FlowGANAnomaly: Flow-Based Anomaly Network Intrusion Detection with Adversarial Learning

In recent years, low recall rates and high dependencies on data labelling have become the biggest obstacle to developing deep anomaly detection(DAD) techniques. Inspired by the success of generative adversarial networks(GANs) in detecting anomalies in computer vision and imaging, we propose an anomaly detection model called Flow GANAnomaly for detecting anomalous traffic in network intrusion detection systems(NIDS). Unlike traditional GAN-based approaches, which are composed of a flow encoder, a convolutional encoder-decoder-encoder, a flow decoder and a convolutional encoder, the architecture of this model consists of a generator(G) and a discriminator(D).Flow GANAnomaly maps the different types of traffic feature data from separate datasets to a uniform feature space,thus can capture the normality of network traffic data more accurately in an adversarial manner to mitigate the problem of the high dependence on data labeling. Moreover, instead of simply detecting the anomalies by the output of D, we proposed a new anomaly scoring method that integrates the deviation between the output of two Gs’ convolutional encoders with the output of D as weighted scores to improve the low recall rate of anomaly detection. We conducted several experiments comparing existing machine learning algorithms and existing deep learning methods(Auto Encoder and VAE) on four public datasets(NSL-KDD, CIC-IDS2017, CIC-DDo S2019, and UNSW-NB15). The evaluation results show that Flow GANAnomaly can significantly improve the performance of anomaly-based NIDS.

IP-Pealing: A Robust Network Flow Watermarking Method Based on IP Packet Sequence

Network flow watermarking(NFW) is usually used for flow *** actively modulating some features of the carrier traffic,NFW can establish the correspondence between different network *** the face of strict demands of network traffic tracing,current watermarking methods cannot work efficiently due to the dependence on specific protocols,demand for large quantities of packets,weakness on resisting network channel interferences and so *** this end,we propose a robust network flow watermarking method based on IP packet sequence,called as *** is designed to utilize the packet sequence as watermark carrier with IP identification field which is insensitive to time jitter and suitable for all IP based *** enhance the robustness against packet loss and packet reordering,the detection sequence set is constructed in terms of the variation range of packet sequence,correcting the possible errors caused by the network *** improve the detection accuracy,the long watermark information is divided into several short sequences to embed in turn and assembled during *** a large number of experiments on the Internet,the overall detection rate and accuracy of IP-Pealing reach 99.91% and 99.42%*** comparison with the classical network flow watermarking methods,such as PROFW,IBW,ICBW,WBIPD and SBTT,the accuracy of IP-Pealing is increased by 13.70% to 54.00%.

Network traffic Anomaly Detection Method Based on a Feature of Catastrophe Theory

For the existing problems of current network traffic anomaly detection, the behavior of the network traffic anomaly will show nonlinearity, non-stationarity and complexity according to the network traffic often driven by the control of multiple factors. Owing to the characteristic that the internal evolution equation will lead to dynamical structure catastrophe, the phase space reconstruction method and the statistical physics method can be used to compute the macro feature values of the network traffic. By choosing some of the feature values which can obviously retlect the unusual change in the network traffic volume as control variables, a network traffic anomaly detection method based on the catastrophe series theory model is developed. Many experimental results show that the proposed network traffic anomaly detection method has a low false alarm rate under the same condition of detection rate.

OSNR-aware lightpath provisioning in distributed optical network

An optical signal-to-noise ratio （OSNR） aware lightpath provisioning mechanism （OSNR-LPM） is proposed for distributed optical networks. This OSNR-LPM takes the OSNR value of the lightwave along the lightpath into consideration when establishing the lightpath for the connection request using resource reservation protocol-traffic engineering （RSVP-TE）. Moreover, the OSNR-LPM makes full advantages of the OSNR monitoring function in each node and assigns the lightwave by judging the OSNR value carried by the signaling message in order to guarantee the reliable establishment of the lightpath in the data plane. The simulation results show that the OSNR-LPM outperforms other lightpath assignment mechanisms in terms of real blocking probability in the data plane.

The encoding and decoding processes of traffic channel in digital trunking system are studied. On the basis of computer simulation, the BER (bit error ratio) with different RCPC decoding step is analyzed. As a result, the optimal RCPC decoding step is provided, which gives essential theoretical evidences for the implementation of digital trunking system.

Parallel Algorithm Case Study Using Virtual Machine

This paper takes the Sobel operator as example to study parallel sequential algorithm onto a memory-sharing multiprocessor by using a virtual machine. Several different parallel algorithms using function decomposition and/or data decomposition methods are compared and their performances are analyzed in terms of processor utilization, data traffic, shared memory access, and synchronization overhead. The analysis is validated through a simulation experiment on the virtual machine of 64 parallel processors. Conclusions are presented at the end of this paper.

Bandwidth constrained QoS routing scheme for MPLS traffic engineering

traffic engineering has been essential to optimize the utilization of network resource and to provide for QoS, QoS routing is a basic component of traffic engineering in MPLS networks, Aiming at some shortages of certain existing routing algorithms, we propose an efficient bandwidth constrained QoS routing scheme with additional traffic engineering objectives. The objectives of traffic engineering considered in our algorithm are to reduce the blocking probability of requests and to evenly distribute the traffic load. Accordingly, the algorithm avoids using critical links as far as possible by assigning large weights to them as a function of their criticality. The critical links can be specified according to max-flow reduction weight, a new link weight introduced by the algorithm. Then, a new defined additive metric, path saturation, is used to select optimal path. Extensive simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of call blocking probability and link resource utilization. Compared to other several routing algorithms, the simulation results show the new algorithm performs well.

Efficient medium access control protocol for geostationary satellite systems

This paper proposes an efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol based on multifrequency-time division multiple access (MF-TDMA) for geostationary satellite systems deploying multiple spot-beams and onboard processing, which uses a method of random reservation access with movable boundaries to dynamically request the transrnission slots and can transmit different types of traffic. The simulation results have shown that our designed MAC protocol can achieve a high bandwidth utilization, while providing the required quality of service (QoS) for each class of service.

Performance Analysis of TCP-Reno and TCP-Sack in the Case of a Single Source

This work explores the behavior of both TCP-Reno and TCP-Sack under a simple scenario, where a single TCP source transmits the packets continuously over a single bottleneck node characterized by its queue size, bandwidth and propagation delay. The analysis allows to derive the performance of TCP, the utilization tends to 75% of the bottleneck throughput when the bandwidth×propagation delay pipe becomes very large, while it tends to 100% when the queuing delays are predominant because the queue is never empty. In the transient analysis we show how the initial phase of the session can degrade the performances. These results are proved through simulation.
