In many songbird species,birdsong features phonological syntax,meaning that the units within their vocal se-quences are ordered in a non-random way that adheres to a *** such syntactical patterns have been richly described in many species,comparatively little is known about how those patterns contribute to song achieving its important *** each of song’s main functions,territorial defense and mate attraction,evidence of a role for syntax is *** species for which syntax has been thoroughly described is the Hermit Thrush(Catharus guttatus),which presents song types from their repertoires in a semi-predictable order and,in doing so,rapidly cycle up and down the frequency *** objective of the present study was to explore the importance of song syntax in the Hermit Thrush through a within-subject examination of how measures of syntax,such as the predictability of song type order within song sequences,shift over the breeding *** hypothesized that,if such syntactical characteristics are important to breeding behaviour,they would be most prominent at the start of the breeding season when activity associated with territory establishment and mate attraction is most *** revealed that,as predicted,the rigidness of song type ordering within se-quences was highest at the start of the season and declined *** song type sequences were most predictable at the vitally important early part of the breeding season fit our hypothesis that this aspect of song syntax is important to song’s functions related to territory establishment and/or mate *** work will clarify whether that role relates to one of song’s two main functions or serves song transmission in some broader way.

OBJECTIVES To verify whether incomplete revascularisation(IR),quantified using the rsyntax(Synergy between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery)score andΔsyntax%score,could predict short-(in-hospital mortality)and long-term outcomes(12-month mortality)in octogenarians undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).METHODS&RESULTS A retrospective analysis of 665 consecutive octogenarian patients presenting for PCI to a UK centre was *** baseline syntax and rsyntax scores were assessed from angiographic images.Δsyntax%score was calculated(Δsyntax%=((syntax-rsyntax)/syntax)×100%))to measure the relative completeness of ***-Meier analysis assessed survival at 12 months by tertiles of rsyntax andΔsyntax%***Δsyntax%score was associated with reduced in-hospital mortality(P=0.017),and improved survival benefit(log rank 14.8,P=0.001)at 12 *** Enhancing the completeness of revascularisation in octogenarians selected to undergo PCI is associated with a lower in-hospital mortality and a survival benefit at 12 months.

Urban greenways： Operationalizing design syntax and integrating mathematics and science in design

The ubiquitous sameness of urban greenways prompts questions on generative design grammar and syntax, whether creative, critical rethinking at that level might be lacking. However the design syntax of urban greenways is not explicitly discussed thus leaving a critical gap in knowledge. This paper begins tackling the larger question by acting on the fundamental subset of it, by operationatizing the design syntax of urban greenways. This is done through mathematics-based graph studies to analyze patterns and shapes, photography based thermal, material and morphology studies, and section analyses to make imagery-derived deductions on the design syntax. Recommendation on approaches to diversify and enrich the design syntax includes a more direct reference from ecosystem science theories such for siting and planning the urban greenways at macro- to meso-scale, a mixed-method approach, combining mathe- matics, photography and drawings based frames for analyses at meso- to micro-scale, and a turtle view scale for designing at meso- to micro-scale, with an emphasis on latter.

Relevance of syntax score for assessment of saphenous vein graft failure after coronary artery bypass grafting

Objective::To identify risk factors of saphenous vein graft (SVG) failure and to investigate the utility of anatomical syntax score (SS) and syntax score II (SS-II) in predicting SVG ***::A total of 598 patients who underwent angiography for clinical reasons after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were included. Baseline data and factors related to SVG failure were analyzed at the patient and graft levels. Patients were divided in tertiles by anatomical SS and in three groups by SS-II revascularization recommendation, and SVG patency was analyzed across these ***::Patency rates were similar in all SS-stratified and SS-II recommendation groups within 1, 5, and 10 years after CABG. At the patient level, fasting blood glucose (FBG) level <7.0 mmol/L was less common in SVG failure (68.0% vs. 76.2%). At the graft level, patients with SVG failure tended to have angiography later (4.0 years vs. 3.0 years), poorer FBG control (FBG <7.0 mmol/L: 68.2% vs. 74.7%), and more grafts anastomosed to the right coronary system (59.2% vs. 47.4%). Longer time interval after CABG was related to SVG failure both at the patient and graft levels, and odds ratio ( OR)/ P values ( OR/ P) were 1.282/0.029 and 1.384/0.016, respectively. Using independent graft and grafting to the right artery system as risk factors at the graft level, OR/ Ps were 3.094/0.000 and 2.524/0.000, respectively. Conclusions::Longer time interval after CABG, independent grafts, and grafting to the right artery system are associated with SVG failure. Anatomical SS or SS-II may not be reasonable tools for predicting SVG failure.

The syntax score devised as a tool to grade complexity of coronary artery disease with a view to its suitability for PCI or otherwise on deeper introspection is fraught with some inherent limitations and fallacies largely as a result of the variability in coronary anatomy and the fixed nomenclature of the devised scoring system. We, in this special report, bring out the limitations and fallacies in the same and possible remedies presented as a viewpoint which may be useful to the interventional community at large.

syntax Development in Language Education of Children Who Are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing by Usage of Modem Technology

The aim of the study was to determine the development of syntax in language development of children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, who are taught to new dynamic linguistic features with the help of computers. The sample consisted of 70 children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, aged 7-17 years. To assess language development were applied following variables： total number of words used, the total number of different words used, the correct and incorrect statements （sentences） of the respondents. We calculated the basic statistical parameters on which it was found that the experimental program computer teaching children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing gave better results in the development of syntax. Also, canonical discriminate analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in the applied variables between the control and experimental groups the level of statistical significance ofp = 0.000. The results showed a significant improvement of the experimental group and that dynamic computer programming activities, which were challenged participants of the experimental group, contribute to a better linguistic competence of children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

Correlation between syntax Score and Pattern of Risk Factors in Patients Referred for Coronary Angiography in Cardiology Department, Menoufia University

Objectives: The role of syntax (SX) score in assessing the complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD) is well established. In this study we investigate the relationship between conventional risk factors of CAD with its complexity using SX score. Methods: The study consisted of 52 patients with CAD who were admitted to Cardiology Department—Menoufia University Hospitals for elective coronary angiography. The overall SX score was calculated prospectively using the SX score algorithm. Then comparison was done between populations with and without each risk factor. Results: There was a statistically significant correlation between age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and smoking with SX score results (p 0.05). In a multivariate regression analysis, including conventional risk factors of CAD as independent covariates, it revealed that aging, having diabetes mellitus and smoking were identified as significant independent risk factors for CAD complexity. Conclusion: Advanced age, having diabetes mellitus and cigarette smoking are considered to be independent risk factors for the complexity of CAD. Therefore, when these factors present, we expect that the SX score of the patient to be high indicating a complex CAD.
