We describe a gold standard corpus of protest events that comprise various local and international English language sources from various *** corpus contains document-,sentence-,and token-level *** corpus facilitates creating machine learning models that automatically classify news articles and extract protest event-related information,constructing knowledge bases that enable comparative social and political science *** each news source,the annotation starts with random samples of news articles and continues with samples drawn using active *** batch of samples is annotated by two social and political scientists,adjudicated by an annotation supervisor,and improved by identifying annotation errors *** found that the corpus possesses the variety and quality that are necessary to develop and benchmark text classification and event extraction systems in a cross-context setting,contributing to the generalizability and robustness of automated text processing *** corpus and the reported results will establish a common foundation in automated protest event collection studies,which is currently lacking in the literature.

早在18世纪中叶，启蒙阵营内部已经出现对自然权利学说和社会契约理论的反思。从孟德斯鸠和苏格兰启蒙哲人的著作中，已经可以窥见社会科学的萌芽。不过，只有在法国大革命遭遇严重挫折之后，孔德倡导的社会科学才作为一个重组社会的努力，在“后革命时代”的危机中诞生。然而社会科学并非孔德的独创。事实上，它是孔德吸纳了保守派、自由派及圣西门的思想遗产之后，对它们进行综合与创新产生的思想成果。

社会科学研究方法创新：调查、分析与建议

目前针对我国社会科学研究方法创新的讨论中，尚未出现跨学科、多维度、全国性的实证研究。本文以问卷调查为主要手段，结合专家访谈和文献计量学方法，调查我国社会科学领域研究方法的应用及创新现状，分析影响方法创新的主要因素。研究结果表明，我国社会科学研究方法相对落后，数据获取、处理方法与研究工具等方面与国际前沿都有一定差距；创新水平较低，主要依赖引进其他学科研究方法和改进本学科已有研究方法，提出过原创性方法的研究者极少；核心人物、个人兴趣是决定方法创新的最主要因素，但学科、团队、个体三个层次在这两个因素上的表现都不能令人满意。要摆脱这样的局面，我国社会科学研究方法创新，必须充分发挥学术带头人的引领作用，全面调动研究者主观能动性；必须紧盯国际主流研究方法，自主探寻研究方法创新最前沿；必须紧跟大数据时代步伐，力争领创基于全样本的研究方法。

运动训练科学化是运动训练实践不断提高质量和效益，实现对比赛成绩更大程度预测和控制的过程，既涉及经验向科学的迈进，也涉及科学向科学应用的延伸。实践、科学和艺术是运动训练科学化的3个基本要素，运动训练科学化可分为3个阶段，第2个阶段在不断借助自然科学成果推进的同时，运动训练科学化已开启第3阶段。在第3个阶段，运动训练科学化将更大程度发挥社会科学的价值，更加注重教练员在科学应用中的作用，更加注重科学的转化与传播。我国运动训练的科学化可以从系统构建教练员培养体系、打造实践导向的科学化训练共同体、多方机构多方人员相向而行、优化体育专业人才培养体系4个方面进行推进。

By positioning the debate on the future of the Humanities in an international setting, this essay presents an historical and contemporary account of them in South Africa. [ In this country the Humanities and the social sciences are subsumed under a single （and rather imperfect ） organizational rubric ]. The argument looks at the role they played during apartheid and their influence in bringing apartheid to an end. In the post-apartheid period the Humanities have fallen on hard times with less funding and failing student numbers. In this, South Africa follows the international trend but two enquiries into the future of the Humanities have opened space for a deep conversation on their future.

In the health care professions today, research guides best clinical practice. Yet, the methodological constraints required by the two main branches of research into Chinese medicine--bio-scientific and socio-historical--rarely assist Chinese medicine students, practitioners, or clinical researchers with treatment and practice issues. A great deal of bio-scientific research assumes that it must be possible to utilise and test Chinese medicine from within a biomedical framework. However, by isolating therapeutic techniques and substances and standardising treatment protocols, bio-scientific research removes Chinese medicine＇s inbuilt flexibility and responsiveness to clinical instances and changes. While researchers in the historical and social sciences can reveal the sophisticated discourses built around Chinese medicine＇s distinctive approach to knowing the world and the body-person, they normally do not discuss the implications of their work for contemporary clinical practice. The paper advocates a synthetic approach using multidisciplinary sources within and adjacent to the field of Chinese medicine. Multidisciplinary researchers contest the simplified and biomedicalised version of Chinese medicine generally available in English speaking countries today. They can assist English speakers to approach Chinese medicine＇s traditional perspectives, demonstrate their relevance for contemporary clinical practice and help restore the traditional connectedness between Chinese medicine＇s theoretical concepts and its treatment methods.
