Transport signatures of the topological surface state induced by the size effect in superconductor β-PdBi_(2)

The superconductivity and nontrivial topological electronic state are key hallmarks of topological ***,we focus on the transport signals of possible topological surface state in the topological superconductor candidate β-PdBi_(2) nanoflake with a thickness of 21 *** resistance demonstrates a semiconductor-metal transition followed by an upturned behavior as the temperature decreases.A large and unsaturated longitudinal magnetoresistance(MR),accompanied by distinct Shubnikov-de Hass oscillation in Hall resistance,is *** analysis of Hall resistance reveals that the carriers present the characteristics of relativistic particles with small effective mass and extremely high *** angle-dependent quantum oscillations demonstrate a two-dimensional Fermi surface topology.A giant anisotropic MR as large as 98%is detected when rotating the magnetic *** results provide the possible transport signals of a nontrivial topological electronic state,establishing a further understanding of the topological properties of the low-dimensional topological superconductor candidate β-PdBi_(2).

Regulating surface state of WO3 nanosheets by gamma irradiation for suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction in electrochemical N2 fixation

Realizing the reduction of N2 to NH3 at low temperature and pressure is always the unremitting pursuit of scientists and then electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction offers an intriguing ***,we develop a feasible way,gamma irradiation,for constructing defective structure on the surface of WO3 nanosheets,which is clearly observed at the atomic scale by high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy(HAADF-STEM).The abundant oxygen vacancies ensure WO3 nanosheets with a Faradaic efficiency of 23%at−0.3 V ***,we start from the regulation of the surface state to suppress proton availability towards hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)on the active site and thus boost the selectivity of nitrogen reduction.

Effects of surface state and Applied Stress on Stress Corrosion Cracking of Alloy 690TT in Lead-containing Caustic Solution

The effects of surface state and applied stress on the stress corrosion cracking （SCC） behaviors of thermally treated （TT） Alloy 690 in 10 wt% NaOH solution with 100 mg/L litharge at 330 ℃ were investigated using C-ring samples with four kinds of surface states and two different stress levels. Sample outer surfaces of the first three kinds were ground to 400 grit （ground）, shot-peened （SP） and electro-polished （EP） and the last one was used as the as-received state. Two samples of every kind were stressed to 100% and 200% yield stress of Alloy 690TT, respectively. The results showed that the oxide film consisted of three layers whereas continuous layer rich in Cr was not found. The poor adhesive ability indicated that the oxide film could not protect the matrix from further corrosion. Lead was found in the oxide film and the oxides at the crack paths and accelerated the dissolution of thermodynamically unstable Cr in these locations and also in the matrix. The crack initiation and propagation on Alloy 690TT were effectively retarded by SP and EP treatments but were enhanced by grinding treatment, compared with the cracks on the as-received surface. The cracking severity was also enhanced by increasing the externally applied stress. The accelerated dissolution of Cr and the local tensile stress concentration in the near-surface layer caused by cold-working and higher applied stress reduced the SCC-resistance of Alloy 690TT in the studied solution.

The depth profile of composition,chemical state of elements and morphology of as- received and activated amorphous Fe_(80)Zr_(12)B_8 alloy ribbons have been studied by means of Auger electron spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning Auger microprobe combined with Ar ion *** dull and free sides of the as- received ribbons were covered with an iron oxide *** a pronounced surface segregation and oxidation of B and precipitation of microcrystalline α-Fe particles were observed on both sides of activated ribbons,B and Zr were oxidized selectively in subsurface *** both sides of ribbons,a porous surface structure formed. The BET surface area was measured to be increasing from 0.11 to 2.68 m^2/*** principal mechanism of in situ activation has been discussed.

