The groove shape of the weld faying part was investigated to obtain an ideal pipe frictiowelded joint that had a fracture in the base metal and no inner flash of *** steel pipe had inner and outer diameters of 8.0 mm and 13.5 mm,respectively,and the weld faying surface was of a basic flat shape(butt)***,stepped and tapered groove shapes were *** groove shapes were welded with a friction speed of 27.5 s_1 and a friction load of 2.79 *** phenomena during the welding process were observed,and the tensile strength of joints was *** joints,that fabricated with flat or step groove shapes,made with a friction time at which the friction torque reached the initial peak did not have the tensile strength of the base metal nor a fracture in the base ***,the joints fabricated with a friction time that reached past the initial peak had a large flash,and they contained a fracture in the base *** contrast,when joints were made with a gently tapered groove shape with a friction time reaching the time of the initial peak,they achieved a fracture in the base metal,despite having an extremely small inner ***,the shape at the weld faying part was capable of reducing the flash exhausted from the weld interface.

An excited experiment system of 20# steel pipe was established with oil cylinder, 20# steel pipe, frequency converter, pump station and wave exciter generating unsteady flow artificially. The experimental results showed that the 20# steel pipe could vibrate with the excitation of unsteady flows, and the vibration was periodic, instead of a harmonic one. Particles on the front and rear positions of pipe vibrated synchronously, and the vibration intensity of the pipe＇s two ends was greater than in the middle. System pressure and wave exciter＇s frequency had much influence upon pipe＇s amplitude. pipe＇s vibration frequency was little affected by system pressure, and its value was close to the wave exciter＇s. Therefore, the active control of pipe＇s vibration can be realized by setting system pressure and adjusting frequency converter＇s frequency.

This study developed a sequential coupling finite element procedure to predict residual stresses of steel pipes with longitudinal wela／ circumferential weld and spiral *** results show that the residual stress in heat affected zone（HAZ）is higher than that in weld for spiral weld *** the circumferential weld pipe and spiral weld pipe,the residual stress in inner surface is higher than that in outer ***,for the spiral weld pipe,the residual stress in inner surface is smaller than that in outer *** hoop residual stress of circumferential weld pipe is higher than that of longitudinal weld pipe,while the axial residual stress of circumferential weld pipe is smaller than that of longitudinal weld *** hoop stresses for circumferential weld pipe and axial stress for longitudinal weld pipe have exceeded the yield strength of base *** the increase of helix angle,the hoop stress decreases while the axial stress *** the spiral pipe（α=30° to 50°）,both the hoop stress and axial stress are relatively *** spiral pipe（helix angle ranging from 30° to 50°） is helpful to reduce stress corrosion cracking（SCC） and it is recommended to manufacture the steel pipe.

Corrosion is one of the main causes of incidents occurred in hazardous liquid and gas transmission pipelines in the USA, resulting in a loss of over $12 billion per year. In this study, the corrosion resistance of pipeline steel coated with five types of enamel was investigated in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution with linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. steel coupons were cut from API 5L X65 pipeline steel and coated with five types of enamels using the wet process. The microstructures of all enamel samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy. Experimental results indicate that all enamel coatings increase the corrosion resistance of pipeline steel, and pure enamel PE2, mixed enamels ME1 and ME2 have higher corrosion resistances than pure enamel PE1 and mixed enamel ME3.

To establish an adequate thermodynamic model for the mechanism of formation of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) corrosion products, theoretical and experimental studies were combined in this work. The corrosion products of API X60 pipeline steel formed under different H2S corrosion conditions were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. A thermodynamic model was developed to clarify the environmental boundaries for the formation and transformation of different products. Presumably, a dividing line with a negative slope existed between mackinawite and pyrrhotite. Using experimental data presented in this study combined with previously published results, we validated the model to predict the formation of mackinawite and pyrrhotite on the basis of the laws of thermodynamics. The established relationship is expected to support the investigation of the H2S corrosion mechanism in the oil and gas industry. © 2017, University of Science and Technology Beijing and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In this study,the effect of core bar inserted into weld faying part to obtain an ideal pipe joint with non-generating inner flash via friction welding is described.A steel pipe with inner and outer diameters corresponding to 8.0 mm and 13.5 mm was used,and the weld faying surface was machined to a groove shape of a flat(butt)*** core bar of various materials was inserted in the weld faying part of the pipes,and those pipes were welded with a friction speed of 27.5 s−1 and friction pressure of 30 *** core bars did not decrease inner flash when joints were fabricated with a core bar of some metallic materials with melting points below that of steel;thus,they were melted during the welding *** joint with an alumina core bar did not decrease inner flash and was crushed by generating an inner ***,a commercially pure tungsten(CP-W)core bar was successfully achieved for decreasing the inner ***,all joints with a CP-W core bar did not exhibit the tensile strength of the base metal and a fracture in the base metal,when they were fabricated during the same time,the friction torque reached the initial *** joint exhibited a fracture in the base metal when it was fabricated with a CP-W core bar and a taper groove shape that was proposed in the previous ***,the core bars were easily removed from the joints;thus the joint with almost no inner flash was successfully *** reduce the inner flash of pipe joints,they should be fabricated with a CP-W core bar inserted into the weld faying part with a taper groove shape.

Caustic Failure of Thermal Insulated Tubing in Steam Flooding

The coupling of the pre-stressed thermal insulated tubing string broke down inside the steam flooding welts, after the tubing were used in high temperature and high pressure steam for about two years. With further check, it was found that most of the weld joints between the inner and outer tubing also cracked. The failure analysis for the accidents has been carried out by the analysis of chemical composition for the steels, microstructure observation, mechanical property tests, and the investigation of the service environment etc.. The results show that the early damage of the pre-stressed thermal insulated tubing string is mainly induced by the caustic stress corrosion, which can be strengthened by an unstable microstructure of the coupling serviced at high temperature for a long time. Moreover, the high pre-stress design on the thermal insulated pipe for the cyclic steam injection may be not suitable to the situation of steam flooding, which would result in the weld joint cracking.

The copper-based shape memory alloy pipe joint was applied in the field of oil pipelines jointing as well as installing. It has many advantages than anything. In the paper, the basic principle and connection influence factors of copper-based shape memory alloy pipe joint were described. Experimental results shows the copper-based shape memory alloy pipe joints can be used in oilfield oil pipeline connection and it can solve the inner pipe joint corrosion damage problem by welding.
