AIM:To establish the short term outcomes of heart failure(HF)patients in the community who have concurrent chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).METHODS:We evaluated 783 patients(27.2%)with left ventricular systolic dysfunction under the care of a regional nurse-led community HF team between June 2007 and June 2010 through a database ***:One hundred and one patients(12.9%)also had a diagnosis of COPD;94% of patients were treated with loop diuretics,83% with angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors,74% with β-blockers;10.6% with bronchodilators;and 42% with aldosterone *** mean age of the patients was 77.9 ± 5.7 years;43% were female and mean New York Heart Association class was 2.3 ± *** mean follow-up was 28.2 ± 2.9 mo.β-blocker utilization was markedly lower in patients receiving bronchodilators compared with those not taking bronchodilators(overall 21.7% vs 81%,P short-term mortality in ambulatory HF patients.

This paper presents an artificial neural network, ANN, based approach for estimating short-term wholesale electricity prices using past price and demand data. The objective is to utilize the piecewise continuous na-ture of electricity prices on the time domain by clustering the input data into time ranges where the variation trends are maintained. Due to the imprecise nature of cluster boundaries a fuzzy inference technique is em-ployed to handle data that lies at the intersections. As a necessary step in forecasting prices the anticipated electricity demand at the target time is estimated first using a separate ANN. The Australian New-South Wales electricity market data was used to test the system. The developed system shows considerable im-provement in performance compared with approaches that regard price data as a single continuous time se-ries, achieving MAPE of less than 2% for hours with steady prices and 8% for the clusters covering time pe-riods with price spikes.

AIM:To investigate the short-term benefits of laparoscopic radical gastrectomy(LARG)and open radical gastrectomy(ORG)in patients with gastric ***:A total of 400 patients with gastric cancer aged≤65 years who were treated at General Hospital of Lanzhou Military Region were *** these,200 patients underwent LARG between October2008 and August 2012(LARG group);and 200 patients underwent ORG between March 2000 and September2008(ORG group).The short-term therapeutic benefits between the two groups were ***:The LARG procedure offered significantly better benefits to the patients compared to the ORG procedure,including less intraoperative blood loss(103.1±19.5 mL vs 163.0±32.9 mL,Pshorter postoperative hospital stay(6.8±1.2 d vs 9.5±1.6 d,Pshorter time to mobilization(1.0±0.3 vs 3.3±0.4 d,Pshorter time to bowel opening(3.3±0.7 d vs 4.5±0.7 d,Pshorter time to normal diet(3.0±0.4 vs d 3.8±0.5 d,Pshort-term efficacy.

In this paper, the process of medium- and short-term prediction (submitted in special cards) of the Artux earthquake (MS=6.9) and the Usurian earthquake (MS=5.8) in Xinjiang area, is introduced. The imminent seismic risk regions are judged based on long- and medium-term seismic risk regions and annual seismic risk regions determined by national seismologic analysis, combined with large seismic situation analysis. We trace and analyze the seismic situation in large areas, and judge principal risk regions or belts of seismic activity in a year, by integrating the large area’s seismicity with geodetic deformation evolutional characteristics. As much as possible using information, we study synthetically observational information for long-medium- and short-term (time domain) and large-medium -small dimensions (space domain), and approach the forecast region of forthcoming earthquakes from the large to small magnitude. A better effect has been obtained. Some questions about earthquake prediction are discussed.

Verbal short-term memory (vSTM) has been shown to be associated with language development in typical and atypical populations. In this study, we investigated cognitive and language skills in 33 school-aged children with ASD (6 - 12 years old) with both typical and low levels of intelligence (18 with typical non-verbal IQ [>80 in Raven] and 15 with low non-verbal IQ [p p terms of previous results reported in ASD literature as well as in terms of clinical implications and intervention in ASD individuals.

In recent years, there has been introduction of alternative energy sources such as wind energy. However, wind speed is not constant and wind power output is proportional to the cube of the wind speed. In order to control the power output for wind power generators as accurately as possible, a method of wind speed estimation is required. In this paper, a technique considers that wind speed in the order of 1 - 30 seconds is investigated in confirming the validity of the Auto Regressive model (AR), Kalman Filter (KF) and Neural Network (NN) to forecast wind speed. This paper compares the simulation results of the forecast wind speed for the power output forecast of wind power generator by using AR, KF and NN.

short-term load forecasting is a basis of power system dispatching and operation. In order to improve the short term power load precision, a novel approach for short-term load forecasting is presented based on local mean decomposition (LMD) and the radial basis function neural network method (RBFNN). Firstly, the decomposition of LMD method based on characteristics of load data then the decomposed data are respectively predicted by using the RBF network model and predicted by using the BBO-RBF network model. The simulation results show that the RBF network model optimized by using BBO algorithm is optimized in error performance index, and the prediction accuracy is higher and more effective.
