The anatomical study of the major signal points of the court-type Thai traditional massage on legs and their effects on blood flow and skin temperature

OBJECTIVE： This study aims to investigate the relationship between major signal points （MaSPs） of the lower extremities used in court-type Thai traditional massage （CTTM） and the corresponding underlying anatomical structures, as well as to determine the short-term changes in blood flow and skin temperature of volunteers experiencing CTTM. METHODS： MaSPs were identified and marked on cadavers before acrylic color was injected. The underlying structures marked with acrylic colors were observed and the anatomical structures were determined. Then, pressure was applied to each MaSP in human volunteers （lateral side of leg and medial side of leg） and blood flow on right dorsalis pedis artery was measured using duplex ultrasound while skin temperature changes were monitored using an infrared themographic camera. RESULTS： Short-term changes in the blood flow parameters, volume flow and average velocity, compared to baseline （P 〈 0.05）, were observed on MaSP of the lower extremity, ML4. Changes in the peak systolic velocity of the area ML5 were also observed relative to baseline. The skin temperature of two different MaSPs on the lateral side of leg （LL4 and LL5） and four on the medial side of leg （ML2, ML3, ML4 and ML5） was significantly increased （P 〈 0.05） at 1 rain after pressure application. CONCLUSION： This study established the clear correlation between the location of MaSP, as defined in CTTM, and the underlying anatomical structures. The effect of massage can stimulate skin blood flow because results showed increased skin temperature and blood flow characteristics. While these results were statistically significant, they may not be clinically relevant, as the present study focused on the immediate physiological effect of manipulation, rather than treatment effects. Thus, this study will serve as baseline data for further clinical studies in CTTM

To improve the accuracy of skin temperature measurements in thermal comfort research,a new measurement method based on a new thermometer is proposed.A platinum film resistance（Pt1000）sensor of the thermometer is welded on a printed circuit board to eliminate the heat loss from the leads and avoid the influence of the surrounding thermal *** order to determine the suitable thickness of the board,a steady heat conduction model is *** simulation results reveal that when the thickness of the board is 0.2 mm,the influence of the surrounding air can be effectively prevented and the skin temperature does not obviously *** experimental results of verification show that the maximum measurement error of the skin temperature measured by the thermometer is 0.24 ℃,and the average measurement error of the skin temperature is 0.04 ℃.The proposed method provides an effective and reliable option for the skin temperature measurement in thermal comfort research.

Value of knee skin temperature measured by infrared thermography and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 in the diagnosis of peri-prosthetic knee infection in Chinese individuals following total knee arthroplasty

Background Total knee arthroplasty （TKA） is a successful and frequently performed procedure in orthopedic *** diagnosis of peri-prosthetic joint infection following TKA remains *** present study estimated the usefulness of knee skin temperature （measured by infrared thermography） and serum soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 （slCAM-1） in the diagnosis of post-operative knee peri-prosthetic *** Patients were divided into three groups：21 patients undergoing uncomplicated TKAs,seven with prosthesis infection,and three undergoing TKA *** serum levels of interleukin-6 （IL-6）,C-reactive protein （CRP）,erythrocyte sedimentation rate （ESR）,and slCAM-1 as well as the local knee skin temperature were measured preoperatively and on Days 1 and 7 and at 1,3,and 6 months post-operatively in Groups 1 and *** same parameters were measured in Group 2 at the time of prosthesis infection *** In Group 1,the levels of IL-6,CRP,ESR,and knee skin temperature were significantly elevated post-operatively,but returned to baseline levels within 6 *** slCAM-1 levels were not significantly *** mean differential temperature （MDT） and levels of siCAM-1,IL-6,CRP,and ESR differed significantly between Groups 1 and *** MDT had returned to normal in Group 3 by 6 months *** Elevations in IL-6,CRP,ESR,and MDT in patients undergoing TKA could be a normal response to surgical trauma,but sustained elevations may be indicative of *** knee skin temperature and slCAM-1 may be used as indicators in the diagnosis of knee prosthesis infection following TKA.

Difference between the effects of one-site and three-site abdominal hot-stone stimulation on the skin-temperature changes of the lower limbs

To determine whether any difference exists in the skin-temperature responses of the lower limbs to hot-stone application relative to one-site and three-site abdominal application. METHODS： Twenty-five female students participated in experimental sessions after a random allocation： 14 participants received a hot-stone application on the umbilicus, superior-umbilicus, and inferior-umbilicus regions （hereafter referred to as the three-site stimulation group）; and 11 participants received the hot-stone application on the umbilicus region only （hereafter referred to as the one-site stimulation group）. Heated stones were applied for 9 min to participants in both groups. Four arbitrary frames （the lower leg, ankle, proximal foot, and distal foot regions） were created in order to observe and analyze the skin temperature of a lower limb using a thermograph. Observation periods were as follows： before hot-stone stimulation, immediately after stimulation, and 5, 10, 15, and 20 min after stimulation. RESULTS： There was a significant offset interaction of distal foot skin temperature between the groups. The left-side distal foot skin temperature increased at 15 and 20 min following the three-site abdominal hot-stone stimulation. The right-side distal foot skin temperature increased immediately and at 5, 10, 15, and 20 min following the three-site abdominal hot-stone stimulation. No significant change in distal foot skin temperature was observed following the one-site stimulation. CONCLUSION： Lower-limb skin temperature was altered following hot-stone stimulation applied to the abdomen, and the one-site stimulation and three-site stimulation yielded different distal foot skin-temperature reactions.

