thyroid dysfunction in Chinese hepatitis C patients: Prevalence and correlation with TPOAb and CXCL10

Texture Feature Extraction from thyroid MR Imaging Using High-Order Derived Mean CLBP

In the field of medical imaging,the traditional local binary pattern (LBP)and its improved algorithms are often sensitive to *** LBPs are solely based on the signal information from local differences,and the binary quantization method oversimplifies the local texture features while disregarding the imaging information from the concaveconvex regions between the high-order pixels and the neighboring sampling ***,we propose an improved Derived Mean Complete Local Binary Pattern (DM_CLBP) algorithm based on high-order *** the DM_CLBP method,the grey value of a single pixel is replaced by the mean grey value of the rectangular area block,and the difference between pixel values in the area is obtained using the second-order differentiation *** on the calculation concept of the complete local binary pattern (CLBP)algorithm,the cascade signs and magnitudes of the two components are encoded and recombined in DM_CLBP using a uniform *** results from the experiments showed that the proposed DM_CLBP descriptors achieved a classification accuracy of 94.4%.Compared with LBP and other improved algorithms,the DM_CLBP algorithm presented in this study can effectively differentiate between lesion areas and normal areas in thyroid MR,(magnetic resonance)images and shows the improved accuracy of area classification.

The present analysis aims to investigate the prevalence of thyroid nodules in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) *** searched PubMed,EMBASE,and Web of Science from inception to the March 1,*** studies were selected to estimate the prevalence of thyroid nodules in T2DM subjects and to compare the prevalence of thyroid nodules in different glucose tolerance *** random effects model was used,and the outcome was presented as a pooled prevalence proportion with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) or a summary odds ratio (OR) with 95% *** the end,9 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the *** pooled prevalence of thyroid nodules was 60%(95% CI:0.52,0.68) for T2DM 2 diabetes patients,50%(95% CI:0.4& 0.51) for pre-diabetes,and 43%(95% CI:0.34,0.52) for normal glucose tolerance *** with patients without diabetes,diabetes subjects are more likely to develop thyroid nodules,adjusted OR for thyroid nodule was 1.78 (95% CI:1.25,2.55).Insulin resistance might be involved in thyroid nodule development.

BACKGROUND： Zinc （Zn） has been shown to greatly influence brain development. Zn supplements may reduce injury to cell membranes of the thyroid gland due to iodine deficiency. OBJECTIVE： To establish an iodine deficiency rat model using low-iodine food, which was supplemented with compound Zn and Zn gluconate, to observe the effects of Zn on brain development, as well as pituitary gland and thyroid gland function in iodine-deficient rats. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： Randomized grouping study of neural development was performed in the central laboratory of Shandong Institute for Prevention and Treatment of Endemic Disease from 1998 to 1999. MATERIALS： A total of 270 Wistar, female rats, one month after weaning, were used in this study, including 150 pregnant and 120 neonatal rats. Rats were randomly divided into six groups： normal control, model, iodine, compound Zn, iodine and compound Zn, and zinc gluconate. Each group contained 25 pregnant rats and 20 neonatal rats. METHODS： The pregnant rats and 20 neonatal rats, and well as the normal group, were fed standard chow and allowed free access to tap water （containing 5 u g/L iodine and 1 mg/L Zn）. The remaining five groups were fed low-iodine chow. However, the model group received distilled water, the iodine group received potassium-iodide distilled water （containing 300 u g/L iodine）, the compound Zn group received distilled water and intragastrically administrated 10 mL/kg compound Zn solution, once per day, the iodine and compound Zn group received distilled water with 300 u g/L iodine and intragastrically administrated 10 mL/kg compound Zn solution, once per day. All treatments lasted 90 days. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： All pregnant rats were sacrificed on the day 21 of pregnancy. The transcription of iodothyronine deiodinase genes is regulated by thyroid hormone receptor in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas

thyroid hormones (THs) are indispensable for each phyla in Chordata, while their functions in the non-chordate invertebrates are indistinct. Studies on the TH system in non-chordate invertebrates are important for understanding the evolution of TH system and may be applied in aquaculture or biofouling control at the same time. Iodothyronine deiodinases are keys to studying the TH system, as they are critical enzymes in maintaining TH homeostasis by catalyzing the initiation and termination of the effects of thyroid hormone in vertebrates. Here, we report the primary physiological effects of T4, the outer ring deiodinase activity, and a similar transcription regulation of two oyster deiodinases by TH receptor (CgTR) in an invertebrate, Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas. L-thyroxine (T4) may have an important physiological function in the oyster, suggested by the growth retardation effect of excessive T4 in umbo larvae stage. The outer ring deiodinase activity transforming T4 to T3 (3, 3', 5-triiodothyronine) was then detected in the Pacific oyster in vivo, which may be conducted by two oyster deiodinases (CgDx and CgDy). Transcription regulation of CgTR onto these two deiodinase genes was also verified by electrophoretic mobility shift assay and dual luciferase reporter assay in mammalian cells. These results contribute to a better understanding of the evolution of the TH system.

The roles of thyroid hormone receptor and T3 in metamorphosis of Haliotis diversicolor

thyroid hormone is a kind of important hormone which regulates metamorphosis. Its role is well described in amphibian metamorphosis. thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) have also been demonstrated to play a role in metamorphosis of marine invertebrates. However, the mechanism of thyroid hormone in metamorphosis of marine invertebrates remains unknown. A homolog of vertebrate thyroid hormone receptor (TR) was cloned and identified in abalone Haliotis diversicolor and was named HdTR . The mRNA expressions of HdTR , thyroid peroxidase ( TPO ), thyroid peroxidase 1 ( TPO1 ), idothyronine deiodinase Ⅲ( IDⅢ) and integrin alpha-V ( ITGAV ) had significant diff erence in metamorphosis of H . diversicolor . Metamorphosis rate and mortality rate were significantly diff erent in HdTR RNAi experiment and T3 inducing experiment. In RNAi experiment, ITGAV and CCND1 (cyclin D1) expression of dsRNA HdTR exposing group were significantly lower than those of blank control and negative control. But CTNNB (catenin beta) expression of dsRNA HdTR exposing group was higher than that those of blank control and negative control. ERK (extracellular signal regulated kinases) and PI3K (phosphoinositide-3-kinase) had no significant diff erence in RNAi experiment. Moreover, ITGAV of 1 μmol/L T3 group was significantly lower than that of 0 μmol/L T3 group, PI3K expression of 10 μmol/L T3 group was higher than that of 0 μmol/L T3 group, and the other genes expression had no significant diff erence in T3 inducing experiment. The data of genes expression suggested that CCND1 might be an eff ector gene of TR genomic action, while CTNNB might be regulated by unliganded TR. CCND1 and CTNNB may be involved in cell proliferation of metamorphosis. T3 might regulate the expression level of PI3K via nongenomic way. These results shed light on the mechanism of thyroid hormone in abalone metamorphosis.
