BACKGROUND Bruxism is a jaw-muscle activity characterized by the clenching or grinding of teeth. It can be divided into nocturnal bruxism and diurnal bruxism(DB). DB secondary to antidepressants is rare and refractory. Reports associated with antidepressant-induced DB are mostly anecdotal without long-term *** effect of drug intervention on antidepressant-induced DB is still *** herein report the first case of successful treatment of venlafaxine-induced DB with an occlusal *** SUMMARY This case report describes detailed 7-year follow-up of a patient with venlafaxineinduced DB treated with an occlusal splint. The patient who complained about involuntary daytime tooth grinding after taking venlafaxine for a period of 4 mo and was diagnosed with venlafaxine-induced DB. Subsequently, an occlusal splint with modified bilateral buccal-pterygoid pads was used to treat his tooth grinding and to protect the dental structures from tooth wearing. The patient reported remission of symptoms after several months of treatment. His grinding activity was gradually and stably controlled after 2 years, with an almost complete recovery from DB after 6 *** The maxillary buccal-pterygoid splint can be used as a noninvasive approach to treat venlafaxine-induced DB.

Background: Occlusal splint therapy, which is a conservative approach to treat temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and bruxism, can change the occlusal contact of dentition. However, little is known about the variation in bite force and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) sounds. The objective of this case report is to compare the effects of different splint thicknesses constructed by vacuum lamination technology on occlusal function and TMJ sounds. Clinical Presentation: This study presents a 24-year-old male with bruxism. Four splints of different thicknesses (0.6 mm, 1 mm, 2.5 mm and 3 mm) were fabricated and tested. Then, an array of occlusal data were recorded and analyzed by the T-Scan?III system and joint vibration analysis (JVA). Conclusion: The results reveal that splints of different thicknesses manufactured by the vacuum hot-lamination apparatus may cause a change in occlusal force.

Objective:To observe the clinical effect of articular cavity injection combined with bite splint therapy for the treatment of anterior disc displacement without reduction(ADDWoR).Methods:The research subjects for this study were 30 patients with ADDWoR treated in the temporomandibular joint specialist outpatient clinic from November 2018 to November 2019,with a disease duration of 1 to 6 *** treatment group was treated with an articular cavity injection of sodium hyaluronate+bite *** control group was treated with a simple articular cavity injection of sodium *** two groups were followed up once every 2 weeks to evaluate the treatment effect and observe the clinical efficacy of the two *** analysis was carried out using SPSS 24.0.t-test and general linear regression analysis were carried out to compare the data of both groups,andχ^(2)-test and binary logistic regression analysis were performed for pain index ***:There was no significant difference in terms of the efficacy of the treatment received by both *** mouth opening and joint pain of patients in both groups were significantly improved after treatment(Psplint therapy are both effective and safe methods for treating ADDWoR.

目的:研究splint在纠正CR-CO不调时对下颌骨位置变化的影响,为正畸治疗前正确的诊断和治疗提供参考。方法:随机选取门诊戴用splint治疗的患者23例,在其治疗前后拍摄头颅定位侧位片,应用Jarabak分析法测量并进行统计学分析。结果:患者戴用splint治疗后,出现下颌后缩,面下1/3变长;口内表现为前牙覆盖变大,覆牙合变浅或者开牙合,可见早接触点;前后头影测量结果比较显示N-Go-Me显著增加(P0.05)。结论:splint在纠正CR-CO不调时,同时改变了下颌骨的位置,使下颌骨发生顺时针方向旋转。因此,在正畸治疗之前,应该充分考虑下颌骨可能发生的这种变化,以便更好的确定正畸治疗方案。

Dear Editor,Burn scar contracture is a common problem in healing burn wounds of the neck. It can cause both pain and dysfunction if not treated adequately (1)The treatment of such wounds often involves a combination of surgery and splinting therapy (2)A variety of splints, including the thermoplastic static neck splint [3], the Watusi collar [4], manually fabricated splints, and pre-fabricated splints such as the Philadelphia collar have been used for the management of scar contractures. However, each type of splint has its own advantages and disadvantages, and none of these splints seem to reduce the need for skin reconstruction nor delays the time until surgical re-construction [5].

This paper introduces strategies to detect software bugs in earlier life cycle stage in order to improve test efficiency. Static analysis tool is one of the effective methods to reveal software bugs during software development. Three popular static analysis tools are introduced, two of which, PolySpace and splint, are compared with each other by analyzing a set of test cases generatedd by the authors. PolySpace can reveal 60% bugs with 100% R/W ratio (ratio of real bugs and total warnings), while splint reveal 73.3% bugs with 44% R/W ratio. And they are good at finding different categories of bugs. Two strategies are concluded to improve test efficiency, under the guideline that static analysis tools should be used in finding different categories of bugs according to their features. The first one aims at finding bugs as many as possible, while the second concentrates to reduce the average time on bug revelation. Experimental data shows the first strategy can find 100% bugs with 60% R/W ratio, the second one find 80% bugs with 66.7% R/W ratio. Experiment results prove that these two strategies can improve the test efficiency in both fault coverage and testing time.

