High-throughput single-cell analysis is a challenging task.Label-free tomographic phase microscopy is an excellent candidate to perform this task.However,in-line tomography is very difficult to implement in practice because it requires a complex set-up for rotating the sample and examining the cell along several directions.We demonstrate that by exploiting the random rolling of cells while they are flowing along a microfluidic channel,it is possible to obtain in-line phase-contrast tomography,if smart strategies for wavefront analysis are adopted.In fact,surprisingly,a priori knowledge of the three-dimensional position and orientation of rotating cells is no longer needed because this information can be completely retrieved through digital holography wavefront numerical analysis.This approach makes continuous-flow cytotomography suitable for practical operation in real-world,single-cell analysis and with a substantial simplification of the optical system;that is,no mechanical scanning or multi-direction probing is required.A demonstration is given for two completely different classes of biosamples:red blood cells and diatom algae.An accurate characterization of both types of cells is reported,despite their very different nature and material content,thus showing that the proposed method can be extended by adopting two alternate strategies of wavefront analysis to many classes of cells.

Recently, a novel reference-frame-independent measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution protocol was proposed, which can remove all detector side channels as well as tolerate unknown and slow variance of reference frame without active alignment. In this paper, we propose a new tomographic method to estimate the key rate in that protocol. We estimate the key rate using conventional method and tomographic method respectively and compare the two methods by numerical simulation. The numerical simulation results show that tomographic approach is equivalent to the conventional approach, which can be used as an alternative method.

Narrow-band tomographic radar imaging of precession cone targets

The principle and method of the narrow-band tomo-graphic radar imaging （NBTRI） of the precession cone target are studied. Firstly, the motion model and electromagnetic scattering characteristics of the precession cone target are introduced. Secondly, based on the traditional NBTRI algorithm, a novel narrow-band tomography clean radar imaging （NBTCRI） algorithm is proposed to enhance the image quality of NBTRI results. In addition, the resolution performance of the NBTRI algorithm is analyzed. Finally, based on the ideal scattering point model, this paper discusses the relationship between the precession angle and the estimated target size from NBTRI results. By using the target＇s chamber data, NBTRI and NBTCRI results of the precession cone target are further analyzed, which indicates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Spray Characteristics with High-Speed tomographic Particle Image Velocimetry Under Non-Flash and Flash Boiling Conditions

Compared with port fuel injection engines, direct injection(DI) gasoline engine is becoming the mainstream of gasoline engines because of its higher fuel economy and excellent transient response. It has been proven that fuel spray characteristics in DI engines are crucial to the performance and emission quality of the engine. Flash boiling spray has great potential to achieve high fuel economy and low emission by dramatically improving the fuel atomization and vaporization and it has different spray-air interaction behavior as compared with non-flash boiling one, while its mechanism is more complex as compared with subcooled spray. We investigate the time-resolved spatial velocity field of the spray using 2-camera high-speed 3 D3 C(3-dimension 3-component)tomographic particle image velocimetry(PIV) diagnostic technique. A 10 mm thick laser sheet is used to illuminate the fuel spray. Characteristics of both non-flash and flash boiling sprays are studied. A single-hole injector is mounted within a heat exchanger so that different fuel temperature can be accessed. In the experiment, n-pentane is used as the fuel. For the non-flash boiling spray, the velocity field of the liquid spray is mostly consistent to the injection direction. With the increase of the degree of superheat(Do S), the overall velocity scale decreases especially at the spray tip. Meanwhile, larger swirls occur at the lower part of the flash boiling spray, which means stronger spray-air interaction occurs at a higher Do S.

THE HIGH RESOLUTION SEISMIC tomographic IMAGE IN QINGHAI—TIBET PLATEAU AND ITS DYNAMIC IMPLICATIONS

The Qinghai—Tibet plateau and its surrounding areas including Indian subcontinent, Xinjiang, Mongolia, is a largest lithosphere convergence place in the world, which characterized by continent\|continent collision with a thick crust and lithosphere. The high resolution seismic surface wave tomographic inversion has been conducted for studying the 3D velocity structure of crust and upper mantle in those areas. The seismic surface waveform data are from the archives of the CDSN, GSN and GEOSCOPE. About 2400 long period surface waveform recordings are available for both dispersion and waveform tomographic inversion. The block inversion by grid 1°×1°in Qinghai—Tibet plateau and 2°×2°in the surrounding areas were adapted. The resulting maps show the high resolution 3D shear wave velocity variation from earth’s surface to 400km depth.

