A foot structure study of new arch flexibility grading system based on threedimensional arch volume

Purpose:Different arch structures may cause different foot function injuries.In the past,the arch structure and flexibility of the foot were often defined by the height of the arch,and there was no three-dimensional(3D)structure classification method.In order to form a more complete 3D description,we propose a new classification system of arch volume flexibility(AVF),and then use this new classification system to investigate the relationship between the AVF and arch index(AI),and the arch height flexibility(AHF)and AI,respectively.Methods:It is proposed to recruit 180 young male adults for the test.We obtained arch volume and AI through 3D scanning and obtained the navicular height through manual measurement.Based on these data,we calculated the AHF and the AVF.Using the quintile method,these arches are divided into very stiff,stiff,neutral,flexible,and very flexible.According to AI value,all arches were divided into cavus,rectus,and planus.The distribution of AVF was compared usingχ^(2)goodness of fit test.The spearman correlation test was used to compare the AHF and AVF.A p<0.05 indicates that the difference is statistically significant.Results:All participants'plantar data was obtained through 3D scanning,but only 159 of them were complete,so only 318 feet had valid data.The left AHF is(21.23±12.91)mm/kN,and the right AHF is(21.71±12.69)mm/kN.The AVF of the left foot arch is(207.35±118.28)mm^(3)/kg,while the right one is(203.00±117.92)mm^(3)/kg,and the total AVF of the arch was(205.17±117.94)mm^(3)/kg.There was no statistical difference in the AVF between the left and right feet for the same participant(n=159,p=0.654).In cavus,the percentage of arch with AVF is 21.4%(very stiff),21.4%(stiff),14.3%(neutral),7.1%(flexible),and 35.7%(very flexible).In rectus,the percentage of arch with AVF is 23.9%(very stiff),19.6%(stiff),14.7%(neutral),24.5%(flexible),and 17.2%(very flexible).In planus,the percentage of arch with AVF is 14.9%(very stiff),20.6%(stiff),27.0%(neutral),16.3%(flexible),and 21.3%(very flexible).Moreo

Accurate closed-form eigensolutions of three-dimensional panel flutter with arbitrary homogeneous boundary conditions

Highly accurate closed-form eigensolutions for flutter of three-dimensional(3D)panel with arbitrary combinations of simply supported(S),glide(G),clamped(C)and free(F)boundary conditions(BCs),such as cantilever panels,are achieved according to the linear thin plate theory and the first-order piston theory as well as the complex modal analysis,and all solutions are in a simple and explicit form.The iterative Separation-of-Variable(iSOV)method proposed by the pre-sent authors is employed to obtain the highly accurate eigensolutions.The flutter mechanism is studied with the benefit of eigenvalue properties from mathematical senses.The effects of boundary conditions,chord-thickness ratios,aerodynamic damping,aspect ratios and in-plane loads on flut-ter properties are examined.The results are compared with those of Kantorovich method and Galerkin method,and also coincide well with analytical solutions in literature,verifying the accu-racy of the present closed-form results.It is revealed that,(A)the flutter characteristics are domi-nated by the cross section properties of panels in the direction of stream flow;(B)two types of flutter,called coupled-mode flutter and zero-frequency flutter which includes zero-frequency single-mode flutter and buckling,are observed;(C)boundary conditions and in-plane loads can affect both flutter boundary and flutter type;(D)the flutter behavior of 3D panel is similar to that of the two-dimensional(2D)panel if the aspect ratio is up to a certain value;(E)four to six modes should be used in the Galerkin method for accurate eigensolutions,and the results converge to that of Kantorovich method which uses the same mode functions in the direction perpendicular to the stream flow.The present analysis method can be used as a reference for other stability issues characterized by complex eigenvalues,and the highly closed-form solutions are useful in parameter designs and can also be taken as benchmarks for the validation of numerical methods.

