Existing theories of thermal comfort are largely blind to the way heat is delivered to *** studies,however,show that people create and enjoy thermal conditions that lie outside conventional definitions of comfort-the thermal experience itself is valued-some of which are tied to particular ways of delivering *** concept“exergy”can be used to describe the quality of heat energy and its ability to provide warmth.A shift from fossil fuels towards renewable sources heralds a new era of space heating consisting mainly of low exergy sources,such as heat *** marks a major turning point in the history of domestic *** paper begins by discussing variations in domestic thermal environments before considering new forms of low carbon *** sections analyse the way in which these systems deliver heat within people’s homes and consider the implications for thermal experience,comfort and energy consumption.

Physiological and subjective thermal responses to heat exposure in northern and southern Chinese people

When studying the thermal adaptation of building occupants,understanding the effects of different thermal experiences on adaptation is necessary,particularly for moderate and severe heat ***,this area has seen limited ***,skin temperature,a common parameter for quantifying thermal sensation,may insufficiently reflect the automatic thermoregulation of the human *** study investigates the effects of long-term heat exposure on the human body using multiple physiological and subjective *** heat exposure experiments were conducted on healthy male participants from northern and southern *** responses,including skin temperature,heart rate,heart rate variability,blood volume pulse(BVP),subjective thermal comfort thermal sensation,thermal acceptability,and normalized high and low frequency values were collected and compared The results indicated that the subjective responses of northern and southern participants were not significantly different;however,the subjective physiological symptoms and self-reported discomfort of the latter were less than those of the former,indicating that the southern participants had superior heat ***,the physiological responses of all the participants were largely ***,southern participants showed slightly higher normalized high frequency and BVP values,indicating that they have more active vagus nerves and better *** also showed a wider acceptable temperature range and better acclimation to heat ***,the mean skin temperature could not effectively predict thermal sensation during heat exposure;this was more accurately achieved using the rate of change of skin *** findings suggest that long-term thermal experiences can affect building occupants’thermal adaptability.

The influence of different functional areas on customers’thermal comfort-A Field study in shopping complexes of North China

Shopping complexes are widely built for their convenience and multiple ***,their complex func-tional areas,result in significantly different thermal environments and various customers’thermal *** explain the influence of functional related parameters on the thermal perception of customers in shopping com-plexes,we selected two typical functional related parameters,including customers’thermal expectation level of indoor environment in their current area and the area where the customer was ten minutes before taking the sur-vey.851 valid questionnaires were obtained in two typical shopping complexes during ***’thermal neutral temperature,thermal preference temperature and thermal comfort temperature range were calculated in different functional ***’thermal expectation level was quantified by using expectancy *** results showed that customers’thermal expectation level in entertainment areas was the highest,followed by food courts,retail areas,and transition ***’thermal expectation level would influence their thermal neutral temperature and thermal *** with different thermal experience differed sig-nificantly in their thermal sensation voting(pthermal sensitivity,about 0.41/°C,was found in customers moving from high-temperature areas to low-temperature *** findings help to clarify how functional related parameters affect the thermal comfort of customers and provide the guidance for designing the indoor temperature in shopping complexes.

The indoor thermal history of residents in the hot summer and cold winter climate zone in China have undergone a significant change in recent years,which also changes their seasonal thermal adaptations and this has formed feed-back effects to the increasing usage of air conditioning units in this *** study the seasonal variations of thermal adaptation,the thermal comfort experiments were conducted on two groups of *** groups included 20 participants who had indoor history mainly with natural ventilation(NV group)and air-conditioning(AC group),*** results demonstrated that the thermal sensation vote(TSV)in warm environments did not differ between AC and NV subjects in ***,the TSV of AC subjects were much lower than that of NV subjects in the same standard effective temperature and skin temperature in a cold environment in ***,the participants who spent most of their time in AC space in winter showed a low level of thermal adaptation with a narrower acceptable skin temperature range of 32.6-33.5℃.Thus,this study presents the basic information regarding the seasonal effects on human thermal adaptation due to different long-term indoor thermal histories.
