HALF-BREED is an autobiographic novel of Maria Campbell as a Metis woman writer in Canada,which is a story full of the psychological frustration of the writer herself as well as the frustration reflected among the whole group of half breed people throughout the Canadian society at her process of growing *** the harsh conditions made by the government and the white people around forced them to survive the white society with painful struggle as well as some illegal ways to live on so that their family and future were under the threat of being *** the struggle and fight against the unfair policy by the white paved the way to form an organization to help the half breed people to protect their human *** formed a flood all over Canada amongst the groups where Maria got het soul evoked.

This paper focuses on pioneer women＇s struggle through social restriction in O Pioneers？（1989） and My Antonia （1994） authored by Willa Cather, a famous American local color female writer. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the protagonists＇ struggle through social restrictions in 0 pioneers？ and My Antonia, so as to analyze the situation pioneer women faced in American mid-west at that age. Women as cultural conservators and transmitters of civilization play integral parts in this respect. It is true that the morality system is set by the patriarchal society and restricts women＇s behavior. However, we must admit that when women stop functioning as civilization transmitters and cultural conservators, the world will go wrong seriously. In the two novels, hearty, generous women always create a nurturing and gracious atmosphere in their household. Practically, these women transmit the old civilization to the newly established homestead successfully

The Land （2001） is a powerful coming-of-age story by African-American writer Mildred D. Taylor. Through vividly depicting the mental and physical pains suffered by black people as well as the undying hope of protagonist Paul in the struggle of achieving social and economic independence by obtaining a land of his own, Mildred D. Taylor not only pungently exposes the evils of racism but also successfully builds up positive image of black character in The Land. Based on African American criticism theory and close reading of the text, the present paper aims at exploring the central themes of pain, struggle, and hope presented in the novel with the hope of interpreting the historical and realistic significance of the novel.
