Effect cf Nano-ZnO or Nano-Y_2O_3 on sintering property of Fused Quartz Ceramics

Fused quartz ceramic was prepared using high purity fused quartz powder as starting material,separately introducing 1%,2% and 3% （in mass,the same hereinafter） nano-ZnO or nano-Y203 as additive,molding at 50 MPa,firing in reduction atmosphere at 1 300,1 350 and 1 400 ℃ for 1 h,respectively.Apparent porosity and cold modulus of rupture were tested and fracture morphology was analyzed by SEM.The results show that adding nano-ZnO or nano-Y2O3 obviously improves sintering of fused quartz; adding nano-ZnO enhances modulus of rupture and decreases apparent porosity; the optimum addition of nano-Y2O3 as sintering aid of fused quartz is 2%.

Development of Test Method for Measuring sintering Temperature of Mould Fluxes

Excessive sintering of mould fluxes can readily cause defects and sticker breakouts in continuously cast strands.Studying the sintering property is important to minimize problems related to sintering arising from the use of mould fluxes in continuous casting.An effective method of measuring the apparent sintering temperature has been developed in this study.The method is based on monitoring the formation of cavities caused by melting of samples.For monitoring,the differential pressure of an inert gas flow was measured through a set volume of sample（mould flux A）held in a furnace tube.The apparent sintering temperature was defined in this test to determine sintering process.The sintering properties of fluxes with various contents of carbon black were examined along with identification of mineralogical phases and the nature of the sinter for samples of mould flux A held for one hour at different temperatures.The experimental results indicated that the apparent sintering temperature（AST）was a useful parameter to assess the threat of problems related to sinter.

Rheological and sintering Properties of Two Kinds of Corundum-spinel Micropowders

For the proper use of micropowders in castables,slurries and fired samples were prepared with two kinds of corundumspinel micropowders(D and G).The effects of the solid content and disperser WSM-R1 on the rheological properties of the slurries were studied.The sintering properties and the slag corrosion resistance of the fired samples were also researched.The results show that:the slurries all show pseudoplastic rheological characteristics.With the same solid content,the slurry with micropowder G has higher initial viscosity than that with micropowder D.Disperser WSM-R1 significantly reduces the initial viscosity of the two slurries and plays a more obvious dispersing effect on the slurry with micropowder G.The fired sample with micropowder G has higher bulk density,lower apparent porosity and better corrosion resistance than that with micropowder D.

Influence of Nano-Al;O;on Properties of Magnesia Chrome Refractories

Magnesia chrome bricks were prepared with fused MgO-Cr2O3 synthesized material,fused magnesite and chrome ore as main starting materials. Nano-Al2O3 was added into refractories ( 2% ,4% and 6% in mass) substituting for Al2O3 micropowder. After mixing and shaping,the bricks were fired at 1 550 ℃ ,1 600 ℃ , 1 650 ℃ and 1 750 ℃ ,respectively. The microstruc-ture,sintering property,mechanical properties,thermal shock resistance and slag resistance of the specimens with the addition of nano-Al2O3 were investigated. The re-sults indicate that the performance of brick with 4 mass% of nano-Al2O3 is greatly improved after firing at 1 650 ℃ .
