Partitioning Anatolian Kinematics into tectonic escape and Slab Rollback Dominated Domains

Anatolia is the global archetype of tectonic escape,as witnessed by the devastating 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquake sequence,and the 2020 Samos Earthquake,which show different kinematics related to the framework of the escape *** Positioning System(GPS)motions of the wedge-shaped plate differ regionally from northwestwards to southwestwards(from east to west).Anatolia was extruded westward from the Arabian-Eurasian collision along the North and East Anatolian fault systems,rotating counterclockwise into the oceanic free-faces of the Mediterranean and Aegean,with dramatic extension of western Anatolia in traditional ***,which is the dominant mechanism for this change in kinematics,extrusion related to the Arabia/Eurasia collision or rollback of the African slab beneath western Anatolia is still *** assess the dominant driving mechanisms across Anatolia,we analyze recent GPS velocity datasets,and decomposed them into N-S and E-W components,revealing that westward motion is essentially constant across the whole plate and consistent with the slip rates of the North and East Anatolia fault zones,while southward components increase dramatically in the transition area between central and western Anatolia,where a slab tear is *** phenomenon is related to different tectonic driving *** ArabiaEurasia collision drives the Anatolian Plate uniformly westwards while western Anatolia is progressively more affected by the southward retreating African subducting slab west of the Aegean/Cypriot slab tear,which significantly increases the southward component of the velocity field and causes the apparent curve of the whole modern velocity *** 2020 and 2023 earthquake focal mechanisms also confirm that the northward colliding Arabian Plate forced Anatolia to the west,and the retreating African slab is pulling the upper plate of western Anatolian apart in *** propose that the Anatolian Plate is moving westwards as

This paper presents a tectonic escape model for the formation of sedimentary basins in the Yangzhou Block of the Lower Yangtze Region,Eastern *** sedimentary basins are identified in which the Pukou Formation of the Upper Cretaceous has been *** south to north,the nine sedimentary basins are named:Wangjing,Qiangshan,Wuwei,Nanxuan, Changzhou,Jurong,Nanjing,Quanjiao and Subei *** form a wedge-shape fragment(the Yangzhou Block) occupying an area of 100,000 km in the Lower Yangtze *** two side boundaries of the Yangzhou Block are the strike-slip Tanlu Fault and the strike-slip Quangjiao-Xiangshui Fault on the northwest and the strike-slip Qingyang-Nantong Fault on the *** wide end of the wedge faces the Southern Yellow Sea in the northeast and the narrow end contacts the Dabie Block in the southwest. During the Early Mesozoic,collision between the Yangtze Block and the North China Block resulted in the formation of the Qinling-Dabie Orogenic Belt and caused the Lower Yangtze Region to become a foreland basin with many strike-slip *** the Late Mesozoic,wide spread extension in Eastern China and shortening in Qin-ling/Dabie Shan and in the Huaying Shan region resulted following establishment of an Andean-type arc margin to the east of the Southern Yellow Sea area,when"Greater Japan"collided with ***,the wedge-shaped Yangzhou Block escaped tectonically toward the northeast and formed distinctive geological features in nine sedimentary basins during Pukou time in the Late *** geological features are reflected in basin spatial distributions,basin geometries,sedimentary facies,sediment thicknesses, sedimentary environments,and the petrology of fanglomerates and *** basins are part of a large population of arc-crestal rifts formed on top of that Andean arc. The proposed tectonic escape model could be useful in petroleum exploration and mining in the region.

Meso-Cenozoic extensional structures are important for understanding the tectonics of the Chinese Central *** paper presents a systematic investigation on the Meso-Cenozoic extensional structures in the Northern Tarim *** interpretations of seismic data reveal that the Meso-Cenozoic extensional structures were widely developed in the Northern Tarim *** extensional structures are regionally composed of many small normal faults,which usually group into left-or right-step en echelon and form several transtensional fault *** of normal faults in profile become small graben-horst or staircase-like *** on the areal distribution, structural style,combination relationship,formation and evolution time,and formation mechanism of the extensional structures,we found that the Meso-Cenozoic extensional structures in Northern Tarim Basin can be classified into two conjugate normal fault systems,which were formed separately in Jurassic-Early Cretaceous and Late Cretaceous-Neogene. The former is likely associated with the stress relaxation after a collisional orogeny accompanied with a certain degree of anticlockwise rotation of the Tarim block relative to the South Tianshan;the latter is possibly induced by the east by south tectonic escape of the Tarim block with a certain degree of clockwise rotation relative to the South Tianshan triggered by the far-field effect of the Himalayan orogeny.
