Rotating orthogonal polarization imaging provides images of the polarization properties of scattering media which are free from surface *** the technique has been demonstrated using manually rotated Glan–Thompson polarizers to control and analyze the polarization state of the light entering and emerging from the *** paper describes a system that performs these functions using liquid crystal *** system is tested using a polarizing target embedded within a scattering medium and is compared with Monte Carlo *** results compare well with those obtained with manual rotation of *** liquid crystal based approach has advantages over the previous system in terms of ease of use,speed,and repeatability and is therefore an important step towards taking the technique into routine clinical use.

Study of Tyvek reflectivity in water

Tyvek is widely used as the inner lining material of water Cherenkov detectors. Therefore, infor- mation about its optical properties plays an important role in the simulation and reconstruction of particles passing through water Cherenkov detectors. In this paper, a water tank experiment is performed to study the Tyvek reflectivity in water. The so-called UNIFIED model, which is an optical model of surface reflection in Geant4, is adopted to describe the Tyvek reflectivity. Two key optical parameters are obtained from a comparison between the measured data and a Monte Carlo simulation.

Seismic isolation is an effective strategy to mitigate the risk of seismic damage in ***,the impact of surface-reflected seismic waves on the effectiveness of tunnel isolation layers remains under *** this study,we employ the wave function expansion method to provide analytical solutions for the dynamic responses of linings in an elastic half-space and an infinite elastic *** comparing the results of the two models,we investigate the seismic isolation effect of tunnel isolation layers induced by reflected seismic *** findings reveal significant differences in the dynamic responses of the lining in the elastic half-space and the infinitely elastic ***,the dynamic stress concentration factor(DSCF)of the lining in the elastic half-space exhibits periodic fluctuations,influenced by the incident wave frequency and tunnel depth,while the DSCF in the infinitely elastic space remain ***,the seismic isolation application of the tunnel isolation layer is found to be less affected by surface-reflected seismic *** results provide valuable insights for the design and assessment of the seismic isolation effect of tunnel isolation layers.

Simulating the signature produced by a single airgun under real gas conditions

Models that simulate the signature of single airguns form the basis for modeling the signals of airgun arrays. Most of the existing models assume that the air inside the produced bubble is ideal gas, which may lead to errors because of the high operating pressure of the airguns. In this study, we propose a model that precisely simulates the signals of single airguns by applying the Van der Waals equation based on the Ziolkowski algorithm. We also consider a thermodynamically open quasistatic system, the heat transition between water and gas, the throttling effect of the port and the bubble rise, and the effect of the sea surface. Modeling experiments show that(1) the energy of the source increases and the signal-tonoise ratio of the signature wavelet decreases with increasing seawater temperature,(2) the reflection coefficient of the sea surface under the actual state and depth of the source affects the notch caused by the surface reflection,(3) the computed signature with the proposed model is very close to the actual data, and(4) the proposed model accurately simulates the signature of single airguns.