Characterization of surface state of Inert Particles: Case of Si and SiC

Silicon and Silicon carbide particles have been investigated by the mean of infrared (IR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to establish their surface states. The results of this research are based on the estimation of the area under the high resolution peaks by isosceles triangles. This approach leads to the repartition of the particles surfaces in term of atomic percentage and of type of bonds. The surface of silicon particles is divided up into 54.85% of Si-O bonds and 36.85% of Si-Si bonds. The remaining surface is constituted of zeolite, the raw material used to produce the silicon particles. The surface of silicon carbide particles consists of 50.44% of Si-C bonds, 24.01% of Si-O bonds and 25.55% of graphite. 10.01% of the graphite is derived from the oxidation of Si-C bonds while 11.48% is due to contamination. The zeta potential evolution versus pH confirms the distribution of chemical groups found.

Elastic scattering of surface states on three-dimensional topological insulators

Topological insulators as a new type of quantum matter materials are characterized by a full insulating gap in the bulk and gapless edge/surface states protected by the time-reversal symmetry. We propose that the interference patterns caused by the elastic scattering of defects or impurities are dominated by the surface states at the extremal points on the constant energy contour. Within such a formalism, we summarize our recent theoretical investigations on the elastic scattering of topological surface states by various imperfections, including non-magnetic impurities, magnetic impurities, step edges, and various other defects, in comparison with the recent related experiments in typical topological materials such as BiSb alloys, Bi2Te3, and Bi2Se3 crystals.

Magnetic topological states of matter provide a fertile playground for emerging topological physics and *** current main focus is on materials whose magnetism stems from 3d magnetic transition elements,e.g.,MnBi_(2)Te_(4),Fe_(3)Sn_(2),and Co_(3)Sn_(2)S_(2).In contrast,topological materials with the magnetism from rare earth elements remain largely *** we report rare earth antiferromagnet GdAuAl_(4)Ge_(2)as a candidate magnetic topological *** resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)and first-principles calculations have revealed multiple bulk bands crossing the Fermi level and pairs of low energy surface *** to the parity and Wannier charge center analyses,these bulk bands possess nontrivial Z2 topology,establishing a strong topological insulator state in the nonmagnetic ***,the surface band pairs exhibit strong termination dependence which provides insight into their *** results suggest GdAuAl_(4)Ge_(2)as a rare earth platform to explore the interplay between band topology,magnetism and f electron correlation,calling for further study targeting on its magnetic structure,magnetic topology state,transport behavior,and microscopic properties.

Study on surface states of Zinc Sulfide Electroluminescence Thin Films

The zinc sulfide electroluminescence(EL) thin film doped with erbium,fabricated by thermal evaporation with two boats,are made and analyzed by the technology of X-ray photoelectron *** information of surface states of the microcrystalline thin films is *** transient EL spectroscopy of the thin film devices is measured and simulated by the formulae of different energy transfer *** results indicate that the formula of Gaussian line shape can fit well for description of transient EL process of zinc sulfide thin film doped with *** shows that the surface states have important effect on the relaxation peaks during the decay process of EL for the thin film devices.

Large scale synthesis of full-color emissive carbon dots from a single carbon source by a solvent-free method

Full-color emissive carbon dots(CDs)hold a great promise for various applications,especially in light emitting diodes(LEDs).However,the existing synthetic routes for CDs are carried out in solutions,which suffer from low yields,high pressures,various byproducts,large amounts of waste solvents,and complicated photoluminescence(PL)***,it is necessary to explore large scale synthesis of CDs with high quantum yield(QY)across the entire visible range from a single carbon source by a solvent-free *** this work,a series of CDs with tunable PL emission from 442 to 621 nm,QY of 23%-56%,and production yield within 34%-72%,are obtained by heating o-phenylenediamine with the catalysis of *** characterizations identify that,the differences between these CDs with respect to the graphitization degree,graphitic nitrogen content,and oxygen-containing functional groups,are responsible for their distinct optical properties,which can be modulated by controlling the deamination and dehydrogenation processes during ***,green,yellow,red emissive films,and LEDs are prepared by dispersing the corresponding CDs into polyvinyl alcohol(PVA).All types of white LEDs(WLEDs)with high colorrendering-index(CRI),including warm WLEDs,standard WLEDs,and cool WLEDs,are also fabricated by mixing the red,green,and blue emissive CDs into PVA matrix by the appropriate ratios.
