To establish a data literacy evaluation system for social science scholars is a part of transformation to data-intensive scientific research paradigm in social science.Based on the literature review of data literacy and survey of social science data management features,this paper analyzed the elements of data literacy of social science scholars.The data literacy of social science scholars ma inly consists of data awareness level,data discovery and access ability,data management and organization ability,data processing and analysis ability,data utilization and preservation ability,and data ethics level.Each of these primary indexes has several secondary indexes.It constructed the evaluation system of social science scholars data literacy.The weights of the primary and secondary indexes in the system were calculated by applying AHP.The data literacy evaluation system for social science scholars can provide a reference for assessing and promoting social science scholars'data literacy ability in China.

Background:The threat of a rapidly changing planet-of coupled social,environmental and climatic change-pose new conceptual and practical challenges in responding to vector-borne diseases.These include non-linear and uncertain spatial-temporal change dynamics associated with climate,animals,land,water,food,settlement,conflict,ecology and human socio-cultural,economic and political-institutional systems.To date,research efforts have been dominated by disease modeling,which has provided limited practical advice to policymakers and practitioners in developing policies and programmes on the ground.Main body:In this paper,we provide an alternative biosocial perspective grounded in social science insights,drawing upon concepts of vulnerability,resilience,participation and community-based adaptation.Our analysis was informed by a realist review(provided in the Additional file 2)focused on seven major climate-sensitive vectorborne diseases:malaria,schistosomiasis,dengue,leishmaniasis,sleeping sickness,chagas disease,and rift valley fever.Here,we situate our analysis of existing community-based interventions within the context of global change processes and the wider social science literature.We identify and discuss best practices and conceptual principles that should guide future community-based efforts to mitigate human vulnerability to vector-borne diseases.We argue that more focused attention and investments are needed in meaningful public participation,appropriate technologies,the strengthening of health systems,sustainable development,wider institutional changes and attention to the social determinants of health,including the drivers of co-infection.Conclusion:In order to respond effectively to uncertain future scenarios for vector-borne disease in a changing world,more attention needs to be given to building resilient and equitable systems in the present.

Fuzzy AHP approach for legal judgement summarization

Legal documents are generally big and complex documents because of specific vocabulary,semantics and structure.One of the major challenges in legal processing systems is to generate summary of legal judgements.Till date,in most of the legal systems,the summary of judgements is produced manually by legal experts which are then used by Lawyers,Judges and other legal professionals.The manual process of summarization is very inefficient and time-consuming.Automatic text summarization(ATS)is the process of reducing the content of a textual document,while retaining the core description of text through the use of appropriate tool.The present work proposes a novel Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchical process(FAHP)based feature weighting scheme which helps in producing an efficient and effective summary of legal judgement.Model is applied on a number of legal judgements taken from Indian IT Act.Validation of the model is done using ROUGE(Recall-Oriented Understudy for Gisting Evaluation)tool with recall,precision,and f-measure as performance measures.The generated summaries are further assessed by legal experts and are found to be more promising than the summaries generated by traditional approaches.

Quick response research conducted by social scientists in the aftermath of a disaster can reveal important findings about hazards and their impacts on communities.Research to collect perishable data,or data that will change or be lost over time,immediately following disaster has been supported for decades by two programs in the United States,amassing a collection of quick response studies and an associated research culture.That culture is currently being challenged to better address power imbalances between researchers and disaster-affected participants.Until recently,Canada has not had a quick response grant program.In order to survey the state of knowledge and draw from it in helping to shape the new program in Canada,this article systematically analyzes the body of research created by the two US programs.The results reveal a wide-ranging literature:the studies are theoretically,conceptually,topically,and methodologically quite unique to one another.This diversity might appropriately reflect the nature of disasters,but the finding that many studies are not building on previous quick response research and other in sights indicate opportunities for how a new grant program in Canada can contribute to growing a robust subdiscipline of disaster research.

OpenStreetMap(OSM)has seen an exponential increase in the last few years and large volumes of geodata have been received from volunteered individuals.The collected geodata are heterogeneous in terms of different dimensions such as spatial patterns of contributions,quality,patterns of contributing individuals,and type of contributions.Because contributors’personal information is anonymously stored by the OSM administrators,alternative methods are needed to investigate the role of contributors’characteristics on their mapping behavior.This study is intended to explore the potential socio-economic characteristics of contributors in highly contributed areas to have better insights about the latent patterns of involved individuals in a highly dynamic state of the most active country in OSM,Germany.A logistic regression model(LRM)is applied to discover the potential correlations between dependent and independent variables.The findings explain that the areas with high population density,middle level of education,high income,high rate of overnight stays,high number of foreigners,and residents aged from 18 to 69 are more likely to be involved in OSM.Furthermore,the degree of dynamism in OSM is a function of proximity to built-up areas.Finally,concluding remarks concerning the independent variables and model sensitivity are presented.

We describe a gold standard corpus of protest events that comprise various local and international English language sources from various countries.The corpus contains document-,sentence-,and token-level annotations.This corpus facilitates creating machine learning models that automatically classify news articles and extract protest event-related information,constructing knowledge bases that enable comparative social and political science studies.For each news source,the annotation starts with random samples of news articles and continues with samples drawn using active learning.Each batch of samples is annotated by two social and political scientists,adjudicated by an annotation supervisor,and improved by identifying annotation errors semi-automatically.We found that the corpus possesses the variety and quality that are necessary to develop and benchmark text classification and event extraction systems in a cross-context setting,contributing to the generalizability and robustness of automated text processing systems.This corpus and the reported results will establish a common foundation in automated protest event collection studies,which is currently lacking in the literature.

The Digital Earth(DE)movement is gaining momentum.Much of it is unstructured.This paper examines a number of recent developments including those in health sensors(Wearable Absence,Q-Sensor,and Guardian Angels)and systems frameworks(Gelernter’s Mirror Worlds,Virtual Australia,and New Zealand).Consideration is given to the implications of DE for citizens and on citizen science,including those of ethics.A suite of principles to guide the development of DE is proposed.
