Root hairs(RHs)grow in a polar manner as cylindrical protrusions from the root epidermis.They significantly expand the root volume in the rhizosphere to search for water and nutrients,anchor the plant,and promote interactions with several kinds of microorganisms in the soil.Trichoblasts,the epidermis cell type responsible for RH development,switch from anisotropic cell elongation to tip growth through polarization of the growth machinery to a predefined RH initiation domain(RHID)at the plasma membrane.

Dear Editor,Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the third most common malignant tumor in human,ranking third in cancer-related mortality.1 Most colon cancer patients die of metastasis.2 Intriguingly,the deregulation of tumor necrosis factorα‑induced protein 8(tipE)has been shown to play a vital regulatory role in tumor cell growth,proliferation,invasion,and metastasis.3 tipE is a kind of cytoplasmic protein of 23 kDa.A large number of studies have shown that tipE is closely related to the development of colon cancer.4 In addition,decreased expression of tipE was linked to down-regulation of matrix metallopeptidase-1(MMP-1),MMP-9,and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 in breast cancer.

Review on cochlear implant electrode array tip fold-over and scalar deviation

Objective: Determine the occurrence rate of cochlear implant (CI) electrode tip fold-over and electrode scalar deviation as reported in patient cases with different commercial electrode types. Data-sources: PubMed search for identifying peer-reviewed articles published till 2018 on CI electrode tip fold-over and scalar deviation. Key-words for searching were “Cochlear electrode tip fold-over”,“Cochlear electrode scalar position” and “Cochlear electrode scalar location”. Articles-selection: Only if electrode related issues were investigated in patient cases. 38 articles met the inclusion-criteria. Results: 13 articles on electrode tip fold-over issue covering 3177 implanted ears, out of which 50 ears were identified with electrode tip fold-over with an occurrence rate of 1.57%. Out of 50 ears, 43 were implanted with pre-curved electrodes and the remaining 7 with lateral-wall electrodes. One article reported on both tip fold-over and scalar deviation. 26 articles reported on the electrode scalar deviation covering an overall number of 2046 ears out of which, 458 were identified with electrode scalar deviation at a rate of 22.38%. After removing the studies that did not report on the number of electrodes per electrode type, it was 1324 ears implanted with pre-curved electrode and 507 ears with lateral-wall electrode. Out of 1324 pre-curved electrode implanted ears, 424 were reported with scalar deviation making an occurrence rate of 32%. Out of 507 lateral-wall electrode implanted ears, 43 were associated with scalar deviation at an occurrence rate of 6.7%. Conclusion: This literature review revealing the fact of higher rate of electrode insertion trauma associated with pre-curved electrode type irrespective of CI brand is one step closer to obsolete it from the clinical practice in the interest of patient's cochlear health.

Steering ultrafast electron dynamics with well-controlled laser fields is very important for generation of intense supercontinuum radiation.It can be achieved through coherent control of the symmetry of the interaction between strong-field laser fields and a metal nanotip.We employ a scheme of two-color laser pulses combined with a weak static field to realize the control of a single quantum path to generate high harmonic generation from a single solid-state nanoemitter.Moreover,a smooth and ultrabroad supercontinuum in the extreme ultraviolet region is obtained,which can produce a single attosecond pulse.Our findings are beneficial for efficient generation of isolated sub-100 as XUV pulses from solid-state sources.

To predict fracture height in hydraulic fracturing, we developed and solved a hydraulic fracture height mathematical model aiming at high stress and multi-layered complex formations based on studying the effect of plastic region generated by stress concentration at fracture tip on the growth of fracture height. Moreover, we compared the results from this model with results from two other fracture height prediction models(MFEH, Frac Pro) to verify the accuracy of the model. Sensitivity analysis by case computation of the model shows that the hydraulic fracture growth in ladder pattern, and the larger the fracture height, the more obvious the ladder growth pattern is. Fracture height growth is mainly influenced by the in-situ stresses. Fracture toughness of rock can prohibit the growth of fracture height to some extent. Moreover, the increase of fracturing fluid density can facilitate the propagation of the lower fracture tip.

