1.Introduction At the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 22 September 2020,President Xi Jinping pledged that China would peak its carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060(hereinafter referred to as“peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality”).This statement indicated that China would contribute to the global community in order to aim toward a shared future for humankind and would establish a schedule for the promotion of green,low-carbon,and highquality development,which will benefit China’s overall and long-term development.China’s total carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions surpassed those of the United States in 2005,making China the world’s largest carbon emitter.Due to the nation’s rapid and sustained economic growth,China’s emissions reached 9.83 billion tonnes in 2019,accounting for 28.8%of the global total[1].

The behavior of room temperature self-sustained current oscillations resulting from sequential resonance tunneling in a doped weakly-coupled GaAs/AlAs superlattice(SL)is investigated under hydrostatic pressure.From atmosphere pressure to 6.5 kbar,oscillations exist in the whole plateau of the I-V curve and oscillating characteristics are affected by the pressure.When hydrostatic pressure is higher than 6.5 kbar,the current oscillations are completely suppressed although a current plateau still can be seen in the 1-V curve.The plateau disappears when the pressure is close to 13.5kbar.As the main effect of hydrostatic pressure is to lower the X point valley with respect to Г point valley,the disappearance of oscillation and the plateau shrinkage before Г-X resonance takes place are attributed to the increases of thermoionic emission and nonresonant tunneling components determined by the lowest Г-X barrier height in GaAs/AlAs SL structure.

AIM:To examine the epidemiological data,hematological safety and treatment responses of peginterferonalpha 2a plus ribavirin therapy for hepatitis C.METHODS:Between March 2008 and February 2011,196 hepatitis C virus(HCV)genotype 1 infected Japanese(127 treatment-naive and 69 treatment-experienced patients)patients treated with peginterferonalpha 2a plus ribavirin were enrolled.We examined the epidemiological data and treatment responses were retrospectively analyzed in terms of hematological safety.HCV RNA was measured by the COBAS TaqMan HCV test.RESULTS:Overall sustained virological response(SVR)rates of treatment-naive and treatment-experienced patients were 56% and 39%,respectively.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that SVR was attained independently of early virological response in both treatment-naive and treatment-experienced patients.SVR rates did not differ between the pretreatment hemoglobin < 13 g/dL and ≥ 13 g/dL groups.However,in treatment-naive patients,the SVR rate of the pretreatment platelet count < 130000/μL group was significantly lower than that of the pretreatment platelet count ≥ 130000/μL group.CONCLUSION:Attention should be paid to potential thrombocytopenia in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C patients.

This paper deals about a quantitative and qualitative study of the sustained vibration pat-terns of vocal cords with a mulfifunctional glottograph developed by the authors.The glottogramsand their parameters for the modal,falsetto,breathy and pressed voices are presented.This paper al-so sets out to explore the influence of the changes in the properties of the vocal tract andfundamental frequency,on vocal cord vibration.Typical clinical results show that the glottographicmethod may be used in the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal diseases,phonation physiology andevaluation of artistic voice.

Cancer immunotherapy has made breakthroughs in clinical application and has become the fourth most prevalent tumor treatment method after surgical resection,chemotherapy,and radiotherapy.It mainly enhances the anti-tumor immunity of the tumor microenvironment by stimulating or mobilizing the immune system to control and kill tumor cells[1].T lymphocytes are an important component of the body’s immune system,which indirectly or directly affects the occurrence and development of tumors,and emerging advances in T lymphocyte-based tumor immunotherapy also attract much more attention.It is a common knowledge that the activation,proliferation,and differentiation of antigen-specific lymphocytes are the key to the successful establishment of anti-tumor immunity,and this process largely depends on the interaction between T cells and antigen-presenting cells(APCs)[1].Activation of CD8+cytotoxic T lymphocytes(CTLs)has proved to be an important role in cancer immunotherapy.Tumor antigens are presented to T cells through major histocompatibility complex class I(MHC-I)molecules on the surface of APCs,thereby stimulating the activation and proliferation of CD8+T cells,and finally producing a strong,sustained,and effective CTL response[2].Therefore,fully mobilizing the function of T lymphocytes is essential for tumor immunotherapy.

Intracellular recordings were made from amacrine cells in the isolated, superfused carp retina, and the effects of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on sustained and transient ON signals of these cells were studied. Exogenous GABA application partially suppressed the sustained response of ON amacrine cells, which could be completely reversed by picrotoxin (PTX), a chloride channel blocker, and by bicuculline (BCC), a specific GABA_A receptor antagonist. On the other hand, suppression by GABA of the ON response which was predominantly driven by rod signals in a certain portion of transient ON-OFF amacrine cells was completely blocked by PTX, but not by BCC, indicating that GABA_C receptors may be involved in the effect. These results suggest that GABA_A and GABA_C receptors may be respectively involved in mediating the transmission of sustained and transient signals in the carp inner retina.

Design and Performance Evaluation of a sustained Load Dual Grip Creep Testing Machine

The design and performance evaluation of a sustained load creep testing machine was undertaken in this research. The design was motivated by the need to make locally available, a cost effective, technically efficient, and easily operated creep testing facility;for creep behaviour studies of materials. Design drawings and purchase of materials and components for the design were undertaken after thorough evaluation of the following design and materials selection criteria: design principle and theory, local availability of raw materials and components required for the design, material properties, cost of materials and design, ease of utilization and maintenance, and basis of testing and data capture. The machine casing and frame, heating chamber (consisting of the furnace and a dual specimen mounting stage), load lever and hanger system, and the electro-technical components;were fabricated and coupled following the produced design specifications. The machine was tested and its performance was assessed using its heating efficiency, repeatability and reproducibity of experimental test results, maintainability and cost-effectiveness as criteria. It was observed from repeat tests that the machine has the capacity of generating reliable data for computing creep strain-time results. The efficiency and temperature regulating capacity of the heating unit of the machine were also observed to be very satisfactory. The cost of the design was about 112,000 Naira ($700.00) which is cheaper in comparison to similar commercial creep testing machines from abroad. The machine was also found not to pose maintenance or repairs challenges.

Application of D-Optimal Study Design with Contour Surface Response for Designing sustained Release Gliclazide Matrix Tablets

An optimized formulation of a sustained release tablet of Gliclazide was developed. The use of Doptimal design with a polynomial statistical model to analyze dissolution data reduced the number of laboratory tests required to obtain an optimal dosage form. The final formulation contained 22 mg of Methocel®E15LV, 16.5 mg Methocel®E15 and 10.0 mg of Dibasic Calcium Phosphate per 30 mg Gliclazide sustained release tablet. Dissolution studies performed on tablets from 5000 tablet test batches released greater than 90 percent of loaded drug in eight hours. Drug release from the optimized tablets followed a pattern more closely similar to zero-order than other mechanisms of drug release tested. Storage of tablets in accelerated and ambient conditions for 6 and 12 months respectively did not alter any of the physico-chemical properties, drug release or the drug release rate compared to initial observations and dissolution data of the prepared tablets. The addition of potassium phosphate and monosodium phosphate to the tablet reduced the effect pH has on Gliclazide dissolution compared to the commercially available product.