Preliminary observation on effect of cupping on the skin surface temperature of patients with back pain

Objective To preliminarily observe the effects of cupping on localized skin temperature of patients with back *** A total of 43 patients with back pain were included in this *** were treated with medium-sized cups with a volume of 260 mL The randomly selected Xinshu（心俞 BL 15）on one side（37 cases） was given cupping treatment while that on the other side as the *** Shenshu（肾俞 BL 23）（6 cases） was treated in the same *** thermal infrared imager was used to record the changes in localized skin temperature before and after cupping（for 10 minutes）,and then comparison was made with that of the control *** After cupping,the localized skin temperature fell and then *** the cup was removed after retaining for 10 minutes,the localized skin temperature was（0.4±0.9） ℃（P=0.004） lower than that before cupping;10 minutes after cupping off,the localized skin temperature was（0.4±1.1） ℃（P=0.016） higher than that before cupping while（0.8±0.9） ℃ higher than that when cupping *** skin surface temperature on the control side declined *** After cupping treatment,the localized skin temperature fell and then rose while that of the control side declined *** might be related to therapeutic effects.

The indoor thermal history of residents in the hot summer and cold winter climate zone in China have undergone a significant change in recent years,which also changes their seasonal thermal adaptations and this has formed feed-back effects to the increasing usage of air conditioning units in this *** study the seasonal variations of thermal adaptation,the thermal comfort experiments were conducted on two groups of *** groups included 20 participants who had indoor history mainly with natural ventilation(NV group)and air-conditioning(AC group),*** results demonstrated that the thermal sensation vote(TSV)in warm environments did not differ between AC and NV subjects in ***,the TSV of AC subjects were much lower than that of NV subjects in the same standard effective temperature and skin temperature in a cold environment in ***,the participants who spent most of their time in AC space in winter showed a low level of thermal adaptation with a narrower acceptable skin temperature range of 32.6-33.5℃.Thus,this study presents the basic information regarding the seasonal effects on human thermal adaptation due to different long-term indoor thermal histories.

Experimental observation of effects of acupoints,cone numbers and durations of moxibustion with different moxibustion methods on skin surface and inside temperature

Introduction:Desmoid-type fibromatosis(DF)is a fibrous tumor characterized by low-grade malignant and easy invasive growth and high ***-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU)therapy has been identified as a novel non-invasive approach for DF treatment;however,the ultrasonic energy generated by HIFU can cause skin heat ***:A 31-year-old female patient with signs and symptoms of DF received treatment in our *** patient had undergone HIFU treatment six times from April 27,2018,to August 21,*** HIFU therapy for the third time,she had a third-degree skin burn showing as orange peel-like change and spent three months to promote the recovery of the skin *** intermittent ice-cooling strategy was used to avoid skin damage during the fourth HIFU *** patient did not have any apparent skin injury during the last three HIFU therapy and acquired satisfactory anti-tumor therapeutic ***:There are differences in the thermal selectivity of tumor tissues,which leads to different critical thermal injury temperature values that the tissue can ***-cooling can lower skin tissue temperature and reduce the thermal damage caused by HIFU treatment.

Individual thermal comfort models based on physiological parameters could improve the efficiency of the personal thermal comfort control ***,the effect of thermal history has not been fully addressed in these *** this study,climate chamber experiments were conducted in winter using 32 subjects who have different indoor and outdoor thermal *** kinds of thermal conditions were investigated:the temperature dropping(24-16℃)and severe cold(12℃)conditions.A simplified method using historical air temperature to quantify the thermal history was proposed and used to predict thermal comfort and thermal demand from physical or physiological *** show the accuracies of individual thermal sensation prediction was low to about 30%by using the PMV index in cold environments of this *** on the sensitivity and reliability of physiological responses,five local skin temperatures(at hand,calf,head,arm and thigh)and the heart rate are optimal input parameters for the individual thermal comfort *** the proposed historical air temperature as an additional input,the general accuracies using classification tree model C5.0 were increased up by 15.5%for thermal comfort prediction and up by 29.8%for thermal demand ***,when predicting thermal demands in winter,the factor of thermal history should be considered.