AIM: To evaluate a new therapeutic approach that may permanently address excessive involuntary muscle activity which causes temporomandibular disorders(TMD). METHODS: A cohort of 69 TMD patients(33 men and 36 women, age range 14-71 years) was treated with Subconscious Temporomandibular Dysfunction(STe Dy) therapy. A thick awareness splint assisted patients to gradually recognize the interdependence between psychological pressure and subconscious muscle activity. The STe Dy therapy lasted for one year and involved three stages:(1) data collection including medical history, clinical examination and psychological evaluation;(2) application of the awareness splint and consultation on a monthly basis; and(3) final ***: About 10% of patients(3 men and 4 women) quit the STe Dy therapy within the first 3-6 modue to severe health problems or psychosocial reasons. Based on the absence of objective and subjective clinical symptoms as well as on radiographic findings, the temporomandibular dysfunction treatment was successful in all remaining 62 patients that completed the year-long therapy. Symptoms, including recurrent headache, morning fatigue, clicking sound or painful temporomandibular joint disorders, were eliminated in all patients within the first six months. By completion of the STe Dy therapy, all patients had learned to recognize stressful conditions and cognitively avoided displaying excessive bruxism or other subconscious activity of the stomatognathic muscles. A follow-up after at least one year indicated the permanent nature of the cognitive treatment in all patients, illustrating the fact that subconscious muscle activity due to stress plays a principal role in the great majority of TMD, at least in ***: The STe Dy therapy successfully and permanently resolved TMD problems of all patients that completed the year-long treatment.

Does Obesity without Hyperglycemia Delay Wound Healing in an Obese Mouse Model Induced by a High-Fat Diet?

It was unclear that wound healing was delayed in obesity without hyperglycemia. The purpose of this study was to compare the wound healing process between obese and non-obese mice without hyperglycemia by attaching a splint. Three-week-old male mice (C57BL/6N) were fed high-fat diets (60% of calories from fat) in the obesity group, and commercial diets in the control group for 15 weeks. Two circular (4 mm in diameter) full-thickness wounds were made on the dorsal skin. Body weights and serum leptin levels were significantly higher in the obesity group than in the control group until day 15 after wounding. Fasting blood glucose levels before wounding were lower in the obesity group than in a hyperglycemic rodent model. The macrophage infiltration into subcutaneous fat before wounding in the obesity group was negligible. The ratios of the wound area were not significantly different between the two groups. No significant differences were observed in the number of neutrophils or macrophages or new blood vessels and ratio of myofibroblasts or collagen fibers between the two groups. Our results demonstrated that cutaneous wound healing was not delayed in the obesity group without hyperglycemia and macrophage infiltration into the subcutaneous fat and with high serum leptin levels.

The continuously growing esthetic awareness for the facial appearance and the spreading of information about the possibilities of adult treatment by public media result in an increase of adult patients which seek orthodontic treatment to improve their facial esthetics. In general, these patients show such a severe skeletal deformity that it is detectable even by non-experts because of its extraoral manifestation, which is the main motivation for treatment. Because of the nature of these deformities and because of the lacking growth usable for therapy the only promising treatment for these patients is the combined orthodontic-surgical approach. Besides a stable and functional occlusion with physiologic position of the condyle, the goals of treatment are the improvement of the dental and, above all, facial esthetics since the patient judges the success of treatment mostly by the extraoral appearance. The dentofacial appearance must be defined prior to treatment to plan the individual right approach in knowledge of the different treatment possibilities for Angle Class II deformities and thus be able to reach for both sides—patient and orthodontist—satisfying result. With this article, a systematic therapy concept to treat patients with Class II deformities and skeletal deep bite with a short lower face (short face syndrome) under consideration of the soft tissue analysis is presented.

A preliminary study on the treatment of bruxism by biofeedback therapy

Objective: To evaluate the effect of wireless biofeedback therapy on bruxism. Methods: Fifteen bruxiers participated to be treated by this therapy. The abnormal movements of teeth during sleep were monitored by a maxillary splint with an electric resistance strain gauge. Meanwhile, the receiver device recorded these details and analyzed the data, including the value of the biting force, occurring time and duration. If the value of biting force or duration exceeds the threshold, a vibrating device like a watch style will alert the patient to relax the masticatory muscles and nervous system to stop the abnormal grinding or clenching. Data were recorded during 8 hours’ sleep and analyzed after the 12 weeks’ treatment and 24 weeks’ treatment. Results: The average episodes of bruxism have declined from (10.60 ± 1.23) to (6.60 ± 0.75) after 12 weeks’ treatment (p < 0.05), and the average duration of bruxism events was reduced from (13.2 ± 0.74) s to (6.50 ± 0.40) s (p < 0.05). The average episodes of bruxism have declined to (3.80 ± 0.64) after 24 weeks’ treatment, and the average duration of bruxism events was reduced to (3.37 ± 0.34) s (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The results suggest that biofeedback therapy can be effective for bruxism treatment.