The 2016 MW7.8 Kaikoura earthquake struck the northern part of south Island,New Zealand,within the active and complex Australia-Pacific plate boundary system.Firstly,we used the InSAR method to obtain coseismic LOS deformation fields based on SAR images and applied offset tracking methods to obtain offset measurements based on optical satellite images.The maximum displacement of about 6 m is detected in the direction away from the satellite on the south-west side and also towards the satellite on the north-east side.The 3D deformation field is then resolved by the combination of these measurements with a least-square solve method,and comparisons with 3 components of GPS stations show good consistency.Despite complex features demonstrated in the 3D deformation field,there are still clear spatial correlations between surface deformation and faults distribution.It reveals that more than ten faults were ruptured during the earthquake,including some faults were previously understudies for their tectonic activities.The maximum horizontal deformation of about 10 m occurs along the Kekerengu fault with the vertical deformation up to 2 m.The 3D deformation shows that the mainshock is a multisegments faulting with a rupture process of strike-slip,compression,transpressional rupture and strike-slip in space along the NE direction.

Objective:The aim of the study was to evaluate three-dimensional virtual models(3DVMs)usefulness in the intraoperative assistance of minimally-invasive partial nephrectomy in highly complex renal tumors.Methods:At our institution cT1-2N0M0 all renal masses with Preoperative Aspects and Dimensions Used for an Anatomical classification score≥10 treated with minimally-invasive partial nephrectomy were considered for the present study.For inclusion a baseline contrast-enhanced computed tomography in order to obtain 3DVMs,the baseline and postoperative serum creatinine as well as estimated glomerular filtration rate values were needed.These patients,in which 3DVMs were used to assist the surgeon in the planning and intraoperative guidance,were then compared with a control group of patients who underwent minimally-invasive partial nephrectomy with the same renal function assessments,but without 3DVMs.Multivariable logistic regression models were used to predict the margin,ischemia,and complication score achievement.Results:Overall,79 patients met the inclusion criteria and were compared with 143 complex renal masses without 3DVM assistance.The 3DVM group showed better postoperative outcomes in terms of baseline-weighted differential estimated glomerular filtration rate(-17.7%vs.-22.2%,p=0.03),postoperative complications(16.5%vs.23.1%,p=0.03),and major complications(Clavien Dindo>III,2.5%vs.5.6%,p=0.03).At multivariable logistic regression 3DVM assistance independently predicted higher rates of successful partial nephrectomy(odds ratio:1.42,p=0.03).Conclusion:3DVMs represent a useful tool to plan a tailored surgical approach in case of surgically complex masses.They can be used in different ways,matching the surgeon's needs from the planning phase to the demolitive and reconstructive phase,leading towards maximum safety and efficacy outcomes.

In-situ constructed three-dimensional MoS_(2)–MoN heterostructure as the cathode of lithium–sulfur battery

Lithium-sulfur batteries are recognized as one of the most promising next-generation high-performance energy storage systems. However, obstacles like the irreversible capacity loss hinder its broad application. Herein,we fabricated an interconnected three-dimensional MoS_(2)-MoN heterostructure(3D-MoS_(2)-MoN) via a facile salttemplate method, overcoming the intrinsic shortcomings such as poor conductivity and compact morphology of traditionally-synthesized transition metal sulfides(TMSs).Furthermore, excellent electrocatalysis ability and hierarchical pore structure effectively accelerate the sluggish lithium polysulfides conversions during cycling. As a result, 3D-MoS_(2)-MoN showed a high initial specific capacity of 1466 mAh·g^(-1)and excellent high-rate capability up to 4℃. A stable cycling performance with a sulfur loading of 2 mg·cm^(-2) was realized with a low decay rate of 0.069% per cycle. This work introduced a rational design route for the appliance of TMSs in the lithiumsulfur batteries.

three-dimensional time-varying sliding mode guidance law against maneuvering targets with terminal angle constraint

This paper deals with the problem of intercepting maneuvering targets with terminal angle constraints for missiles subjected to three-dimensional non-decoupling engagement geometry.To achieve the finite-time interception and satisfactory overload characteristics, a time varying sliding mode control methodology is developed based on a time base generator function. The main feature of the proposed guidance law guarantees the Line-of-Sight(LOS) angles to converge to small neighborhoods of the desired values at the interception time. First, a fractional power extended state observer is used to estimate the unknown target acceleration, which can significantly reduce the adaptive switching gain. The fractional power extended state observer enjoys the advantage of better noise tolerance. Then, a newly designed sliding mode surface is constructed by introducing a time base generator function and the time-varying sliding mode guidance law is developed based on this time-varying sliding surface. The proposed guidance law significantly reduces the overload magnitudes. Numerical simulations are carried out to verify the performance of the proposed guidance law.