Incremental value of preprocedural coronary computed tomographic angiography to classical coronary angiography for prediction of PCI complexity in left main stenosis

Introduction: The aim of our study was to assess the incremental value of Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) added to classical coronary angiography, for complex characterization of coronary lesions and prediction of procedural complexity in patients with significant left main (LM) stenoses. Material and Methods: Thirty-six patients with LM disease were enrolled in the study, and each subject underwent CCTA followed by coronary angiography and percutaneous revascularization. Results: Logistic regression analysis indicated a good correlation between the angiographic-calculated and the CCTA-derived Syntax scores for the whole group (r = 0.87, p < 0.0001) and for the high risk subgroup (r = 0.86, p < 0.0001), but not for the low and intermediate risk (r = 0.38, p = 0.21 and r = 0.62, p = 0.07 respectively). In cases which required complex PCI procedures, both angiographic and CCTA Syntax score were significantly higher than those who did not require complex revascularization procedures (24.5 +/-11.5 vs 32.2 +/-14.6, p = 0.09 for Angio Syntax, 35.3 +/-11.5 vs 25.2 +/-11.3, p = 0.01 for CCTA). In the same time, Ca scoring was significantly higher and plaque volumes were significantly larger in cases requiring complex revascularization procedures (299.5 +/-359.6 vs 917.3 +/-495.4, p = 0.04 for calcium score, 79.7 +/-28.5 vs 108.7 +/-25.3 mm3, p = 0.002 for plaque volumes). Multivariate analysis identified the following CCTA parameters as significant predictors of increased risk for complex intervention in LM lesions: plaque volume (OR 8.00, p = 0.008), Ca scoring (OR 6.37, p = 0.02) and CCTA Syntax score (OR 6.87, p = 0.01). Conclusions: CCTA derived parameters provide incremental information to classical coronary angiography for preoperative assessment of lesion severity in complex left main stenosis. CCTA derived Syntax score significantly correlates with the classical Coronary Angiography Syntax score and identifies the subgroup of patients who will be more exposed to procedural complications during the

Role of Computed tomographic Scanning in Pediatric Head Injury: An Observational Cohort of Data of 60 Patients

Pediatric head injury is one of the major health problems. That can be easily evaluated by computed tomographic scanning. This study describes the various findings of pediatric head trauma seen on CT scan, the timely diagnosis of which plays a vital role in prognosis, especially in semiurban and remote location where the decision for tertiary referral is important. Timely intervention in traumatic brain injury cases reduces morbidity and mortality. Cerebral edema, which is the most common intracranial lesion, can be promptly managed by medicosurgical support with ICP monitoring, thereby improving the overall prognosis. Other lesions commonly seen are subdural hematomas and skull fractures. Limitations of radiographs, ultrasound and MRI in these acute cases, highlight the benefit of CT scans.

Differentiating Crohn's disease from intestinal tuberculosis

Differentiating Crohn's disease(CD) and intestinal tuberculosis(ITB) has remained a dilemma for most of the clinicians in the developing world, which are endemic for ITB, and where the disease burden of inflammatory bowel disease is on the rise. Although, there are certain clinical(diarrhea/hematochezia/perianal disease common in CD; fever/night sweats common in ITB), endoscopic(longitudinal/aphthous ulcers common in CD; transverse ulcers/patulous ileocaecal valve common in ITB), histologic(caseating/confluent/large granuloma common in ITB; microgranuloma common in CD), microbiologic(positive stain/culture for acid fast-bacillus in ITB), radiologic(long segment involvement/comb sign/skip lesions common in CD; necrotic lymph node/contiguous ileocaecal involvement common in ITB), and serologic differences between CD and ITB, the only exclusive features are caseation necrosis on biopsy, positive smear for acid-fast bacillus(AFB) and/or AFB culture, and necrotic lymph node on cross-sectional imaging in ITB. However,these exclusive features are limited by poor sensitivity, and this has led to the development of multiple multi-parametric predictive models. These models are also limited by complex formulae, small sample size and lack of validation across other populations. Several new parameters have come up including the latest Bayesian meta-analysis, enumeration of peripheral blood T-regulatory cells, and updated computed tomography based predictive score. However, therapeutic anti-tubercular therapy(ATT) trial, and subsequent clinical and endoscopic response to ATT is still required in a significant proportion of patients to establish the diagnosis. Therapeutic ATT trial is associated with a delay in the diagnosis of CD, and there is a need for better modalities for improved differentiation and reduction in the need for ATT trial.

Myocardial bridging analysis by coronary computed tomographic angiography in a Saudi population

AIM: To assess the incidence, location, morphology and clinical association of myocardial bridging in a Saudi population using coronary computed tomographic angiography(CCTA). METHODS: A total of 350 CCTA of Saudi patients were included in this study(236 men, 114 women) with a mean age of 56.3 years. All patients were examined for appropriateness criteria of CCTA indications(typical chest pain, recent onset cardiomyopathy, left bundle branch block, etc.). The scans were retrospectively reviewed for the presence of myocardial bridging and any other pathological association. RESULTS: Myocardial bridging was found in 89 of 350(22.5%) patients. Most of the intramuscular segments were of the superficial type and found in the mid left anterior descending(LAD)(24.6%), followed by distal LAD(3.7%), diagonal branches(2%), ramus intermedius artery(1.4%) and obtuse marginal artery(0.8%). No myocardial bridging was detected in the right coronary or circumflex arteries. No significant differences were found between males and females(P = 0.14). Coronary artery atherosclerosis was found in 51 of 89(57.3%) patients with MB. Atherosclerotic plaques were not detected in the intramuscular or distal segment of bridging arteries. Dynamic compression was observed in 35(94.5%) patients with full encasement. No evidence of myocardial hypoperfusion was found in the territories supplied by the bridging arteries. CONCLUSION: CCTA is excellent in analyzing myocardial bridging in a Saudi population and the results are comparable to other populations. However, finding the real incidence may need a large multicenter study.