Effect of prolactin on penile erection:a cross-sectional study

Although elevated prolactin levels have been shown to inhibit penile erection,the relationship between prolactin and erection of the penile tip or base has not been extensively researched.We therefore investigated the prolactin's effects on erecti on of the penile tip and base,with a cross-secti onal study of 135 patie nts with erectile dysfuncti on,based on scores of M21 on the In ternational Index of Erectile Function-5.All patients were tested for nocturnal penile tumescenee,blood pressure,serum glucose,total cholesterol,triglyceride,high-density lipoprotein,low-density lipoprotein,luteinizing hormone,follicle-stimulating hormone,prolactin,estradiol,testosterone,and progesterone.Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to assess the associations between prolactin levels and erection at the penile tip and base.We found no obvious relati on ship between erection time at penile tip and prolactin levels,but observed a negative correlation between base erection time and prolactin level(hazard ratio:-2.68;95%confidence interval[Cl]:-5.13-0.22).With increasing prolactin concentration,multivariate analysis showed obvious reduction in base erection time among patients with normal Rigiscan results(hazard ratio:-3.10;95%Cl:-7.96-1.77;P<0.05).Our data indicate that prolactin inhibits penile erection,particularly at the penile base.In addition,when the effective erection time of the penile base lasts longer than 10 min,prolactin has a more obvious inhibitory effect on penile base erection.

Numerical Simulation of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Helicopter Rotor with tip Slots

Effects of tip slots on the aerodynamic characteristics of helicopter rotor were investigated numerically by solving three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations based on unstructured overset grids algorithm.Improved delayed detached eddy simulation (IDDES) based on the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model and adaptive grid refinement technique were employed.Several slots in the rotor blade tip were designed on the base of Caradonna-Tung rotor to study the effect of tip slots.Numerical results show that tip slots are able to introduce the airflow from the leading edge and turn it in the spanwise direction to be ejected out of the face at the rotor blade tip,which can reduce the strength of the rotor blade tip vortex and accelerate the dissipation process.Although tip slots may lead to the decrease of airfoils' lift coefficient at the root of the rotor blade,it can increase the lift coefficient of airfoils at the rotor blade tip,so the lift of the rotor with tip slots is almost the same as that of the rotor without tip slots.In addition,tip slots can also reduce the intensity of the tip shock wave,which is beneficial to reduce the wave drag of the rotor.

Regulation of flowering is one of the key issues in crop yield. The Floiuering Loews T(FT) gene is a well-known florigen, which integrates various signals from multiple flowering-regulation pathways to initiate flowering. We previously reported that there are at least six FT genes(GmFTLl-6) in soybean displaying flowering activity. However, the individual functions of genes GmFTLl-6 remain to be identified. In this study, we cloned the GmFTL2 promoter(GmFTLpro) from soybean(Glycine max) cultivar Tianlong 1 and analyzed its motifs bioinformatically and its expression patterns using both a transgenic approach and quantitative RT-PCR(qRT-PCR). In GmFTLpro::GUS transgenic lines, GUS signals were enriched in cotyledons, hypocotyledons, pollen, embryos, and root tips in a photoperiod-independent manner. qRT-PCR confirmed the GUS reporter results. Our results suggest that GmFTL2 expression is regulated by developmental and tissue-specific clues and plays roles in seedling establishment and the development of micro game tophytes, embryos, and roots.

目的:回顾性分析并随访Snodgrass术后尿道下裂患者,了解其并发症,排尿功能,阴茎外观满意度,性功能等方面的情况,为尿道下裂的手术治疗提供依据。方法:回顾性收集2005年1月至2012年12月在本院行Snodgrass术治疗尿道下裂患者资料,利用预先设计好的随访调查表通过电话随访,微信联系,门诊面谈等方式进行随访。结果:在我院行Snodgrass术治疗的274例患者中,根据尿道下裂类型分为近端型尿道下裂,中间型尿道下裂,远端型尿道下裂。三组总体并发症比较差异有统计学意义(?=16.723,P=0.000,P<0.05)。排尿情况:发生排尿障碍的患者随着尿道下裂的严重逐渐增多。三种类型的尿道下裂患者发生排尿障碍比较差异有统计学意义(?=11.547,P=0.003,P<0.05)。整体外观满意度:三种类型的尿道下裂患者满意度比较差异有统计学意义(?=14.72,P=0.001,P<0.05)。性功能:尿道下裂程度越严重,患者勃起功能障碍发生率越高,三组比较有统计学意义(P=0.034)。不同阴茎外观满意比较勃起功能(P=0.026),统计学有差异。根据有无并发症分为有并发症组和无并发症组比较勃起功能得出(P=0.004),统计学有差异。结论:Snodgrass术远期疗较好,满意度较高。随着尿道下裂越严重,患者对阴茎外观满意度越低,满意度低的患者及尿道下裂严重的患者出现勃起功能障碍的几率越大。

为了实现对一种导电tip头进行气密性检测,防止tip漏液,设计了一种tip气密性检测系统,采用模块化设计思想,分别对tip取退装置、用以控制所述tip取退装置运行的控制系统、用以向控制系统下发参数和指令的人机交互客户端、用以向所述tip取退装置和所述人机交互客户端及所述控制系统供电的电源箱进行设计,并搭建实验平台进行验证。结果表明,本设计满足时长180秒的气密性检测,达到tip气密性检测系统设计要求。