Electrospinning is widely accepted as a technique for the fabrication of nanofibrous three-dimensional(3D)scaffolds which mimic extracellular matrix(ECM)microenvironment for tissue engineering(TE).Unlike normal densely-packed two-dimensional(2D)nanofibrous membranes,3D electrospun nanofiber scaffolds are dedicated to more precise spatial control,endowing the scaffolds with a sufficient porosity and 3D environment similar to the in vivo settings as well as optimizing the properties,including injectability,compressibility,and bioactivity.Moreover,the 3D morphology regulates cellular interaction and mediates growth,migration,and differentiation of cell for matrix remodeling.The variation among scaffold structures,functions and applications depends on the selection of electrospinning materials and methods as well as on the post-processing of electrospun scaffolds.This review summarizes the recent new forms for building electrospun 3D nanofiber scaffolds for TE applications.A variety of approaches aimed at the fabrication of 3D electrospun scaffolds,such as multilay-ering electrospinning,sacrificial agent electrospinning,wet electrospinning,ultrasound-enhanced electrospinning as well as post-processing techniques,including gas foaming,ultrasonication,short fiber assembly,3D printing,electrospraying,and so on are discussed,along with their advantages,limitations and applications.Meanwhile,the current challenges and prospects of 3D electrospun scaffolds are rationally discussed,providing an insight into developing the vibrant fields of biomedicine.

three-dimensional Urban Thermal Effect across a Large City Cluster during an Extreme Heat Wave:Observational Analysis

Given extensive and rapid urbanization globally,assessing regional urban thermal effects(UTE)in both canopy and boundary layers under extreme weather/climate conditions is of significant interest.Rapid population and economic growth in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)have made it one of the largest city clusters in China.Here,we explore the three-dimensional(3D)UTE in the YRD using multi-source observations from high-resolution automatic weather stations,radiosondes,and eddy covariance sensors during the record-setting heat wave(HW)of July-August 2013.It is found that the regional canopy layer UTE is up to 0.6-1.2℃,and the nocturnal UTE(0.7-1.6℃)is larger than daytime UTE(0.2-0.5℃)during the HW.The regional canopy layer UTE is enhanced and expanded northwards,with some rural sites contaminated by the urban influences,especially at night.In the boundary layer,the strengthened regional UTE extends vertically to at least 925 hPa(~750 m)during this HW.The strengthened 3D UTE in the YRD is associated with an enlarged Bowen ratio difference between urban and non-urban areas.These findings about the 3D UTE are beneficial for better understanding of the thermal environment of large city clusters under HW and for more appropriate adaption and mitigation strategies.

A three-dimensional Silicon-Diacetylene Porous Organic Radical Polymer

Radical-containing porous organic polymers(POPs)have drawn great interest in various applications.However,the synthesis of radical POPs remains challenging due to the unstable nature of organic radicals.Here,a persistent and stable three-dimensional silicon-diacetylene porous organic radical polymer was synthesized via a classic Eglinton homocoupling reaction of tetraethynylsilane.The presence of carbon radicals in this material was confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance,and its paramagnetic behavior was analyzed by a superconducting quantum interference device.This unique material has a low-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO)energy level(−5.47 eV)and a small energy gap(ca.1.46 eV),which shows long-term cycling stability and excellent rate capability as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries,demonstrating potential application in energy fields.

Microelectrodes are a type of electrode with microscopic dimension, and due to their rapid diffusing rates, high electrical current densities and signal-to-noise ratios, they can help improve the detection sensitivity for various analytes [1]. Investigations on the fabrication and the application of microelectrodes are highly relevant. Fiber-type microelectrodes with one-dimensional (ID) microstructures that possess ID diffusion, particularly carbon fiber microelectrodes, have been widely fabricated and used in many different types of sensors due to their low cost, small volume, portability, and good biocompatibility [1,2]. However, poor electrocatalytic activity and low response currents preclude the applications of carbon fiber microelectrodes in sensors.
