An Admission Control Scheme for End—to—End statistical QoS Provision in IP Networks

This paper presents a distributed and scalable admission control scheme to provideend-to-end statistical QoS guarantees in IP network. The basic idea of the scheme is that the ingressrouters make admission control decisions according to the network status information obtained bysending probing packets along the selected routing path. Each router passively monitors thearriving traffic and marks the probing packets with its network status. The performance of thepresented scheme is evaluated with a variety of traffic models, QoS metrics and network *** simulation results show that the proposed scheme can accurately control the admissible regionand effectively improve the utilization of network resource.

Admission control is an important strategy for Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning in Asynchro- nous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. Based on a control-theory model of resources on-Demand Allocation (DA) protocol, the paper studies the effect of the protocol on the statistical characteristics of network traffic, and proposes a combined connection admission control algorithm with the DA protocol to achieve full utiliza- tion of link resources in satellite communication systems. The proposed algorithm is based on the cross-layer-design approach. Theoretical analysis and system simulation results show that the proposed algo- rithm can admit more connections within certain admission thresholds than one that does not take into account the DA protocol. Thus, the proposed algorithm can increase admission ratio of traffic sources for satellite ATM networks and improve satellite link utilization.

Packet Transport Networks （PTN） combine the advantages of packet technology and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy （SDH） technologyl Taking the packet switch as its core, PTN has a high statistical multiplexing ability, which allows it to become a more efficient packet transfer service. Its strong Operation Administration and Maintenance （OAM）--similar to SDH and carrier-class security protection services--ensures efficient mobile backhaul business management ahd transmission quality. MPLS Transport Profile （MPLS-TP） packet transport network eliminates connectionless features, such as Penultimate Hop Popping （PHP）, labet merge and Equal＇cost multi-path （ECMP）, and is enhanced in terms of OAM, protection, and synchronization. This is ideally suited for carrying IP-based mobile backhaul services and key account services. PTN, original Multi-Service Transport Platform （MSTP）, Metro Ethernet, and IP over Wave Division multiplexing （WDM）/Optical Transport Network （OTN） of organic complexes, contribute to an ＂all IP＂ era of telecommunications services.
