The phase summation effect in sum-frequency mixing process is utilized to avoid a nonlinearity obstacle in the power scaling of single-frequency visible or ultraviolet *** single-frequency fundamental lasers are spectrally broadened by phase modulation to suppress stimulated Brillouin scattering in fiber amplifier and achieve higher *** sum-frequency mixing in a nonlinear optical crystal,the upconverted laser returns to single frequency due to phase summation,when the phase modulations on two fundamental lasers have a similar amplitude but opposite *** method was experimentally proved in a Raman fiber amplifier-based laser system,which generated a power-scalable sideband-free single-frequency 590 nm *** proposal manifests the importance of phase operation in wave-mixing processes for precision laser technology.

The study of single-frequency lasers is always an attractive subject because of their broad applications such as in optical communication,biochemical sensing and *** techniques have been used to achieve single-frequency laser as follows:short cavity length method,distributed-feedback(DFB) grating,photonic-crystal-defect microcavities and coupled-cavity *** this letter,we demonstrate a single-frequency coupled concentric ring resonator(CCRR) laser using the coupled-cavity structure because mircoring resonators have small mode volumes and high quality factors,leading to ultralow threshold and high *** fabricate a CCRR laser,a segment of commercial fiber with a diameter D=125 μm is coated with photo-polymerizable organic-inorganic hybrid materials doped with 0.5 wt.%Rhodamine B(thickness di =3.5 urn,refractive index n = 1.52).After being exposed to UV light to consolidate,polycarbonate film(thickness d= 45 nm,refractive index n = 1.59) is coated and consolidated in the same *** the inside diameter of the CCRR is expressed as D(=D+2d) and outside diameter is D(=D+2d+2d).In our experiment the CCRR is flood pumped by a 30 ps 532 nm mode-locked laser with a repetition rate of 10 *** lasing emission is collected through free space and sent to a spectrometer(spectral resolution = 0.03 nm).The concentric ring resonator introduces interesting phenomena in the WGM because of the coupling effect between different *** internal ring will lase first at λ that satisfies Mλ=πnD,where M is an *** of the laser light is coupled to the external ring due to the partial reflection at the interface of the double rings,which will be dissipated unless λ is also under resonance for the external ring satisfying Mλ = π*** effect is called the Vernier *** has been proposed for expanding the FSR of the interference filter and has been used in external cavity *** the internal ring resonator works as an oscillator for w

A 330-W single-frequency retrievable multi-tone monolithic fiber amplifier

A single-frequency retrievable phase modulated multi-tone fiber amplifier is presented in theory and demonstrated in experiment. A multi-tone seed laser generated by a sine wave phase modulated single-frequency laser is employed for stimulated Brillouin scattering suppression in an all-fiber amplifier. A demodulation signal which is π phase shifted with respect to the modulation signal is used to retrieve the single-frequency laser from the multi-tone laser. In experiment, we first optimize the all-fiber master-oscillator power-amplifier. With this amplifier, we demonstrate a single-frequency retrievable multi-tone laser with 330-W output when driven by the multi-tone seed, while the ultimate output power is only 130 W when driven by the single-frequency laser. Then, we carry out an experiment for retrieving the single-frequency laser from the amplified multi-tone laser. Results indicate that the single-frequency laser can be retrieved with a sideband suppression of more than 20 dB. Retrieving an even higher power single-frequency laser is possible if a high power demodulator is available.

Linewidth narrowing in free-space-running diamond Brillouin lasers

This study analyzes the linewidth narrowing characteristics of free-space-running Brillouin lasers and investigates the approaches to achieve linewidth compression and power enhancement *** results show that the Stokes linewidth behavior in a free-space-running Brillouin laser cavity is determined by the phase diffusion of the pump and the technical noise of the ***,a Stokes light output with a power of 22.5 W and a linewidth of 3.2 kHz was obtained at a coupling mirror reflectivity of 96%,which is nearly 2.5 times compressed compared with the linewidth of the pump(7.36 kHz).In addition,the theorical analysis shows that at a pump power of 60Wand a coupling mirror reflectivity of 96%,a Stokes output with a linewidth of 1.6 kHz and up to 80%optical conversion efficiency can be achieved by reducing the insertion loss of the *** study provides a promising technical route to achieve high-power ultra-narrow linewidth special wavelength laser radiations.
