaging during the course of the disease in patients with cervical carcinoma.

AIM:To assess retrospectively the significance of accessory spleen-like mass(ASLM) in oncology patients undergoing positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT).METHODS:The results of PET/CT of 913 patients(278 lymphoma;635 solid tumors) were *** number,size,location and attenuation of all ASLMs,and spleen attenuation,were *** fluorodeoxyglucose uptake was graded as normal(less than or equal to that in the liver) or representative of malignancy(more than in the liver).Follow-up PET/CT in patients with ASLM was reviewed when *** size and attenuation for spleen and ASLM were compared by unpaired Student's t *** χ2 and Fisher's exact tests were used to compare ASLM frequency and uptake for lymphomatous and solid tumors,***:ASLM frequency was 14.8,with 152 ASLMs found in 135 *** attenuation was lower in ASLM compared with spleen by enhanced and nonenhanced CT(80.7 ± 20.4 HU vs 92.0 ± 14.4 HU,P < 0.0011 and 42.3 ± 9.0 HU vs 51.5 ± 6.3 HU,P < 0.0001,respectively).ASLM incidence was higher in lymphoma patients(56/278,20.1) than in those with solid tumors(56/278,20.1 vs 79/635,12.4,P = 0.0036).Pathological uptake was found in four(7.1) lymphoma patients but not in any patients with a solid tumor(P = 0.028) and it upstaged one patient with ***-up PET/CT within 3-16 mo was available in 54 of patients with *** regression was noted in all four pathological ASLMs on follow-up PET/CT after ***:In patients with lymphoma,ASLM can represent malignancy,and thus further characterization with PET/CT might be *** with neoplasia other than ASLM can be confidently diagnosed with accessory spleen.

Malignant Triton Tumor in the Abdominal Wall: A Case Report

Malignant triton tumor (MTT) is a rare variant of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) with rhabdomyosarcomatous differentiation. We report the case of a 54-year-old male without a history of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) who had a growing abdominal wall tumor diagnosed as MTT. computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 2-[F-18]-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/CT (FDG-PET/CT) were performed. The MRI and FDG-PET/CT indicated that the lateral component of the tumor was composed of many proliferative cells, corresponding to the histopathological finding of a cellular proliferation of spindle-shaped cells. In light of this case and previous reports, it is apparent that FDG-PET/CT is a helpful tool for distinguishing MTT from benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor.

Postoperative reactive lymphadenitis: A potential cause of false-positive FDG PET/CT

A wide variety of surgical related uptake has been reported on F18-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(FDG PET/CT) scan, most of which can be differentiated from neoplastic process based on the pattern of FDG uptake and/or anatomic appearance on the integrated CT in image interpretation. A more potential problem we may be aware is postoperative reactive lymphadenitis, which may mimic regional nodal metastases on FDG PET/CT. This review presents five case examples demonstrating that postoperative reactive lymphadenitis could be a false-positive source for regional nodal metastasis on FDG PET/CT. Surgical oncologists and radiologists should be aware of reactive lymphadenitis in interpreting postoperative restaging FDG PET/CT scan when FDG avid lymphadenopathy is only seen in the lymphatic draining location from surgical site.

Psoas muscle metastasis from cervical carcinoma:Correlation and comparison of diagnostic features on FDG-PET/CT and diffusion-weighted MRI

Psoas muscle metastasis, though rare, is the commonest site of skeletal muscle involvement in cervical carcinoma. The appropriate clinical management of this condition, particularly of the pain related to malignant psoas syndrome, is still evolving and the diagnostic features on conventional morphological imaging modalities are often non specific, with the differential diagnosis lying between sarcoma, hematoma, and abscess. In this report, a comparison of various morphofunctional imaging modalities was made. Fluorodeoxyglucosepositron emission tomography(FDG-PET)/computed tomography(CT) was the first to suspect disease involvement of the psoas muscle, demonstrating intense FDG uptake(compared with the contralateral muscle), while ultrasound showed heterogeneous echotexture, and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) showed subtle altered signal intensity in the right psoas muscle. Both anatomical imaging modalities and non contrast CT of the PET-CT examination demonstrated a bulky psoas muscle, without any focal abnormality. On diffusionweighted imaging of MRI(DWI-MRI), restricted diffusion of the involved muscle was an important observation. The psoas muscle metastatic involvement was proven histopathologically. Thus, enhanced glucose metabolism and restricted diffusion in the newer noninvasive molecular imaging modalities(e.g., PET/CT and DWI-MRI) could serve as valuable adjunctive parameters in diagnosing this entity in the absence of a focal abnormality in the anatomical modalities. In the treatment response monitoring scenario, FDG-PET/CT demonstrated near complete resolution following administration of 3 cycles of systemic chemotherapy and local external radiotherapy.
