In recent years,foreign films have been introduced into China,which have a tremendous impact on people’s social *** a major tool for obtaining information and enjoying entertainment,film subtitle translation is becoming increasingly ***,the English level and appreciation ability of domestic audience is continuously improving with the change of the times,and their demand and requirement for subtitle translation are also ***,there are still many immature parts in sub⁃title translation,and the theory in China is relatively ***,the subtitle translation level of film needs to be *** translator constantly improves the translation ability by using translation theories and *** on the theory of functional equiv⁃alence,this thesis translates the subtitle of the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing,***,this paper briefly introduces the development of the film subtitle translation and the ***,it introduces the translation theories and skills applied in translation practice,making a particular analysis in combination with specific practical ***,the translator makes a sum⁃mary for the translation *** translator hopes that through the translation practice,some attempts can be made for future re⁃search in subtitle translation.

Documentary is an important form of audiovisual works with the characteristics of both authenticity and artistry, which plays a significant role in the spread of culture and knowledge. Reception aesthetics is a theory of literary criticism raised by the German literature theoretician and aesthetician Hans Robert Jauss in the 1960 s, in which the focus of literary studies is shifted from the author and text to the reader. It emphasizes reader's participation and acceptance during the text understanding, by shifting the central position of studies from the author and work to the reader. It claims that only the works that have been comprehended and delivered by readers possess artistic value and meaning. With the characteristic of audience-centered, documentary happens to coincide with reception aesthetics theory which takes readers' horizon of expectation into consideration. Applying the theory of reception aesthetics as its interpretive framework, this paper makes an effort to study subtitle translation of documentary films.

As a particular translation pattern, movie subtitle translation has played a vital role in the field of ***, in terms of cross-cultural communication, it is necessary to deepen the comprehension of the translated subtitles by translating *** paper consists of four parts. The fi rst part mainly discusses the current situation of movie subtitle translation and gives the introduction of the paper. The second part mainly introduces something about the Relevance Theory. The third part makes a detailed study of the subtitle translation of Titanic from the perspective of Relevance Theory. The forth part is the final conclusion of the paper. For the sake of convenience of research,some Chinese subtitles will be chosen as exam.

Based on Fillmore’s frame theory, this paper examines the translator’s cognitive frame operation in the English subtitle translation of Quanzhou’s World Heritage application documentary. It analyzes and discusses how the translator maximizes translation effect between the source language and the target language, so as to enhance the readability of documentary subtitles and promote the spread of traditional Chinese culture. The findings are as follows: Firstly, in the translation process, the frame operations used by the translator include frame correspondence, intra-frame operations, frame replacement, frame perspective shift and frame transplantation. Secondly, cultural documentaries are full of culture-loaded words, for which the translator usually uses frame transplantation. Thirdly, due to the instantaneous nature of subtitles, intra-frame operations and frame replacement are applied in terms of cultural background of the target language audience. Besides, in order to enhance the audience’s reading experience, there may be some changes of narrative perspective in the English translation of cultural documentaries.
