Photon number-squeezed states are of significant value in fundamental quantum research and have a wide range of applications in quantum metrology.Most of their preparation mechanisms require precise control of quantum dynamics and are less tolerant to dissipation.We propose a mechanism that is not subject to these restraints.In contrast to common approaches,we exploit the self-balancing between two types of dissipation induced by positive-and negative-temperature reservoirs to generate steady states with sub-Poissonian statistical distributions of photon numbers.We also show how to implement this mechanism with cavity optomechanical systems.The quality of the prepared photon number-squeezed state is estimated by our theoretical model combined with realistic parameters for various typical optomechanical systems.

squeezed light is a critical resource in quantum sensing and information processing. Due to the inherently weak optical nonlinearity and limited interaction volume, considerable pump power is typically needed to obtain efficient interactions to generate squeezed light in bulk crystals. Integrated photonics offers an elegant way to increase the nonlinearity by confining light strictly inside the waveguide. For the construction of large-scale quantum systems performing many-photon operations, it is essential to integrate various functional modules on a chip. However, fabrication imperfections and transmission cross talk may add unwanted diffraction and coupling to other photonic elements, reducing the quality of squeezing. Here, by introducing the topological phase, we experimentally demonstrate the topologically protected nonlinear process of four-wave mixing, enabling the generation of squeezed light on a silica chip. We measure the cross-correlations at different evolution distances for various topological sites and verify the nonclassical features with high fidelity. The squeezing parameters are measured to certify the protection of cavity-free, strongly squeezed states. The demonstration of topological protection for squeezed light on a chip brings new opportunities for quantum integrated photonics,opening novel approaches for the design of advanced multi-photon circuits.

The squeezed state is important in quantum metrology and quantum information.The most effective generation tool known is the optical parametric oscillator(OPO).Currently,only the squeezed states of lower-order spatial modes can be generated by an OPO.However,the squeezed states of higher-order spatial modes are more useful for applications such as quantum metrology,quantum imaging,and quantum information.A major challenge for future applications is efficient generation.Here we use cascaded phase-only spatial light modulators to modulate the amplitude and phase of the incident fundamental mode squeezed state.This efficiently generates a series of squeezed higher-order Hermite–Gauss modes and a squeezed arbitrary complex amplitude distributed mode.The method may yield new applications in biophotonics,quantum metrology,and quantum information processing.

A type of special two-mode squeezed coherent state is constructed which is a characteristic of squeezing and displacing related. The new states take simpler and neater form than the usual two-mode squeezed coherent states, and also possess a completeness relation. It is expected that experimentalists woking on quantum optics should fabricate such a type of squeezed coherent optical field.

We investigate the squeezed back-to-back correlations(BBC) of K^+K^-, caused by the mass modification of particles in the dense medium formed in d + Au collisions at √sNN= 200 GeV and Au + Au collisions at √sNN= 62.4 GeV. Considering that some kaons may not be affected by the medium, we further study the BBC functions of K+K-when parts of all kaons have a mass-shift. Our results indicate that the BBC functions of K+K-can be observed when only ~10% of all kaons have a mass-shift in d + Au collisions at √sNN = 200 GeV and the peripheral collisions of Au + Au at √sNN= 62.4 GeV. Since the BBC function is caused by the mass-shift due to the interactions between the particle and the medium, the successful detection of the BBC function indirectly marks that the dense medium has formed in these collision systems. We suggest the experimental measurement of the BBC function of K^+K^- in d + Au collisions at √sNN = 200 GeV and peripheral collisions of Au + Au at √sNN= 62.4 GeV.

Gaussian Boson sampling(GBS) provides a highly efficient approach to make use of squeezed states from parametric down-conversion to solve a classically hard-to-solve sampling problem. The GBS protocol not only significantly enhances the photon generation probability, compared to standard Boson sampling with single photon Fock states, but also links to potential applications such as dense subgraph problems and molecular vibronic spectra. Here, we report the first experimental demonstration of GBS using squeezed-state sources with simultaneously high photon indistinguishability and collection efficiency.We implement and validate 3-, 4- and 5-photon GBS with high sampling rates of 832, 163 and 23 kHz,respectively, which is more than 4.4, 12.0, and 29.5 times faster than the previous experiments.Further, we observe a quantum speed-up on a NP-hard optimization problem when comparing with simulated thermal sampler and uniform sampler.

Using the thermal-entangled state representation and the operator-ordering method, we investigate Wigner function(WF) for the squeezed negative binomial state(SNBS) and the analytical evolution law of density operator in the amplitude decay channel.The results show that the analytical WF is related to the square of the module of single-variable Hermite polynomials, which leads to a new two-variable special function and its generating function, and the parameters s and γplay opposite roles in the WF distributions.Besides, after undergoing this channel, the initial pure SNBS evolves into a new mixed state related to two operator Hermite polynomials within normal ordering, and fully loses its nonclassicality and decays to vacuum at long decay time.

We experimentally demonstrate that HG01 (Hermit-Gauss) and HG10 squeezed states can be generated simultaneously in an optical parametric amplifier.The HG01 mode is a bright squeezed state and the HG10 mode is a vacuum squeezed state.The squeezing of the HG01 mode is -2.8dB,and the squeezing of the HG10 mode is -1.6 dB.We also demonstrate that the output field is also continuous-variable entanglement with orbital angular momentum.
