The prefrontal cortex and hippocampus may support sequential working memory beyond episodic memory and spatial *** stereoelectroencephalography(SEEG)study investigated how the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(DLPFC)interacts with the hippocampus in the online processing of sequential *** patients with epilepsy(eight women,age 27.6±8.2 years)completed a line ordering task with SEEG recordings over the DLPFC and the *** showed longer thinking times and more recall errors when asked to arrange random lines clockwise(random trials)than to maintain ordered lines(ordered trials)before recalling the orientation of a particular ***,the ordering-related increase in thinking time and recall error was associated with a transient theta power increase in the hippocampus and a sustained theta power increase in the DLPFC(3–10 Hz).In particular,the hippocampal theta power increase correlated with the memory precision of line ***,theta phase coherences between the DLPFC and hippocampus were enhanced for ordering,especially for more precisely memorized ***,the theta band DLPFC→hippocampus influence was selectively enhanced for ordering,especially for more precisely memorized *** study suggests that theta oscillations may support DLPFC-hippocampal interactions in the online processing of sequential information.

＜正＞Objective theta is the dominant oscillation of local field potentials（LFPs） recorded in rodenl hippocampus during voluntary behaviors as well as rapid-eye-movement（REM） *** theta oscillations, diverse types of hippocampal neurons including pyramidal cells and distinct GABAergic intemeurons cooperated in time for theta rhythm generation and information *** we reported a new type of neuron recorded in mouse hippocampal CA1,firing one spike per theta circle during theta and silencing during non-theta period,thus called theta pulsing *** in this study we also explore the phase precession of theta pulsing cells during active exploration（AE） and *** Spike and LFPs signal were recorded in hippocampal CA1 of C57BL/6J mice in vivo by 96-channel Plexon ***（1） theta pulsing cells fired at theta frequency and silent during nontheta period,which was of distinct activity from both pyramidal cells and interneurons reported previously.（2） During AE the firing rhythm of theta pulsing cells is faster than LFP theta,representing a phase precession of 273.03 degree, which is comparable with that of hippocampal place *** REM,theta pulsing cells fired slower than LFP theta rhythm with phase precession 475.30 degree,which was longer than a theta circle.（3） theta pulsing cells represented spike-field activity-delay with LFP *** The newly reported theta pulsing cells in hippocampal CA1 was less likely to contribute to theta generation but might provide a clock-like reference for phase precession.

The theta oscillation（4-12 Hz） in the hippocampus is a characteristic field potential oscillation closely related to learning and memory, dominant during active exploration and REM sleep. Studies have shown that complete lesions of the medial septum（MS） leads to the disappearance of the theta rhythm in the hippocampus. Further studies have indicated very low quantity of cholinergic neurons in the hippocampus. Hippocampal acetylcholine content mainly depended on the projections from MS cholinergic neurons. Furthermore, the content of hippocampal acetylcholine during active exploration is much higher than that during slow-wave sleep. The effect of MS cholinergic system on hippocampal theta oscillation is still under debate. Combined multi-channel in-vivo recording technique with Ch AT-IVM-e GFP transgenic mice, which could specifically silence MS cholinergic neurons after IVM injection, we investigated the role of MS cholinergic system in regulating hippocampal theta oscillation. Microinjection of IVM into MS significantly reduced the amplitude of hippocampal theta oscillation on a dose dependent manner with no significant effect on theta frequency. The best inhibitory effected is achieved after 7 hours with 3 n M injection. The magnitude of theta oscillation is reduced from 0.45±0.0035 to 0.14±0.0035（Power Spectral Densities, * P ＜ 0.05 T-TEST）. theta oscillation can be completely restored after 24 hours of injection. These results indicate that MS cholinergic neurons are mainly involved in the regulation of amplitude, but not frequency of hippocampal theta oscillations.
